Hey! I've just recently moved and quit my transcription job working in a hospital. I'm actually looking to work for an online company but am really leary about scams. I wanted to apply with Medquist since I've seen people talking about it, but one of the first things they want is my ssn. That just seemed odd to me. Any opinions on this? Am I just being too paranoid?

I worked for MedQuist from mid 2003 to mid 2006, so about 3 years. It was great in the beginning as I was paid by line. After about 1-1/2 to 2 years, a lot of changes were made including pay. They started paying per page and then soon after per report. Would have been okay if they paid good per report, but they were so low, it was a joke especially considering some reports were a few to several pages long. Being put on new accounts was an issue too because they claimed editing could not keep up with all the new work coming in while MTs were training so they wouldn't let us work for a couple of days at a time while editing tried to catch up. Maybe things are better now, but I would not recommend MedQuist. They are one of the biggest transcription companies but not one of the best in my opinion. Good luck with whatever you decide.

It's been so long since I've applied for a job, working for MQ for 14 yrs. Why does it seem odd that they would want your SS#; you can't work without it.

Yes, but I'm not senging my SS# to anyone thru - an online application. Too risky.

They can test me, make a job offer, and if I accept it, THEN we can talk SS#, driver's license, date of birth, etc.

About as risky as sending SSN overseas, but apparently - thats the thing to do these days.

if you have ever went to a hospital who outsources overseas your records, your SSN is free for the taking.

After being scared to death to make a change (or mistake) I revamped my resume and faxed it for a job for a non-profit organization working for those with disabilities. I'm usually not stupid, really, but I've tried for several days to sign on on the Nuance site application page but don't ever get the "two words with a space" right. First of all, I see a word and a box with a number--do I type both of those, counting the number as a word? Hasn't worked so far. I tried "unscrambling" the word I saw and making it 2 words, but that only worked once and I still didn't get into the application part. Can someone please clue me in? ...

as though they have a very complicated application process. Just reading the instructions had me cross-eyed. Also, in addition to the written test, application, they also WANT 6 VOICE FILES TRANSCRIBED for their testing?? This seems a bit excessive to me... esp. since they have not given any details re. their pay rate, etc. ...

with CBS Transcription. The recruiter provided test results which has not happened on the few times I tested for a company. Her emails were not canned text and she was quite pleasant. Unfortunately, CBS uses Express Scribe which is an AWFUL program now. I could not get the auto backstep to work no matter what I did with the settings. Not sure how one could make any money using that. ...
