nice to know flipping hamburgers is worth more than health information! sarc

flipping burgers for $15 and hour - where

[ In Reply To ..]
I live in Michigan and I would like to know what burger joint is paying that amount. I know last week or so fast food workers had a walkout protesting the low wages but I have not heard of any place paying that kind of money, at least not yet.

If there is a such a place and it is near me I will definitely give up this line of work and go apply. After doing this job for so long and treated like garbage, that job would be a no brainer thats for sure.

It's called Moo Cluck Moo, (Ha) Dearborn Heights, MI. sm - MT looking

I don't have a problem with a business owner paying employees that much for flipping burgers, but if this becomes minimum wage I'm out of here!

Wow - I grew

up there, maybe I need to move back.

Flipping burgers for $15 an hour - MT Headed

I live in WA; that is coming up for a vote here in October. It is not state wide, though, only one area of Seattle. By the way, what makes you think fast food workers are treated well? If that's how you want to use your talents (do you want to supersize that, would you like to make it a combo?) by all means give it a shot. My guess is that you'd be bored out of your mind and wouldn't last very long regardless of how much you are being paid.

For $15 an hour, I'd be thrilled to ask, "Do you want the combo meal?" - SignMeUp

I have problems with this entire issue. First of all, many places are going to have to shut down if they are forced to pay their workers $15 an hour plus provide benefits. Either that, or raise their prices so high that no one will be able to afford to eat fast food, it's a catch 22. It saddens me that an educated person (as you would have to be to do MT) thinks they need to take a job as a food server. There are multiple other things you could do that pay as well (or more) where you could use your mind and skills. I'm naïve, I guess, but how in the world does a person apply for a fast food career? What kind of resume are you expected to submit? I have always had office jobs and like everything else they probably want people with experience. I'm probably in the minority when I say I hope $15 an hour never sees the light of day; it belittles those who are working in professional or semi-professional jobs making the same amount or less. Personally, I'd be embarrassed to tell people I worked in fast food, but to each their own.
being forced to shut down vs raising prices - are not the only alternatives

You forgot one: The company makes less profit. It's true that public corporations have shareholders to answer to, but McDonald's is in no danger of shutting its doors or going broke.

Other Americans earning a living wage does not belittle me or anyone else, and working in fast food is nothing to be ashamed of. Frankly, for $15/hour I would prefer fast food over an office job where I am exposed to office politics on a daily basis and am consigned to work under the thumb of some small-minded office manager who is invariably underqualified and overpaid.
Because there's no "office politics" in fast food? - You must not get out much.

EVERY JOB, no matter where you work, whether in an office or a fast food joint, or a machine shop has its share of politics and inept management and people you just don't like.

I really don't get why you would think a fast food job would be exempt from that.
I would not be ashamed of any job, as long as I was doing it well--sm - anon

Now, there are many jobs I would not enjoy but even if I have to clean a toilet, if I am doing things well, that is where my pride would come from.

Ultimately, if fast food workers (or anybody else) was making more, in the long run it could also allow others to make more. A better wage would allow them to purchase more things which supports other services. It would not occur within a vacuum.
No, ALL jobs need to have pay raised, so if it starts with workers - JJ

in fast food places and working at Walmart, then maybe it will be the catalyst that helps other jobs to raise employee pay. Good grief, but when I left the clerical field over 12 years ago, I was earning $10 for a major insurance company. Recently, after months of searching for another clerical position, I've discovered that frequently $10 is still the going rate! Meanwhile, everything has gone up from food, to clothing, to housing, to gas, etc.

I personally am proud of the workers who are bravely sticking their necks out and demanding a better wage because none of us are being paid fairly. Time for the little kings at the top to stop raking in multiple millions of dollars while the people actually doing the work get paid a wage that doesn't even begin to pay the bills, let alone allow a savings, etc.

I thought one reason we broke from England was because we wanted a more equitable system and did not want lords and serfs, but somehow we've ended up with that system!

So, cheer for the workers demanding $15! Get on board! We shouldn't be making minimum wage as a medical transcriptionist/editor!

The whole point of that line of work, the entry-level wages is because it's an entry level job. A stepping stone to future gainful employment or supplemental income. It was supposed to attract kids, retirees, mother's hours, a 2nd (or 3rd!) job. I honestly can't ever imagine wages will ever reach that amount they are talking about AND the company surviving it.

Wow, and to think I went to college and worked my way up to that, stupid me. NM - econ101

Hmmm. These apples may not equate to apples. A - drive-through near us has a crew

of middle-aged, very experienced men, complete pros, who knock out amazing amounts for the 4 aisles of drive-through cars that back up onto the boulevard at rush hour.

This post reminded me of them, because I suspect this very stable crew is paid significantly more than $15/hour. We're not talking kids who never saw the point of doing their homework working their first job at McDonalds here.

OMG How Funny - Read Glassdoor Opinion Of Employees, US Versus Indian Employees!

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor.  You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars.  Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India.  What a difference.  They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years.  The US transcriptionists are very sad!!  What a difference..... ...

Maybe MM Figures They Might Be Paying UE Anyway To Employees,
Feb 27, 2013

the time they will be paying UE.  If they fire ya, eventually UE will run out.  If they keep you as an employee, UE could go on a long time, on and off.  Maybe this says nothing good about the overall work situation, if they are willing to let MTs go.  It means TAT is easier to meet with fewer MTs and if they are willing to pay UE to ex-employees, tells me they know they will never have need of them again and eventually UE will run out. ...

Average Per Hour With 0.75 Or 0.375 Versus $12.00 Per Hour
Mar 31, 2014

My transcription job was always paid by the hour. I was laid off and they recently offered me a temp position with them making $12.00 an hour.  I was also offered a positon that pays 7.5 and 3.5 cpl.  The $12.00 is employee status for a small local company I worked for over 9 years.  The other is an IC position.  Do you think I would make more with the $12.00 an hour or the per line production rate?  I have never done production by line work so I'm not sur ...
