Considering coders make more than MTs in general - sm

I don't see why all you ladies have your feathers ruffled. On the AAPC website, coders make an average of $53k a year. Looking it up, the average MT pay is 36K. They are being offered an industry standard. That is just the way it goes. I'm an MT and I think good for them who made it. I'm glad they were able to get into the program. For those that applied and didn't make, I'm sorry. There is always next time. If you didn't even try, you shouldn't be arguing in the first place. A local tech school offers the program for $3k near I live. Since I went there for my MT courses, I already have half the credits. It'd be hard, but I may attempt to tackle that. Since I don't make much, I can get financial aid.

To top it off, they filed bankruptcy in the middle of the night last night and that is bad all on its own.

Listen folks, from what I've heard from those who have gotten in in my group, they make as much as I do or less while they are training. It is only after credentials that they make more, maybe. MModal sees a way to make more money with coders and are giving it a shot. This may be one of the ways to get out of chapter 11.

most likely just a stalling tactic until they can suck that last drop of lifeblood out of the company before it collapses. Any guarantee in that agreement that the program will actually run the full course?

If you got into the training program, better get it - in writing that it wont up and disappear.

Why anyone thinks a newly bankrupt company is offering the deal of a lifetime is beyond me. They barely filed the Ch 11 in the dark of night last night, so it remains to be seen whether they will even stay in business. The word "expect" to be able to continue to make payroll, is not comforting.

What M*M sees is a way to make money off - the BACKS of coders. By cheating them.

You KNOW why they are doing this program right? They have ads all over the place for real coders, but no one wants to work for them.

Big red flag regarding the future. A lot of coders are very concerned that this MModal plan is going to drive down wages, as they did with MT wages.

Too see the future, you need only look to the past.

VR was built up to triple your wages. This sounds like a similar scan. Mmodals coding software will help them retire in 5 years. I love it!

So I don't believe the $53K a year. I work 35 hours a week and only made $14,000 for 1 of the big 2 companies. Now I've switched to a smaller company and making even less.

I have been reading the messages in this forum regularly for the past few days and weeks. I am shocked at the number of unhappy people in our profession. Have you ever noticed than when a dictator tries to adopt a "conversational" style of dictating, that it is very hard to try and figure out what's being said? They start and stop several times so that you can't remember what the original line of dictation was, plus they add "you know" every other sentence. I DON'T KNOW!!!!! Is it the same 10 cents per line as medical? I am out of work right now with over 2 years of experience. I have been checking out freelance websites, and the pay seems pretty low. It is sometimes described as dollar amount per audio hour or as an hourly rate. They list the hourly rate as about $5 an hour or less. Is it because the work would be easy? If you have a doctor that dictates a procedure, very clearly, and you can actually spell it, but it comes up misspelled in spellcheck. So I go on google, look in all my books, and benchmark (can't help it I am anal) and cannot find that exact procedure. In this case it was dictated as an "otomy" but all the references had is as an "ostomy" do you leave it as "dictated and spelled," do you change to the correct form which is the "ostomy," or do you leave a blank?
