Maybe MM figures they might be paying UE anyway to employees, - might as well let them go and limit SM

Posted: Feb 27, 2013

the time they will be paying UE.  If they fire ya, eventually UE will run out.  If they keep you as an employee, UE could go on a long time, on and off.  Maybe this says nothing good about the overall work situation, if they are willing to let MTs go.  It means TAT is easier to meet with fewer MTs and if they are willing to pay UE to ex-employees, tells me they know they will never have need of them again and eventually UE will run out.

then they need to lay off not fire - there is a difference

[ In Reply To ..]
laid off easier to get unemployment, and easier to get a new job.

MM doesnt care how easy it if for you to get another job. They want - to fire you and be done with ya. nm

I realize that - but they need to lay off and not fire

[ In Reply To ..]
in the end it makes no difference to them so why not lay off instead of fire?
In the end it does matter to them. If laid-off it's UE, if fired then probably no UE. NM - anon

xx

Correct. If they can show it was your fault you got fired, no UE. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
If they can document that you failed to fulfill your duties in any way, you will not get unemployment.

Thats not true - they changed the game

[ In Reply To ..]
You could fight it anyway. They changed the game. The quality standards were put in place when we were on 1 account. We were forced into a cesspool with no training and no adjustments for error rate. You could fight it for sure and probably win fairly easy.
You think it would fairly easy to win a lawsuit against MM? - LOL. I will give you a ride to file your suit. nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
Um... its not a lawsuit - its UE and
[ In Reply To ..]
with all the claims against them already for no work and offshoring, it wont be hard for UE office to see that they are firing to get out of paying. Wont be hard to win that at all.
Do you think all UE offices are connected across the country? - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Not to mention, do you really believe the UE office is there as an advocate to the unemployed? Because that is patently false. They are a bureaucracy put in place to screen people out. As a rule, if you are fired it is unlikely you will receive UE.
strange... my daughter got fired from a job - for not showing up and still
[ In Reply To ..]
got unemployment!
She shouldn't have. She got lucky. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
It likely depends on the state you live in.

If they can show good cause for firing you, you won't get UE. If you are a lazy, bad employee the company should be able to fire you and you should not receive UE.

It also depends on whether MModal will fight the claim. If they have a long termination list, I suspect they are in the mood to fight the claims.
wrong - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
many posters here are badly misinformed about UE benefits. Termination does not prevent you from qualifying for UE.
umm...wrong - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
The unemployment office is, indeed, an advocate for the unemployed. Unemployment insurance is in place to benefit the unemployed. We pay into it. If you have paid in enough, it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to be found ineligible for UE. Being terminated does NOT obviate one's eligibility for UE.
ummm...wrong - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
It is correct that being terminated does not automatically disqualify you. However, UE is not an ENTITLEMENT program. You are entirely wrong about the whole "if you pay in enough" you will qualify. If you get fired for good cause and the employer decides to push the issue, you WILL BE DENIED.

At this point I could care less if you spread your disinformation. I don't need UE and feel sorry for the people who strut in to the UE office and expect a check to just be handed over no questions asked because of all the sunshine blowing going on here today.
And, you might get denied, but that does not mean - you still wont collect
[ In Reply To ..]
Then you will just have to file an appeal, and I know a good many people who have filed appeals and won, and got all those weeks of back UE paid.

I dont think MModal wants to fight the fact that they are overstaffed due to offshoring and are grasping straws to get rid of people at this point.

I personally think the supervisors are the ones spreading all this nonsence about being unable to qualify for UE if you are fired. That is false.
not what I said, anon - sm
[ In Reply To ..]
I never said UE was an entitlement program. I also never said if you pay in enough, you WILL qualify. I said "it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to be found ineligible".

I'm not spreading disinformation. I'm glad that you don't need UE. I have benefited from UE in the past, and I can assure you, I was NOT STRUTTING into the office. Good luck with your sunshine.
It is true, however, you can fight it, doesn't mean you would win. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
Unemployment is not automatically given to everyone, it just is NOT.

You can fight it, but so can MModal.
nothing to fight; she is entitled to UE - ...
[ In Reply To ..]
as long as she made enough money in the qualifying period.
NOT TRUE, she got fired for poor performance. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
The ONLY way you are gauranteed UE based on qualifying period is if you were laid off.

If you are FIRED for cause, then there are no guarantees. If you fight it, you may just win and get UE, but you CAN be denied.

they call it that but 1 error - does not equal poor performance
[ In Reply To ..]
It could fall under "improperly or illegally fired."
And 1 error will not get a good MT fired. - nm

unless they truly are weeding out - and stranger things have happened nm

But why fire a really good MT when you have so many so-so MTs to chose from? - I am sure MM doesnt have as many SM
[ In Reply To ..]
really good MTs as they would like but betcha they have more so-so MTs than they would like. It makes no sense to fire a really good MT when you have so many so-so MTs that you can let go. You know your skill set. You know if you have anything to worry about. You know if you have been warned about your performance. If you are confident in your skills and dont get emails about production, dependability etc, you wont be fired. They have plenty of MTs who dont work schedule, production is low, mistakes are many, dont follow specs to chose from when they want to lighten the MT load.
said she'd been working 2 years without any problems - if she was that bad
[ In Reply To ..]
If she was that bad wouldn't they have realized it before 2 years?
No, not if she wasnt *that bad.* But now, with less work, MM doesnt - need the extra baggage. A good enough SM
[ In Reply To ..]
MT 2 years ago may not be a good enough MT now, which is what they want as they are weeding out extra baggage.
listen here missy - missmary
[ In Reply To ..]
If you think you are immune to this, you are not. Your day is coming. This company has openly admitted what its goals are. I believe you to be above an MT for MModal, but you still are not immune. You will be gone with the rest of us. Now, stop harrassing us. Go about your existence here, because it is short lived.
Missy? Really? lol - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
Mom! How did you get in here? - nm
[ In Reply To ..]
x
FIRED for cause is decided by the unemployment office - not the employer...
[ In Reply To ..]
and certainly not you. Here's an idea: Why don't you LOOK IT UP?
fired for cause refers to misconduct - not performance
[ In Reply To ..]

I would think that would make those with multiple warning - be a greater risk for firing. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
If they are getting multiple warning, seems to say they are not trying to rectify that problem that got them the warnings in the first place.
I would think those already collecting partial UE - would be at greater risk because
[ In Reply To ..]
they might figure they are already paying UE so whats the difference? Go ahead and let them go and let the UE eventually run out. If work is as low across the board as everyone here is saying, its no surprise they are letting people go. Maybe they just dont need as many MTs anymore. Either way, my heart goes out to those who have been let go and for the ones who have been without work, maybe it would be best so they can have a reliable steady check coming in from UE and pursue other job opportunities in the meantime.
Agree. Would not want to be in either group, personally. - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

incorrect - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I hope all this disinformation does not prevent the OP from consulting with UE.
Disinformation is saying she is ENTITLED to unemployment after being fired for poor quality. NM - anon
[ In Reply To ..]

context fail? - nm
[ In Reply To ..]

They don't pay UE - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
UE is paid from Federal monies that come from everyone's taxes plus a big chunk from a payroll tax that employers pay on employees that are currently working for them. The amount of tax is determined by a company's history of unemployed workers. They more they have, they higher the tax.

Semantics. More ppl collecting UE, the worse it is - for MM. nm

[ In Reply To ..]
x

Thus the motivation to fire rather than to lay-off. - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
The more people collecting UE, the more they end up paying.

The MTs collecting partial UE are probably what set this firing spree off.

no, the offshoring of our work is what set this firing spree off - omg

[ In Reply To ..]
!
Puleeze, they have been offshoring for many years. It is not - specific to this event. nm

OMG How Funny - Read Glassdoor Opinion Of Employees, US Versus Indian Employees!

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor.  You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars.  Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India.  What a difference.  They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years.  The US transcriptionists are very sad!!  What a difference..... ...

Paying To Being An MT - Worth It?

Hello forum users!
