I work for MQ but just got a parttime job offer with another company. I have to provide my own computer. Would it be okay to use Medquist's computer temporarily for my new job until I can afford to buy a new one? Is there anybody on here who uses one computer for two different companies?
I do not currently work for MQ, but did in the past, and then, they were very protective of their computers. I actually think that somewhere in all the paperwork we had to sign was a statement that we were not to use their computer for anything else. In fact, we were not allowed to attach a printer to it. But, that was years ago, and probably things have changed.
Depending on the program your new job uses, they may not even be able to download it, since you are not the Administrator of your MQ computer. Many programs can only be downloaded by the Administrator. You may want to check with your new company about what they use and if you have to be the Administrator for your computer.
Lastly, I would not put it past MQ to have installed some backdoor software that alerts them anytime someone tries to add new programs to their computer.
Again, I cannot stress enough, make sure you read anything you signed regarding using their equipment, and make sure you look for yourself on your own paperwork. The MTs on this site are great, but not everyone has been with MQ for the same amount of time and may not have the same paperwork that you do. Best to be safe than sorry. Look for yourself – do not accept the word of someone else as gospel.
Maybe you can rent a computer for a couple weeks.
Good luck on your new job.
I was wondering how you solved your problem. I have been looking for a part-time job also and may run into the same situation. I would appreciate your input.
Thanks.
