There are way too many posts to be disgruntled employees. I - me
[ In Reply To ..]
worked for them several years ago and they were absolutely the worst company I ever worked for. The management was constantly changing, the QA manager was sending out e-mails for new drugs, with the names spelled wrong. The sound quality was the worst I've ever encountered and I've been in this business for 25+ years.
I left on my own, but was offered a management position if I stayed so I must have been pretty good at what I did. I was not then and I am not now a disgruntled employee, but I will not recommend SS to anyone. I know it was several years ago and things could have gotten better/worse, but if the brothers are still owners I doubt that much has changed.

I work for SS now and also worked for them several years ago. I have been happy with the company this time around. I have a great supervisor and plenty of work. I would caution against putting too much stock in the negative posts you read here. They are likely disgruntled employees and could even be just 1 disgruntled employee posting over and over again.
Give it a try. Like the other poster said, you will at least make some money and can leave if it does not suit you. I believe they pay better than most MTSOs out there, and they are 1 of a few left who offer straight transcription and no VR.
Not true. I am not disgruntled at all, but am trying - me

trying to look out for my fellow MTs. My info is fact.
There was that one psycho employee, who I believe has been fired, who would say to any MT that had anything less than glowing to say about SS that we did horrible work, wouldn't work our schedule, and they remembered firing us. In my case I was offered a management position and I was not fired, nor did that person have any clue as to who I was, nor I them.
If anyone is happy there I wish them well, but I could not and would not recommend them to even my worst enemy.
Maybe some have had good experiences (I'm not saying there aren't some),but I absolutely hate it when someone who has never walked in my shoes tries to say something they have no idea what they are talking about. I think it makes whatever company look worse because it sounds as if the statement came from management rather than from an MT.
For what it's worth... Sm - Old Woman

I was in management for a period of time when I previously worked at SS. I have not climbed the food chain that far on this employment, nor am I sure that I really want to be in management. It would depend on a lot of factors that are not germane to this discussion.
As the saying goes, "different strokes for different folks." I was merely pointing out to the original poster that not everyone has a negative experience at SS (or any other MTSO for that matter) and that she should judge for herself based on her own experience.
You were previously in management - or are now
[ In Reply To ..]
different strokes is exactly right. The problem is many more than you want to let on have justified complaints with SS. Drivel and drather on. The ones who pay attention are onto you and we love listening to your blather!
oWoman - any opinion on the radiology work there? - appreciate your levelheaded responses anon2

compliment. It really bothers me when so many people cannot see past their own nose and believe their experience is the experience of everyone.
I do not have any experience in radiology as it is generally treated as a different division, for lack of a better term. I have not listened to the radiology dictation so cannot give an opinion on the quality of the dictation. I will say, however, that I do see quite a bit of examples and normals for radiology. I hope this helped, and if you decide to give it a try, I wish you the best.

I left Nuance after a few years to be with this company. Nuance was horrible compared to SS, way better to work for and have much more work. I like the fact they don't go offshore and they are a straight transcription company. One month working here, and so far, so good IMO.

I don't have any issues with SS and I actually ENJOY it. I don't run out of work and the pay is fairly good. I see the constant emails people speak of, but if they are not concerning me, I do not respond, nor do I get upset about anything. The management staff associated with me and my accounts have been fine. If there are issues I communicate via email or phone and have not had the rudeness people talk about. This could be just an isolated experience, maybe I'm just lucky, I don't know, but I like the job.

If this company has 400+ employees it is hardly a true assumption on your part to say there is just 1 disgruntled employee. There are so many of us who have been burned. I'd more likely believe the posting of the MT who said she left on her own. Things need to change in this workforce. We are all being handed promises that are never kept.
Honesty - Not disgruntled, just honest reply

While I am not going to bash SS, I will give an honest evaluation. Please keep in mind that SS management routinely monitors this website and creates replies without acknowledging they are SS management. Perhaps, through this monitoring they might pick up some ways to improve their company and cut down on turnover.
One could acknowledge how often SS has to post for new employees. It is not because of exceptional growth of this company. Turnover is extremely high. SS pays well; however, you will work harder than you probably ever have worked for that pay and are constantly harassed regarding line counts, extra hours, etc. They do pay on time and have direct deposit. QA and audits are horrendous. Dictators are 90% ESL, and not easy ESLers, and you might have only these ESLers during your entire shift. Sound files lack quality, among other quality issues, it is often very difficult to hear the dictator even with volume wide open. Platform is cumbersome. System is down consistently without pay. Emails are not answered in a timely fashion, i.e., when you need an answer quickly; or not answered at all.
This is an honest evaluation from a non-disgruntled individual. However, do try them out for yourself, but please come back to this site and give your impression as to whether this was an honest evaluation.

when a company has an average of greater than 400 MT/Editor turnover per year, one would think that if the upper level management of the company were professional, they would realize that changes need to be made. Many of the problems MTs meet are probably not a result of a bad personal manager, but that upper level demands hands-on managers react in this manner. And, I bet that hands-on managers who might be reading this post are smiling right now.
Currently work for SS and have for over 2 years. - see message

I don't see SS as a bad company, certainly not any worse than any other and definitely not as bad as many, particularly the larger ones. If they would just find a way to keep everyone busy, I would have very little complaint. But, even that is a workable scenario. I just took on a part-time IC position so when work is low with SS I can jump on with the other company.
Difficulties with unreasonable production managers has not been my experience. I have had 3 different production managers and all have been reasonable, so such complaints about rudeness is not an across-the-board sitution. Can't say it doesn't happen, but can say it goes with the territory no matter where you work, as there are always those who make life miserable for others.
Why can't they keep you busy. They are advertising for help - every 2 days or so. Makes no sense.

That for me was a red flag, along with the posts on here.
Part of the answer is because they and all MTSOs - are delusional about TAT
[ In Reply To ..]
From what I can see, all companies are imagining it is somehow possible to eventually achieve just the right mix of employees to work flow so that the work will be done as the dictation becomes available. Every hospital administrator, medical records director, medical transcriptionist, and transcription service owner knows it is not possible to always be in turn around. It has never happened and it never will. It is delusional to think otherwise. The only way to even come close to that is to disrespect and treat unfairly the very people who make your company possible, which translates, at least in part, to constantly hiring because of high employee attrition while at the same time not really adding any new business to the books.
The transcription service providers will never figure it out, though. And clients demanding these ridiculous TATs, which is the main fuel to the fire, is completely unnecessary. A doctor can wait days, weeks, or longer to do the dictation in the first place without any major repercussions to anyone other than themselves, yet once the dictation is finally done it is imperative the transcription be returned in hours??? Give me a break!

You should be nervous. We are not all disgruntled employees or exemployees. We have or had good reason, hw, see for ourself. I had lots of work the first 6 months, then nothing. You decide.
Hi - Got a job offer from them and wanted to know if anyone here has had experience with this company and did/do you like them. Been with my current company for a long time now and am hesitant to leave, but VR has put a huge dent in my paycheck and SS says they don't do VR...
Thanks in advance! ...
Haven't even completely finished school, tested for a part time IC position, and I got the job offer today! It can be done, ****!

Have an offer, not sure though. Would love to hear from others who work there and in the know. How is their QA done, weekly, monthly, every 3 months like where I work now or just how. Do you think the QA is there, fair, critical, just anything I could find out would be nice. ...
...Okay, I'm not here to start a fight about union vs non-union, but I was just offered a non-MT job at a hospital that has a union, and I am anti-union. When she told me that it was a union position, my jaw dropped. She must have seen the look on my face, because she told me that since this is Florida, we don't HAVE to join the union or pay dues or anything like that. My face brightened up right away.
SO, if you are not pro-union be SURE to ask if the state you live ...
I am updating, like I said I would. I'm still working, and I LOVE the job! Granted, the pay isn't where I would like it to be yet, but it gets better every day, because my line count gets higher every day! Thanks to those of you who encouraged and supported me during the hiring process! ...
Well after being in this business for almost 20 years, I have decided it's time to hang up the keyboard, as a single person I can no longer support myself as a medical transcriptionist. This is not even a good part-time job anymore. I have worked for more companies than I cared to admit, suffered through intolerable divas as team leads, gestapo QA, constant nip picking on where a comma goes, or a verb, and had my cpl reduced from what started out at 13 cpl to 0.0350 cpl.&n ...
I have 2 job offers from 2 different companies, but both of these companies are fairly large and have multiple posts with complaints that there is just not enough work for everyone. Would it be possible to take both offers, on the chance that if one doesn't have work the other will? I might be kinda screwed if they both have a lot of work, but it might be worth it to see how both will work out without closing any doors. Has anyone done this before? Is it possible to run 2 companies differen ...
Wow. I was just offered a job by MQ. I politely asked if the 'rumors' were true about being docked for sending reports to QA. I was informed that if you are supposed to do 6,000 lines a week and 300 lines total come to QA, then yes you would be docked 3 cents per line. If you are part-time with 4,000 line a week and 200 lines total came to QA, then you would be docked. I politely said that I would have to decline.
BUT, if you feel that even QA canno ...
I have a job offer from Transolutions, but I have a couple of questions.
I use Instant Text and I need to know if their platform is compatible with it. This would definitely be a dealbreaker for me.
The opinions of the company I read on this board were not very favorable -- slow speech rec program, too much speech rec, etc. But all the opinions were at least 2 years old. Is there any more current information out there?

I'm considering an offer from a national company of around 8.75 cents straight typing and around 5.5 for VR. This would be for a full-time position and I have over 10 years experience (but none with VR). I'm currently on unemployment earning around $1500 a month. My normal production of straight typing is around 150-200 lph. With this info., should it be a problem to earn more than what I'm currently making on unemployment? I'm afraid to make the change as once I ...
MQ offered me a full-time position last week, after all the testing, but after reading this board, with all the firings and lawsuit, and outsourcing, I don't know if I want to work for them!
Is there any reason not to work for them? I would appreciate any input.

I am an MT with 20+ years experience and switched careers a year ago when our hospital's Transcription Department was eliminated and all transcription was outsourced. I am currently working full-time as a secretary but am looking for part-time MT work to supplement my income as most of my wages are going towards my family's health insurance. I was hoping for 10-15 hours per week, but 20 hours are required and I'm not sure I can handle 12-hour days between both jobs. Does ...
I just had a job offer for Probity. I am considering it, but before I accepted I emailed them with a question about if there is steady work and still have had no response. I am on unemployment benefits, so if I take their job and then there is not steady work and if I have to quit, I cannot get my benefits back. So, it's a delicate decision. Is anyone working for them who can tell me anything about them....good or bad? Thank you. ...
MQ has scheduled an offer phone call for me today. I am kind of scared. I have many years into MT and thought I might as well since they will someday employ me through buyouts anyway. Is there any good reasons why I should accept the job. Or should I avoid the call and just keep sending out resumes. Please if there is anything good to say now is the time because I am 50/50 on taking the chance. Thanks. ...
I lost my job a few months ago. I started applying, testing, waiting to hear from companies. I did get hired this week part-time for VRE work and it pays peanuts. A second company was interested in me and I went through testing, filling out tons of paperwork, phone calls and waiting. They offered me a job as an MT and also VRE. The offer is so disappointing! I have a lot of experience but that does not seem to count for anything with them. The wages are ...

I got a job offer at Probity. The pay has an incentive built in for anything over 5000 lines per pay period. Does anyone know what the pay period is? I just wanted to wish all of you good luck if you get the offer and want to take the test for the coding class. We all have to decide what is best for ourselves. As an experienced MT, would you take a job that started at 7 cpl? I don't know if this is the norm now, but I have interviewed for 5 jobs this week, none of which have offered more than this. One of the jobs sounded great, but I am terrified to take it because of this 7 cpl offer. She said there was no wiggle room, so I can't ask if they'd consider going up a little. I have 10 years of experience and have been at the same job for 8 years.
