Because the second TAA petition is about to expire, and as soon as we all get laid off, then we can get back to school.

How is this done? There will be a LOT of people on this board interested in this information ... - anon

This is going to be vital - TAA has helped a LOT of people here go back to school and I myself would be interested in finding out more. There used to be someone who was really knowledgeable who came around on this board and gave out tons of helpful information - I hope she sees what's going on and will come back again to help point us in the right direction for this benefit.

you all would have signed up for this a long time ago, when you started losing work to India. I'm not sure if they can help you if the company goes under since that is not due to offshoring. Anyway, here is a link to the petition. It is about to expire and it does state that three signatures are needed to get a new one. I would not contact the department of labor, I would contact TAA directly. If you poke around on this link, you can get a number to your state or even the national number. If you are low on work now and can prove when you started making 80% or less of your wages due to offshoring you should be able to sign up. It does take some time but it is worth it. There are other things besides going to school that they can help you with.

I'm super busy today but maybe tomorrow I'll post more about this. I found the labor department phone # online and called....said I don't need other signatures, that there is a "master petition number" and she knew the number and gave it to me and emailed me a paper to fill out and "mail." I was let go in August 2013, so the 6-month period expired where I could get financial help while going to school, but I don't care about that really. Lady said I have up to "whenever", to apply for getting paid for training. Any training has to be approved by your local labor department. Again, long story, I'll post more when I find the paperwork. Try calling. Maybe different states have different rules though. I live in NJ.

This petition you are on is the second. You get schooling paid because you were laid off before that petition expired. Once this expires this month, we need 3 signatures to get a new petition... however, personally I think they will fire the rest of us for poor quality versus just laying us off.

working here anymore. I am going to school on TAA and getting UE while doing it. I lost my job due to offshoring. I come on here once in a while to see what is going on with this company. I see they are possibly filing bankruptcy. Is this why everyone would get laid off? If it is, I'm not sure TAA would help. This is a program to help people who are laid off or hours cut due to offshoring. Would the whole company go under or just in the US. There are a lot of unknowns at this point. I wish you all luck.

I put downtime for the entire time, because I get paid by lines not by sitting at a blank computer screen waiting for work. I got a message saying that there was issues, but usually after a few minutes a job would come through. Did you check back in every 5 minutes. Again, I do not get paid for that.
