Okay I now know they are trying to fast kill me. - veryeryoldMT

Posted: Apr 22, 2010

So much for the slow death, we have now been given an account because of loss of work in my account I have had for 20 years.  Given an account that is total ESL residents and PAs.  No following style of dictation.  Absolutely NOT to be found or understood who they are, much less dictating on patients not even entered correctly by their MRN.   I have not had to send anything to QA but now it is to this.  They want me to fail.  So, guess what I will continue to work until they fire me....   Bottom line.  I have been too good a MT for this.  I have even taken lowest pay, regardless of the fact of the years being with this company.   I refuse to die quietly.

Here is a little encouragement...I was told that my secondary account was one of the hardest accounts. Well, I was not worried at the time, because I typed almost 98% of the time my primary account. Well, when they made the big changes, I hardly ever got my primary account, and I was stuck with this very hard account, mostly ESL dictators. I was so discouraged, because my line count went from over 1600 lines a day to about 135 lines per hour. I did a lot of cryng, praying, more crying, more praying and more praying. I was given the warning that I had to get my line count up to 150 before during this pay period. It has taken me many months to finally get my line count up to over 150 lines an hour, but I have been doing it!!! No, it is not as good as it was before on my primary, but I am happy to be normal again. DO NOT GIVE UP. After a while, you will see that you are understanding more and more of these physicians. I am still praying and giving thanks where it is due. Tell yourself "I will not be defeated," and mean it. I wish you the best. Keep on plugging. You CAN do it.

When I first started I did 1600 lines a day regularly; a couple of times over 2000. Now I just pound and pound and listen and re-listen and am thrilled to death if I even make my mimimum 1200 a day (including ASR so I make about half what I used to). I know I am not lazy, and I feel certain my skills are as good as ever. It just can't be us.

Sure, you/we "CAN do it"... but why should we - have to ? This is not the

[ In Reply To ..]
work we signed on to do. If we are getting all ESL, that means the American dictation is going elsewhere don't you think ? WHY should we become martyrs, stiff upper lip, prove we can do it, etc. ? If we are miserable and the work is not what we signed on to do -- then why not just go elsewhere -- there is good normal American MD dictation out there because lots of facilities refusing to send to India. Some facilities bringing part or all of their work back from India due to poor quality. There are other smaller MTSOs that have lots of decent work and pay decently and are stress-free and don't badger you about your line count... just encourage you to do your best. Ok, I will cease and desist. But I don't see where the honor and glory are in sticking with a hard account and crying and praying just to prove o"you can do it" ! You should not have to do it !

Thanks, Nature... - up to here

Thanks for the encouragement, Nature.  It's nice to see someone trying to make the best of things instead of just belly-aching all the time on here.  We know, we know - it's rough for everyone right now....Sometimes you just get sick of all the complaining!

And sometimes you just get tired of MQ coming up - anon

OMG you must be on my account! - anon

I swear I get up every morning full of hope, and then I type for 8 straight hours as hard as I can on this crap, without even eating some days, much less answering the phone or the door, and most days I am scraping to meet my minimum requirements. I used to be the fastest, most accurate typist in my old in-house job. Why did I ever quit -- I kick myself daily.

Consider yourself lucky - or maybe unlucky

[ In Reply To ..]
Same thing happened to me 5 years ago when I worked for MQ. You are lucky because it didn't happen sooner. Their short-notice changes in the bonus structure devastated me financially.

I don't care about ESL, residents, etc. Just give me one familiar account.

This will be the slow death if you stay. I chose the slow death, but also took another job which led to a much better opportunity.

BTW, I was at over 9 cpl, so if you're making a decent cpl, I'd say... listen for footsteps. BUT, at the same time, if this new account is your ONLY account, you may want to sweat it out.

I currently have an account that is much like the one you describe, but I know it back and forth. The learning curve is hard at first, but as long as they don't keep switching things up, it might work.

BUT if they do start switching things up? RED FLAG>

You are right - OMG

Week by week I am getting a little better at my "regular" 13 facilities, although still not typing anywhere like I know I am still capable. I don't think MQ wants us productive, although for the life of me I can't wrap my head around why.

Because if they manage to keep everyone at - minimum wage then we are

[ In Reply To ..]
completely at their mercy to be let go for poor performance due to not meeting production standards (if they can't get us on the audits, then they can get us this way). That way if we are let go, it is our own doing and no unemployment costs to worry about on their part. THis way they can let people go as they send more and more to ILPs and it does not cost them a thing.
I understand that in theory, but still makes no - anonymous

sense financially. More of us working slower and dumber does not make sense. Even though the ILPs cost less, by the time you factor in the 3 QA's it takes to get a decent report to the chart, how is that cheaper, not to mention timely?

This New Software Is Going To KILL Whatever Is Left
Dec 02, 2011

We're going to be "training" on this new software at a time we are all each fighting, kicking, clawing and biting to make ends meet with this company.  They will stop at *nothing* to force us all into the food stamp and welfare line.  Just watch - I'll bet my next minimum-wage paycheck they are going to tell us how much more productive we will be and how much more money we will earn with the new software - same speech recycled from the VR switch.  ...

Now I'm Not Fast Enough
Jan 29, 2014

I don't know what these companies expect.  I think they all think we are robots that can be programmed.  My quality is excellent but I'm not fast enough doing VR.  I have NEVER been able to do VR as fast as I can type, but they seem to think that with VR you should be able to do TWICE as much as straight typing-- not!  I wish they WOULD just get robots to do the work-- then they wouldn't have to pay ANYTHING-- just the initial cost of the robots. With what they ...

Fast Chart And Fees
Feb 18, 2011

I applied to Fast Chart, tested and then was offered a position.  So, I read their contract and got to the fees section.  I knew they charged a 7.50 fee for not meeting your line requirement, but then there was going to be another fee after you had been there for 90 days.  This fee is calculated using some kind of formula 40.00 - (A/B)*40....A is number of lines you actually transcribed and B is the Line requirement and then there is another formula to calculate edited lines.  ...

TTS Pay. Does Line Count Add Up Fast?

VR Is NOT Twice As Fast As Straight Typing!
Nov 28, 2012

I used to love my job, being an at-home medical transcriptionist. I used to make around $20-25 an hour straight typing and thought being an at-home medical transcriptionist was the best job ever! The flexibility of working from home and flexing my hours was great! I could get the kids off to school, work for a couple of hours, go shopping, work for a couple of hours, just so I made production requirements and everything was great! Unfortunately, things changed and they started making us ...
