I was an MT for about ten years before leaving due to pay cuts and off shoring. I watched my pay sink, begging for work, and became physically sick being an MT. After two years out, I miss being home and working. I am not asking for good companies but merely asking if it is possible to earn a living and be suppied adequate work as an MT....thank you

There may be a few positions out there that still pay well but they are few and far between. If you are the main breadwinner for your family unit, then MT is probably not a viable option. In the years you have been gone, more and more hospitals have switched to point and click documentation services so the pie is shrinking. Good luck in your future endeavors, whatever they may be.

I do just fine with Mmodal, but I own my condo and car free and clear, have only myself and my cat to support, and can retire any time now.

Definitely not a gig for anyone with any major responsibilities such as rent or mortgage and/or children.

I'm not ready to retire anytime soon but I have just myself and my Pomeranian to support. No rent/mortgage, no car payment, no debt, kids are grown. If I had any of the above, I would NOT be able to do it. I only recommend this "career" as a little extra money (though there are many better ways to earn a little extra). It's best suited for those that don't have long before retirement, have NO debt, no kids, no dependents, and for whatever reason can't work outside the home. For all others, I cannot recommend this job.

We all loved our jobs, but in the 2 years out it has somewhat gotten worse. It is not a career...career jobs in the US are for the rich and famous, both adjectives are surely not MTs. Nuance has taken over. Expect the worst and then you will not be disappointed. Try them...they rule the industry now. Most hospitals and services are merging with them. Be prepared again for no work other than the difficult pool, and in the 2 years you were out you will have to pick up on all the medications you are not familiar with....no pay for blanks and time spent off the keyboard. No benefits either, so don't get sick. Forget 401k, no match there. Job maybe a step above being a Mom.

Like the 2 above, I can get by with what I make because my house and car are paid for. You'd probably make more money working as a school janitor - seriously. (and have better benefits, too)

ok, I have been offered a secretarial job but it is with a new company so I am iffy on whether the comany will make it. My question to everyone here if it doesn't make it I would probably go back to MT. How long do you guys think I could be away and still be able to find a job? I have posted on here many times about putting in requests to have doctors removed from ASR and have been told it doesn't do any good. Apparently some people are listening. I was told that they are flooded with requests now and it is taking a little longer to get to my requests reviewed. I have also noticed that some of the doctors I used to do in ASR are no longer in ASR. Thanks to all who are sending requests and keep them going. Some don't get removed, ...

Morning all. Knew it was coming, just didn't know when. CTL gone Monday and this a.m., a totally new CCM. Haven't been told anything by anyone at MQ about any of this. Just happened. It's OK. I was looking over already transcribed reports by others to check on a medication and came across a mistake that really makes us look foolish and is something, IMHO, that any transcriptionist would know and this doctor speaks good English. apparently I was only employed by Nuance thru last December. Starting in January I was employed by Transcend. This is as per the state unemployment benefits office. They were really interested that my check stubs said Transcend/DBA as Nuance out of Mass., and the W2s only had Transcend out of Melbourne, Florida. Yesterday (Sun) was a nightmare. I was struggling to get jobs all day long (see posts below). There were very few last night even, when there are normally an abundance of jobs.
