Curious. Those with no work.... - why not leave?

Posted: Aug 11, 2010

I see MQ'ers here complaining a lot about having no work and even asking if they can get unemployment.

I'm curious why you don't go to another company when you have no work, or go to another company rather than try to get unemployment?

Why stay with a company you obviously hate so much?

easier said than done - Angelina

I don't claim to speak for everyone but for me, I'm trying very hard to find other employment. It's just not that easy. As soon as I find something, I'm so outta here but until then I'm stuck.

I'm not willing to go to another transcription company, go at least 3 months without insurance only to find myself in as bad a sitiuation or a worse one.

I already work 2 jobs so the drastic drop in pay I have at MQ is slightly less painful than if it was my sole income. To keep the medical insurance, I'll accept it while I keep looking for something else.

So, until I find a job in a different field, I'm choosing to stick with the devil I know.

I'm so happy that things at MQ are perfect for you and some others here or that you were able to easily find another job. I wish either situation were the same for me.

Just because we're complaining doesn't mean we aren't doing something about our situations.

Just my 2 cents.

It's better to do it - and get it over with

[ In Reply To ..]
than sit around bitching for years about your current job.

You can get COBRA if you need to until your new insurance kicks in. Everyone everywhere, not just in MT, has to do that. My husband did it when he found a new job.

Just do it, get it over with, and be happy.

There are tons of MTs jobs listed on the job boards.

appreciate the advice - Angelina

[ In Reply To ..]
but I am better capable of knowing what's best for me in my situation.

Are you volunteering to pay the excess COBRA costs for me? It would cost me $600 a month. Maybe that works for dual-income households but would absolutely break me.

I don't have another income in my household and will continue to do what I have thoughtfully determined is the best for me in my unique situation.

I have NO intention of sitting around bitching for years. MQ was great for me until recently and, trust me, I am being EXTREMELY proactive about my situation and fully expect to have something else when the time is right. I'm NOT just sitting back and bitching and doing nothing to change my circumstances.

What!? Why the heck should I look elsewhere. - SO MQ IS MAKING US QUIT!

[ In Reply To ..]
What are you, a manager?

I do not hate my job. I like my job. If I did not, I would have left MQ 20 years ago.

IT IS NOT MY FAULT THAT I DO NOT HAVE WORK. It is this companies fault. I see lots of work on other accounts WITH LATE JOBS.

SO MQ IS MAKING US QUIT; THE ONES WHO HAVE NO WORK. After all, you are wondering why we just do not look elsewhere. I am just trying to finish my schooling to get out of transcription.

Lastly, WHY LOOK ELSEWHERE! Did you not read Kumar of CBAY's article of trying to take over! Why go to another place when he will just buyout that company too!

Not a mgr - am an MT

[ In Reply To ..]
Every MT company I've ever worked for has eventually run out of work at least for a period of time. I didn't sit around screaming psychotically because of it...I went out and found work.

That's how MT is - you go where the work is, and no, MQ won't buy out every MT company there is, that's crazytown talk.

Sorry to be so blunt, but there is an element of psychosis here on this particular board.

So,if my kids drive me nuts - just get new kids?

[ In Reply To ..]
Confirming the news Raman Kumar, vice-chairman and CEO, CBay Systems, said that the acquisition of Spheris has helped the company to emerge as one of the biggest firms in business worldwide. Stating that shifting more operations to India was a strategic move, Kumar, who is also a founder of the BPO firm, emphasized that CBay Systems was now all set to spur growth and achieve the target of $1 billion in terms of revenues. He further said that CBay Systems plans to achieve an annual growth of 20 per cent and is seek further opportunities to acquire new firms after the integration process with Spheris is completed.

I BET IF I GO ELSEWHERE, A FEW MONTHS LATER I WILL BE ON THE BOARD LISTENING TO YOU TO APPLY ELSEWHERE AGAIN?

If I am not liking my husband today, just move one and get another husband?

If my job is not giving me work? Just move on and get another job?

What sound psychosis advice you have!
Again, there are still - plenty of other co
[ In Reply To ..]
No matter what you say, CBay cannot and will not gobble up ALL MT jobs. It's impossible. There are thousands and thousands of MTs who do not work for MQ/CBay and will not lose their jobs to them....that's where the psychosis around here comes in.

Your attitude is self-defeating.
Nope, just waiting until my fall classes are done - and then I will move on
[ In Reply To ..]
and getting out of transcription.

Just was hoping to have some jobs to get me by until Christmas.

Then I start my whole new career. Yup, my attitude is so self-defeating. Hahahaha. I will be glad when I am done being an MT.

Good luck to you!
So I'm out of touch with reality... - Angelina

just because I prefer to gut it out a bit while I explore other options and not make a rash decision? Seriously?

You have GOT to be kidding.

Fortunately for me I have a range of education and experience outside of the MT world and am not just limited to an industry I see as dying out in this country. Psychosis? Really? Check out this book which does an exhaustive job of explaining the industries that are dying out in this country and why: A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink. Contains very interesting, very in touch with reality stuff.
What I see is - MTs who
[ In Reply To ..]
like to complain. I've been in this business for 15 years. I can work outside the home and make more money, but I love this job and I make decent money at it.

Again, there is no way the entire MT industry is dying. It's changing, as it always does.

It has been changing ever since I've been an MT, and it will keep changing. That doesn't mean it's dying.

Self-defeating attitudes get you nowhere.
clarification - Angelina
[ In Reply To ..]
I didn't say the entire transcription industry was dying. Just dying out in this country. Maybe I should clarify:

Between EMR and other technological changes and the effects of globalization making a cheaper workforce in other countries more easily available, yes I think it is changing to a point where the workforce needs in this country will drop.

So, since my current situation is not working FOR ME, I choose to pursue other options I have since I am not limited to transcription and you say I have a self-defeating attitude? I sprayed the water I was drinking on my screen at that one. LOL

You don't know me, but I assure my attitude is anything but self-defeating and I have gotten everywhere I've ever wanted to in my life and will this time too.

All the best to you as well!

I am so grateful to the super giant brains who come up with the very valuable advice, "Why don't you just quit if you don't like your job." Aren't you glad someone told you that? I'm sure I didn't think of that...Thanks for your advice and support!
re: Advice - Angelina

Thanks! I probably should have just kept my mouth shut but I get really annoyed by people who need to put others down or people who feel that those who have a different perspective are self-defeating and afflicted with a psychosis when they don't even know the people or their particular situations.

Really burns my biscuit and I've never been good at backing down from that kind of bullying. LOL

But I guess it's a heavy responsibility to have the ONLY right answer and we should be glad we don't have to bear it.

Best of luck to you in your particular situation as well. :-))
Just cannot handle facts. - Wanting us to quit.
[ In Reply To ..]
* Recognise what is happening to you as bullying - it is the bully who has the problem, which he or she is projecting on to you.
* Criticisms and allegations, which are ostensibly about you or your performance and which sometimes contain a grain (but only a grain) of truth, are not about you or your performance. Do not be fooled by that grain of truth into believing the criticisms and allegations have any validity - they do not. The purpose of criticism is control; it has nothing to do with performance enhancement.
* Criticisms and allegations are a projection of the bully's own weaknesses, shortcomings, failings and incompetence; every criticism or allegation is an admission by the bully of their misdeeds and wrongdoing, something they have said or done - or failed to do.
* You are not alone - this is happening to between 3 and 14 million employees
* You may be encouraged to feel shame, embarrassment, guilt and fear - this is a normal reaction, but misplaced and inappropriate. Guilt and fear are well-known as tactics of control. This is how all abusers, including child sex abusers, control and silence their victims.
How true! - Angelina

for either social work which I know does not pay, medical assistant and then continue on after a year a physical assistant, or go into paralegal. Looked into all these and cannot make up mind.

Thanks for your post Angelina!
