Hi ladies,

Has anyone here applied for work at Softscript Transcription based in California?

I had to purchase a new computer with Windows 8 on it for Microsoft Word.

I have had some problem downloading their Audio files onto it and playing them back via the foot pedal.

I tried to contact their Techsupport for assistance, but the tech told me that "We cannot help you until we have verification that you have been officially hired by the company."

I had been told by their Recruitment Supervisor that their tech support was very helpful.

Who could I contact for help with this? Maybe Microsoft or Dell Tech support (the computer was purchased through Dell).

I assume you are trying to do test files. Maybe she can give you some advice.

I used to work there. When contacting the TechSupport, we would have to give our employee number and that was it. Are you going through training, if so it would be better to contact the recruiter. they get a sign on bonus and are very helpful with things like that.

No I have never been formally hired there.

I am still trying to download the Audio files so that I can submit their typing tests, and this has proved very difficult.

They won't hire you without a typing test!

I still don't know why this is happening!

I have contacted Microsoft Word, Dell tech support, I have contacted InQScribe and they never call you back.

I need to install the correct software so that I can start and stop the dictation as I type it. This has proved very difficult.

After about 4 reports, I have to restart the SSIVoxPlayer, so I can hear correctly. It's a pain but if that's what I have to do, I will do it.

I was told by the recruiter that I needed a newer version of Word (above 2003, and mine was 2002). She told me I would not be able to test without it. I wasn't about to spend money just to take a test, so I downloaded the files through my Itunes. I could not get my foot pedal to work with it... so I literally had to pause the audio, type my few words, start the audio and pause again to type a few words. Thankfully, you have 2 hours to finish the test, which is way more time than you will need. The test files are very short, and although it is a pain... it will at least get you through the testing.

I did get hired (starting today)... and when Tech Support installed my software last week, I told them that I had not yet installed the Word 2007 that I just purchased for $130 on Ebay - and guess what he told me????? That my Word 2002 would work just fine, and to return the newer version. When I told him the recruiter was very adamant that I have a newer version, he told me that was not true and was going to call her and tell her to stop telling people that. I also have Windows XP... that also works fine! Good luck to you.

After being scared to death to make a change (or mistake) I revamped my resume and faxed it for a job for a non-profit organization working for those with disabilities. I probably won't get it and might not even pay as much as transcription still does, but was liberated that I took the risk finally. Thanks Q for getting me out of my comfort zone~~~ ...

Hey! I've just recently moved and quit my transcription job working in a hospital. I'm actually looking to work for an online company but am really leary about scams. I'm usually not stupid, really, but I've tried for several days to sign on on the Nuance site application page but don't ever get the "two words with a space" right. First of all, I see a word and a box with a number--do I type both of those, counting the number as a word? Hasn't worked so far. I tried "unscrambling" the word I saw and making it 2 words, but that only worked once and I still didn't get into the application part. Can someone please clue me in? ...

I am trying to apply at Globespan but when I try to download my resume onto the online application I keep getting an error message. You are supposed to download it in Word or pdf format. as though they have a very complicated application process. Just reading the instructions had me cross-eyed. Also, in addition to the written test, application, they also WANT 6 VOICE FILES TRANSCRIBED for their testing?? This seems a bit excessive to me... esp. since they have not given any details re. their pay rate, etc. ...

I applied for a position through the KS website - when I check my status, it shows no "consent" yet. I do not quite understand this - does this mean they provide a "consent" if they want me to go further and take the test ?? with CBS Transcription. The recruiter provided test results which has not happened on the few times I tested for a company. Her emails were not canned text and she was quite pleasant. Unfortunately, CBS uses Express Scribe which is an AWFUL program now. I could not get the auto backstep to work no matter what I did with the settings. Not sure how one could make any money using that. ...
