Pig doctors - Disgusted!

Posted: Feb 16, 2014

I dispise doctors who not only eat while dictating, but eat with their mouths right up to the phone, openly smacking loudly - smack-smack-smack.  What disgusting pigs!  I hate them! They obviously aren't taught any table manners where they come from.

Money Lost (sm) - Rose

[ In Reply To ..]
For every job dictated while eating we lose money. Each bite & chew costs us 25 seconds of unpaid time waiting for the next word. Every bite costs us 4.16 lines that could have been completed as we sit and wait for the chew. Lets say the doctor eats an entire meal during that document. We will have lost 8 min. 33 seconds sitting and listening to the chewing (or about 70 lines) per meal without pay.

I think we need to start a campaign to get everyone to bring a plate of food to their doctor's visits and make the doctor wait over 8 minutes listening to us chew before they get answer to their first question. After all, at least they are getting paid to do nothing while we eat!

They are right up there - Sm

With the snot swallowers. Geez! Prescribe yourself a decongestant!

How about the page flippers and gum chewers! - MTgonesoon

[ In Reply To ..]
Also the ones who constantly add diagnoses and rearrange paragraphs.

Page flippers make me the angriest! - I hate them - nm

[ In Reply To ..]
xx

How about the yawners - - NYMT

[ In Reply To ..]
Those who yawn through a word or phrase and don't go back to repeat what they said! Grrrrrr!

How about - Grow up

[ In Reply To ..]
The transcriptionists who call their employers pigs and morons? That really takes the cake.
Grow up - bananabread
[ In Reply To ..]
Ok then, how about we give YOU all the food eaters, gum smackers, crunchers, yawners and page flippers and see how much patience you have at the end of the day? Hmmm?
I get them everyday - Grow up
[ In Reply To ..]
I am a QC person, so I hear this all day, every day - everything that the MTs can't understand comes back for me to fix. I was a transcriptionist before I became QC so I've heard it all. That does not give anyone permission to call someone a "pig," I'm sure you would not like it if anyone called you that. I hope you didn't expect crystal clear, coherent dictation all the time. If you did, I can understand why you would be disappointed.
we don't need permission - to tell it like it is
[ In Reply To ..]
Any more than you needed permission to jump on and tell us to grow up.
No, but you should have better judgement - It is just unprofessional
[ In Reply To ..]
And you wonder why facilities are so gung ho to go to front-end VR and eliminate MTs entirely? And why employers won't hire former MTs?

A lot of it has to do with the unprofessionalism they see displayed by MTs.

Yeah, they all come here - and see our anonymous
[ In Reply To ..]
posts and then decide, by golly, to go to front-end VR & eliminate us! That'll show us!!
Agree, I can't believe how MTs complain about - things that obviously are
[ In Reply To ..]
A part of the job description and to stoop as low as calling the dictators names is ridiculous.
How do they "see" anything about MTs? - We are invisible entities to all of them.
[ In Reply To ..]
.......
"unprofessional" - me
[ In Reply To ..]
It is them being unprofessional. Would you eat, burp and vomit with your mouth in someone's ear? How about fart and pee? Because that is technically what they are doing. I've heard those things myself. Being cognizant that there is a human being at the other end of that recording and considerate of that fact now that is being professional. Complaining about the above sounds and how frustrating and nauseating it is, is not unprofessional. I get so tired of these holier than thou posts. People come here to vent to people who would understand and while for the most part they do there is always one of your type. Go be better than us someplace else wouldja?
Yay!! - Non Holier Than Thou
[ In Reply To ..]
Thank you!
Grow Up - Old Pro
[ In Reply To ..]
I have been both an MT and an MTSO and have worked very hard over the past 10 years for the rights of MTs. I intensely dislike the giant corporations that have swallowed our indutry. That said, I do think it is disheartening that anyone would call anyone else a "pig." This is the sort of behavior one would expect from a 6-year old, and even then, it would be unacceptable. Professionalism goes both ways. I hate to see our professional dialogue sound more like a bar fight than civil discourse.
You've wasted your time - Lola
[ In Reply To ..]
We have no rights. NONE! It isn't because we come here to vent about the lack of decorum the dictators show. Eating while dictating, chewing gum, snorting and swallowing mucus, flipping pages, constantly going back to change things... these things show us no respect at all. Why should we respect them? We have no right to complain about this to the doctors, no right to complain about this to the companies we work for. It's bad enough they micromanage every little thing we do, chip away more and more at our pay... we have no right to refuse to transcribe a horribly massacred dictation, and according to you and your ilk, we don't even have the right to complain about it to each other.

So please inform us... what exactly are our rights you have been working so hard over the past 10 years?
We are talking about being professional. Calling someone a "Pig" is not - professional. You have the right
[ In Reply To ..]
to say whatever you want and to vent, but it's very unbecoming when you resort to name-calling and the OP's post is not only disrespectful, but it makes us look bad.
Miss Manners - in the house!
[ In Reply To ..]
x
It's also not professional to talk into the mic with - your mouth full...
[ In Reply To ..]
Professionalism goes both ways..
I agree - Grow up
[ In Reply To ..]
You know, these discussions may be an example of why there is bullying at school. Let's all gang up on anyone who calls us out. It's okay to display unprofessional behavior and call others inappropriate names because we are so downtrodden and abused. If any of you worked on site, you would have been fired on the spot for calling a doctor a "pig." It really is no wonder that the facilities worked to get MTs at home so that they now longer had to deal with the crappy attitudes. If you want respect from your employers and to be taken seriously, start behaving like the professionals you claim to be.
We dont work in-house - WTH
[ In Reply To ..]
You act like there is a group of us running through doctors' offices screaming Pig! Pig! Nobody actually called an actual doctor a pig to his face!!! And you think that this is the reason facilities "worked to get MTs at home" It was about the money, honey!!
The doctors are not our employers, for many of - us. FYI.
[ In Reply To ..]
/.
Yeah, but if it were not for the doctor, you WOULD'NT HAVE A JOB. - NM
[ In Reply To ..]
Geesh, take a Xanax - or something.
[ In Reply To ..]
you are getting a little overwrought over N.O.T.H.I.N.G.
Geesh - Linda
[ In Reply To ..]
So that's your solution to any problem--take a mother's little helper? No wonder everything is so messed up.
No, that was a suggestion - for the poster
[ In Reply To ..]
Who was shouting. This whole thread has evolved into a Twilight Zone episode.
I tended to agree with the - one saying it was unprofessional
[ In Reply To ..]
until she claimed that it was "our crappy attitudes" that got us sent home. WAY out of line there! First, it is totally WRONG, has nothing to do with why we got "sent home." And second, most of us had lovely attitudes until the MTSOs we got farmed out to started treating us with so little respect. (I also suspect our crappy attitudes are probably generally limited to this one subject. While I agree it's not good to refer to anyone as a "pig," or a "moron," I honestly believe many of these dictators do not even realize there is a human that will ever hear the noises they are making or sustain a loss in pay while they pause, talk to their colleagues, order pizza. I really think some of them think it's voice recognition now, and would be shocked to learn there is a live human sitting there with earphones on at the other end.

and the ones reading the EMR as they dictated... - Depressed

[ In Reply To ..]
...I have had several short H&Ps that took over 20 minutes for the doctor to dictated. ALL that wasted time waiting for each word... :(

I couldnt agree more! - They make me ill and mad!

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't know if it is the platform I use or the phone they use, but I hear every sniff, swallow, gulp, chew and short as if they were in person doing it in my ear! It makes me gag! If they would not do those things to a person sitting in a room, then they should not do so over the phone. I get 15-minute dictations and they are eating the whole time! I swear the only time they eat is when they are dictating!

Arrggghh!

One doctor I have always eats while dictating and - I think it is intentional

[ In Reply To ..]
That would never fly if he had a patient in the office he was seeing so around lunch or a little after for me if I have a dictation of his can bet he is eating. I have his smacking and also swallowing. It irritates me to no end. I would never allow my children to be so rude, never. If I ever end this job think I will call his office and make him aware of the people sitting at the other end and what they don't like to listen to.

Pig doctors - Disgusted too

[ In Reply To ..]
They should send these reports to India - they wouldn't know any difference.

Right..because Indians can't distinguish - when someone is talking

[ In Reply To ..]
while eating...where do you get THAT logic?

Racist comment - no need for that. - Period

[ In Reply To ..]
Last time I checked Indians were human beings - don't use your anger at the industry to justify mean or racist comments.

Indian people are not a race - wes

[ In Reply To ..]
Indians may be called South Asians because of India's geographical location, but in terms of genetics, they are classified under Caucasoids. Therefore, the above statement cannot be classified as racist. It is simply a generalization, right or wrong.

Every negative statement against another group of people is not racist. The word racist is widely abused and is losing any meaning it may have once held.

The statement could be called ignorant, but it cannot be called racist.

Disgusted too - Nick

"There Was A Time When Doctors Were Doctors" By James Ong
May 06, 2014

From the KevinPho MD site:   There was a time when doctors were doctors. There was a time when young men and women sacrificed the best years of their youth, learning to treat patients and conquer diseases, not to become typists, paper pushers, data-entry clerks, or to have hospitals, insurance companies, and the federal government dictate to us how to practice medicine.   There was a time when doctors were trusted. There was a time when we were not guilty until proven ot ...

Doctors Who Cut Themselves Off
Feb 05, 2010

Doesn't it drive you nuts when a doctor consistently cuts himself off when he dictates?  I sometimes get half words, the last couple letters of words, places where I haves to leave blanks because they say something like:  EKG showed (silence) rhythm.  What kind of regular?  Regular rate and....?  Arrrrggggghhhh! Sorry.  Needed to vent.  I make sure to send a note that dictation cuts out.  What I really want to say is the doctor dictates like an idio ...

encounters, are they required to have a short course on proper dictation procedure? I would think, being that this medical record is sooo freaking important that we are drawn and quartered if not perfect, that these professionals who generate these reports would also be schooled about proper pronunciation, enunciation, etc. before they throw it out there for us to perfect. Getting kind of sick of these lazy, mush-mouthed, slurred, rapid and mispronounced dictations. ...

Why is it the doctors cannot give you the information you need in the order you need it.  They all know the standards and they will sure raise hell if we deviate.  Would it be too much to ask for just a little consideration in this regard so we are not constantly jumping all over the place?  I mean, heck, their God, God can do anything. ...

Transcription Doctors TTD

To the poster who posted below looking for information on TTD.  They don't have their own accounts.  They work for Superior Global and maybe others.  Superior pays them to find ICs.  They probably pay them 4 cpl and then TTD pays you a cruddy 3 cpl to edit VR reports.  They don't offer direct deposit because Superior is paying them and then they pay you, which is why you have to wait a month for your check.   I would never work for a company that is just bascially an agency hir ...

I accidentally posted this on the main board too so sorry for the repeat post. I saw a post here that TTD was a bad company to work for. Student Doctors!
Nov 04, 2010

Mar 24, 2011

that they are dictating for ASR and how to do it, punctuation and all. They need to take some responsibility for this. If they would dictate for ASR, ASR output would likely be better. I base this on the doctors who do dictate everything, including punctuation and the fact the output is good for this doctors. Although, these doctors do tend to speak in a more understandable manner. I spend too much time stopping to punctuate, and I shouldn't need to. ...

Where Do Doctors Dictate?
Oct 13, 2011

Ok, I'm curious, but can doctos do their dictations anywhere? A lot of times, I hear a bunch of doctors in like some sort of dictation room. You can hear other doctors doing dications. I just picture a bunch of people in white coats sitting at a desk talking into a phone. lol. Other times it sounds like they're in an emergency room while an emergency is going on. People are asking for things, things are clanging around. Sometimes it sounds like they're in their own home. Had an ...
