For awhile now and have applied for tons of jobs outside the MT industry. I haven't had a lot of luck until all of a sudden it's like an explosion of jobs just this week.
I started tutoring elementary school kids in reading at 25.00 to 30.00 an hour. I got my first student in 9 days for 3 days a week, and now I'm start several more - so working 10 hours per week and making 250-300.
Sunday and Monday, I did a 2-day temp job at 11.50 an hour.
Then, I got a call yesterday from a recruiter I've been working with who has submitted me for 5 jobs with large companies. The lowest paying job is a secretary type job that starts at 20.00 an hour, and the other 4 jobs are higher paying than that. I'm told I've made the short list already for 3 of those.
Today, I got a call from a different recruiter I've been working with, and he has 2 jobs. One of them pays 20.00 an hour, and the other pays 30.00 an hour, and I have an interview tomorrow for the 30.00 an hour one and am told I'm their best candidate so far.
I've been looking for 7 months and have submitted hundreds of resumes with pretty much nothing, and now all this.
Persistence pays off. Right now, I'm doing M*Modal at night and tutoring an hour here and there, and things are getting better. The absolute worst case scenario at this point is that I'll be tutoring for 25.00-30.00 an hour a few hours a week and getting a few jobs from M*Modal.
A year from now is going to pass anyway, but if you send out 1 resume per day that's 365 chances for a new job that pays a living wage. If you really want to make more money you can.
