I wonder how many of us transcribers are getting trained in other professions or cross training. I am going to start an accounting class on line this month.

I am currently enrolled in online classes with University of Phoenix for my Bachelors in Elementary Education. I have got to feel like I am accomplishing something somewhere and it is definitely not at work right now. Very discouraged with MQ right now.

Good luck on your classes. I felt better about going to school because I felt more in control and less of a victim.
Almost done with school. - Saw MQ coming to an end.

Been with this company forever. I was seeing the writing on the wall. I know how this company works and know they are treating us horribly and makes me sick to my stomach.
Decided to go back to school and took a career course at college AGAIN and found out about my personality and how it would fit into another career with my background skills. I have 1 more semester left of school. After this grandfathered in employee approach and how we are making the same pay as a newbie, this was it. I KNOW NOW I MADE THE RIGHT DECISION TO GO BACK TO SCHOOL and it feels good to know I am pressing on and doing the right thing and it feels great because I am not letting MQ win and take my soul. This was the last straw for me with this company. The company does not care about their employees. By having this grandfathered in approach and having all MT's be in the same pay tier level, the company is hoping to keep the grandfathered employees and pay them newbie pay and if it does not work and the grandfathered employees quit, then the company hopes to hire more newbies in place of a grandfathered employee. The company simply just does not care about you. The funny thing is, we are losing an account because quite frankly, there are too many blanks in the reports and the work is horrible, but then, that is what MQ gets for their bright ideas and treating us old time slave works like idiots. Good luck to all!!!

Starting on-line classes in a couple of weeks, pre-reqs for PA school. Time to be proactive.
That is great! I am enrolled this summer fulltime. - Being an MT is great for school.

I do not take on-line classes. I go to college and take the classes. One thing is for sure, it is great working as an MT to finish schooling.
Don't they still have to pay minimum wage? They can take away that $0.03 per line if we over submit to QA, but don't they still have to pay minimum wage? ...
I was at our county fair this afternoon (town of 2200) and I know someone who works in the on-line tech school office and she said that the MT classes are going strong and students are graduating and getting jobs, but apparently they are in-house. I am going to get the teacher's name and number and call her and see where they are going and how much they are making as this does not make sense at all. The place the classes come out of is about 80,000 people and I know that all the ...
I am getting back into typing for ENT and am blaking on how to transcribe "Friedman" classes - is it using roman numerals or arabic? Friedman class III tonsils, class I palate? Can anyone shed some light on this? ...
I want to take coding classes, but the school that everybody says is the best is an online course. I am an MT, working full time and then some. The last thing I want to do is sit in front of the computer any more than I already do. Why can't these classes be offered in a regular class setting? I've never liked the idea of online school as long as I'm working on line. Just too much sitting and staring at the screen. I don't think I'm al ...
Is it just me or are you fed up with this company's requirements to attend online classes to "YOU TOO CAN BE 99% PERFECT"? I can't get out of this garbage fast enough. I attended on online class today that I felt I was in romper room. F- this! How do any of you continue to put with this company's mandates? ...
I'm new to this board so bear with me. Having been a MT forever it seems, I'm thinking of making a switch to coding. At one point I was even hired as an entry level coder, learning on the job, but when i position came open in transcription took that as it paid better. In hindsight wish I had stuck with the coding as then could have gone either or even both ways. My problem would be having to actually "go" to a school in person , but i would want something reputable, not som ...
We are using the book "Basic ICD-9-CM Coding." I would like to know what other books other schools are using for Coding I. I do not think this book is the best for me! Can anyone suggest any others? ...
Trying to decide which online course for medical coding to take. I am hearing Andrews college talked about quite a bit and have researched them but will not be covered by my FSSA grant. anyone have any input on online coding courses that would be covered by my FSSA grant? Unfortunately finances are a big determining factor. ...
I am very interested in getting into coding/billing field. I am retired medical transcriptionist. I am looking for advise on schools, what to look for in a school and requirements. I would really like to take classes online. ...
Has anyone ever taken classes through Ritecode or utilized any of their training modules? I did a search here and can find nothing on them. They were also known as Restuccio Healthcare Group.
Just curious, as it looks like you can take modules individually, paying as you go, rather than paying for an entire course at once.
Thanks! ...
I have looked at tons of schools and read tons of info. I am down to AAPC or Career step. Which one is better? And have you taken either at career step or AAPC ...
I was going to enroll at Career step to begin coding. Then I hear about ICD10. Should I still go on and start coding with ICD9 then I will only have to take ICD10? ...
After you got out of MT classes and your subscriptions to your electronic resources expired, did you renew your subscription, use other resources instead, or do without? ...
If you've been an MT for 20 years, will they let you skip or test out of some of the classes that pertain to things we already know, or do you have to take them all? ...
would ty to keep the workers they have at least a little happier. One would think they've already lost enough experienced MTs! And with ASR/VR continually getting worse - just what kind of reports will there be when we're all gone. ...
I work full-time as an MT and take coding classes through a distance learning progam, I'm about half way through and have just started to learn coding; first inpatient, then outpatient. My MT job is good now, on-site with plenty of work and good pay, but we are moving to EPIC and VR and job cuts are imminent within the next year or so. I am thinking ahead to coding jobs, though, and recently applied for a medical records clericial position where a small amount of coding would be involv ...
Does anyone remember when, and why, an MT line became a 65-character line instead of a gross line? And what company was responsible for this, if any? ...
What the heck is going on here? We're being bought out and paid less than the people cleaning the toilets at the "corportate" offices of the big-three companies. We're scraping by to make one-third of what we used to make. Why? Do you actually believe these companies are charging the hospitals less? We're the only ones getting paid less, and less, and less. The hospitals are getting crappy reports, something they're told can't be helped; there's no other alternat ...
I checked my pay stubs and, granted, I still was getting production bonus 5-6 months ago, but my pay has decreased so much, like $400-500. Sometimes I wonder what all those "delays" with "uploading the lines" are.
Honestly, this company has made me literally into a minimum wage worker. Thanks a lot, Nuance, you will soon get your wish and I will have to subsidize my income with food stamps at this rate. I guess that is your objective, more profits for you, spread the poverty so our taxes are ma ...
to see what Medquist was looking like. Looks just about like Spheris to me, possibly a little worse.
Can anyone say what they are paying per line ASR and regular transcription for a mid-level account? Clinic account?
Not sure it is worth the bother to stick around for this change. ...
I have 2 job offers from 2 different companies, but both of these companies are fairly large and have multiple posts with complaints that there is just not enough work for everyone. Would it be possible to take both offers, on the chance that if one doesn't have work the other will? I might be kinda screwed if they both have a lot of work, but it might be worth it to see how both will work out without closing any doors. Has anyone done this before? Is it possible to run 2 companies differen ...
If you get NJA on a very regular basis, reply with what state you are in. Apparently, some states require pay for downtime, CA I believe being one of them. I'm not sure of the other states. Obviously, work can be routed to or away from us at will, and I have a feeling they are choosing MTs from the states that mandate downtime pay over states that don't. ...
After having been an MT for over half of my life and constantly reading these forums and realizing the shortcomings we are all facing in this industry, I'm taking the plunge.
Yesterday my husband and I bought 2 domain names, ordered 500 business cards, my husband is researching MT salaries nationwide, and we're going to start our own MTSO. An MTSO run by HUMAN BEINGS for HUMAN BEINGS. A small one, we're looking at probably 20 or less ICs to ensure ample work for every ...
