Maternity leave? - curious

It's pretty bad that I get a response on here faster than I would if I talked to my supervisor or human resources! Anyways, I am only about 4 months pregnant but I can't help but wonder what kind of benefits there might be. I mean they can't really think that I can sit upright and type right after I have the baby. I don't think I would have enough PTO to cover it. It looks like this time they are thinking C-section so the whole sitting up for hours will not happen for a little while!

Does anyone know what Medquist would do for some type of Maternity leave at least so my job could be protected for a week or two? Thanks Medquisters!

FMLA would save your job if you truly want to come back to MQ, but once your PTO runs out there would be no paycheck. If you are FT and have short term or long-term benefits that would be an option to get some income. I know of people who took FMLA and then also collected unemployment but I have not taken FMLA and don't know all the rules.

FMLA will cover you for a total of 12 weeks. When I had my baby, I worked up till the last minute and then went back after 12 weeks. If you go on disability before the baby is due, that would come out of the 12 weeks. I guess pay would depend on what state you are in, but you should get 8 weeks disability pay if you have a C-section. Disability runs at the same time as FMLA, so its not additional time, just money.

First of all, congrats!

I've taken 2 "maternity leaves" since working for MQ, but I couldn't afford to be off for more than 1-1/2 weeks, and that was using the meager PTO I had saved up. I used FMLA just to protect myself. I never had a problem, and I could have taken more time off if I needed it, albeit unpaid. I was spoiled at my previous job, though, because with my first I was able to be off for 12 weeks paid. That was nice.

I could not even begin to imagine having to go back that soon! :( I live in California, and I think they are the only state who will pay an additional 6 weeks of paid family leave (husband and wife) on top of the disability, but I thought every state would give disability pay(?)

Congratulations to you! The Family and Medical Leave policy is in the Policy and Procedure section of MQ Central. Supposedly you can get unpaid time off for up to 12 weeks, but you have to be eligible for it by having worked enough hours in the months beforehand. There is a number to call. I'll email you.

Be sure you have enough work hours every 12 months to get family medical leave if you need it. You will need to have 1250 hours for the past 12 months. If you work the 24-hour work week, you will have 1248 hours, missing two hours.
