I think the Q should be educating all the doctors - dnr

that they are dictating for ASR and how to do it, punctuation and all. They need to take some responsibility for this. If they would dictate for ASR, ASR output would likely be better. I base this on the doctors who do dictate everything, including punctuation and the fact the output is good for this doctors. Although, these doctors do tend to speak in a more understandable manner. I spend too much time stopping to punctuate, and I shouldn't need to.

Nothing has changed in the 35 years I have done transcription. The docs develop their "style" on their own and very rarely change anything unless they are the rare doc that reads what they dictate. They do not care how transcription gets done at all, never will and I am not sure that I blame them. They went to school for umpty years to practice medicine, not write or dictate reports. Flame away - the debate has been going on for decades and nothing changes.

Bad news, they did educate them. When they first started rolling out ASR only certain docs were "allowed" to use it. That was 4 years ago when I first started there. And then they decided since it was so easy you were only going to get 70% of your base pay; then it went to some other ridiculously low number, and most all the accounts went on it for most all of their dictation and that's when I quit. Doesn't really matter to them how good the docs are as long as they can pay you 3 cents a line.

There is no rhyme or reason why some dictators reports will come through ASR and others will come through straight typing. And now with MQ pushing this heading thing we won't be allowed to F11 any more for reports with more than 6 standard headings. They might as well just advertise 100% ASR because that is what they are aiming for.

Where did you hear that we will not be able to F11 for anything with more than 6 headings? Can this really be true? Say it ain't so.....

At least here in the North we started using the new heading feature.... The headings are listed on the left side of the screen now instead of coming in with the Ctrl-S. We are supposed to add the headings as dictated. No more F11 allowed on those reports. Coming soon to an account near you.

So, you are telling me that if you have a horrid ASR note in front of you, if the headings are listed you cannot scrap the whole report and start over.....they expect you to struggle through it and fix it? There is no way to start over with a dictator who is obviously not a good match for ASR?

I was just talking about the reports that I and assumed everyone else on my team automatically hit F11- those ASR reports with Ctrl-S standards with more than 6 headings (one account had 23!) and we were expected to cut and paste the entire report even though the dictator skipped all over the place and didn't dictate half the headings anyway. Those nightmare ASR reports. Now we are supposed to just pull in the headings from the list and edit as usual.

I could at least count on a couple of those reports a shift, meaning good typing lines, but now that the heading feature is in place it is all ASR again.

I am sure the F11 feature is still in place for horrid dictators, but you can always put in a Q ticket or notify your CCM with job # and they will do a review and hopefully remove the dictator. I have been able to remove quite a few dictators from my accounts, and not all ESL either. Some of the English ones are the worst.

The Q has no way to educate the doctors. The - sm

facilities themselves are the ones who "train" the doctors for ASR, if it is even done at all.

Doesn't it drive you nuts when a doctor consistently cuts himself off when he dictates? I sometimes get half words, the last couple letters of words, places where I haves to leave blanks because they say something like: EKG showed (silence) rhythm. What kind of regular? encounters, are they required to have a short course on proper dictation procedure? I would think, being that this medical record is sooo freaking important that we are drawn and quartered if not perfect, that these professionals who generate these reports would also be schooled about proper pronunciation, enunciation, etc. before they throw it out there for us to perfect. To the poster who posted below looking for information on TTD. They don't have their own accounts. They work for Superior Global and maybe others. Superior pays them to find ICs. They probably pay them 4 cpl and then TTD pays you a cruddy 3 cpl to edit VR reports. They don't offer direct deposit because Superior is paying them and then they pay you, which is why you have to wait a month for your check. Ok, I'm curious, but can doctos do their dictations anywhere? A lot of times, I hear a bunch of doctors in like some sort of dictation room. You can hear other doctors doing dications. I just picture a bunch of people in white coats sitting at a desk talking into a phone. lol. Other times it sounds like they're in an emergency room while an emergency is going on. My girlfriend told her internist about our plight and the doctor said that they were actually forbidden to use a transcription service and to do it themselves instead. She hates it and would rather have a transcriptionist do it because they are so good at what they do! I don't understand why they would be forbidden to use a transcriptionist.
