Anyone working for MQ use their own computer? - anon

Posted: Aug 06, 2010

Have a question:  Does anyone use their own personal computer to work for MQ? Is it faster than using the free computer MQ provides?  Thanks for the info!

ANON

own computer - computer

I used my own computer, but switched over to MQ's computer. I decided I didn't want to wear out my computer when they can provide me one. I didn't notice it being any faster for our applications.

I wouldn't touch an MQ computer with a 10-foot pole.

why? - give me the skinny

Ya think there is a camera loaded on it?

Just in case, I pick my nose every hour and fling it at the screen!

Maybe not a camera, but can pull up - your activities and

company can place a soundcard to hear what you are saying. Not that they do, but could if they wanted too.

Healthcare service provider CbaySystems, uses analytics not only to monitor and evaluate employee performance, but also for scenario planning.
what do you mean by activities - monitoring
[ In Reply To ..]
the monitoring is done through DocQscribe... how much time in each report, how much time foot is on pedal...

This is not done through the computer itself. You are being monitored on your own computer as well, just so ya know.
Your activities, how many times you visited a website - what you have opened up.

Just like in my previous post above with the website: CbaySystems, uses analytics not only to monitor and evaluate employee performance.

I suppose they can see what sites you visited while you were working. Frightening how much control they have.

Lotsa reasons - shipwecked

Besides work, I spend a lot of time on the computer. I don't trust what kind of stuff is on the MQ computers, and I don't want somebody else's used computer. MQ doesn't allow you to use the computer for anything besides work, and I don't have the room (or electrical outlets) to run two rigs.

re: Own computer - ilr

[ In Reply To ..]
I use both my own PC (when I go visit the kiddos I take my laptop so I can work anywhere, anytime I want) and I also use the one MQ provided at home.

There is no difference in performance/speed at all.

I like the computer MQ provided, as well as that super cool ergonomic keyboard and especially love the headset. It is the Logitech one with a volume control on the cord. The sound quality is exceptional.

There are no secretly installed tracking devices or cameras... â˜Âº

WHAT??? I didnt get an ergonomic keyboard - and my headset SUCKS!

[ In Reply To ..]
And you get to work anytime you want?

Geez... I cant win the lottery and now all of this? When will the torture end?

re: me too - tonta

I do the same, work on my lap top AND the MQ computer. I like taking work outside on the back porch, in the evenings. I got those headphones too, they ARE great.

I also take my lap top so I'm not restricted to just working at home, which is absolutely liberating!

I go to the public library, a coffee shop, cafe, hotel, anywhere there's wi fi and can work and escape the boredom of being at home.

I don't have a problem with the MQ computer. It works very well.

A couple of questions, please - Curious

[ In Reply To ..]
How long does the battery last on the laptop when you're transcribing away from home? Also, does using your foot pedal gather a lot of nosey Nellies around you to ask what you're doing?

I'm debating getting a laptop just so I can go hang out at Starbucks or IHOP or some similar place while I work to break up the monotony.

TIA!
re: Curious - ilr
[ In Reply To ..]
My battery lasts about 3 1/2 hours, but I take my power cord and plug in wherever. The foot pedal is apparently very interesting to people, they mostly want to make sure it's not some super cool computer device that they're missing out on, like a gaming tool. Guess the headphones and pedal make it look like some super high tech game.

No one ever bothers me to the point of disturbing my work.

One of my favorite places to be is my neighborhood Starbucks! It so cool, dark and quiet and the smells are soooo delicious.

I recommend using your lap top exactly this way. Being able to take our work with us like this is very liberating and great for the mind and soul. (for privacy issues: I got a privacy screen)

Are you kidding me? - You work with confidential patient information at
[ In Reply To ..]
This is unreal! I am not believing this. You must be joking, trying to pull my leg!
Starbucks? - Really? nm

re: kidding me - whatever
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't care if you don't believe me! No, I'm not joking. Have no interest in pulling your leg.

I have worked off my laptop for years now, wherever. My CCM(s) are and have been aware of this. I travel around between my hometown, my son's base and my daughter's city as well and take laptop with.

I always maintain my hours, line quota and PAY.

End. I don't feel obligated in the least to convince you.

You got an ergo keyboard? - I had to supply my own

[ In Reply To ..]
I just got a POS straight keyboard and had to buy my own. My last ergo keyboard stopped working less than a year ago and I asked my manager and support if they had a replacement ergo keyboard and I could send back their straight one. They said they didn't have ergo keyboards to send. At that time, I thought it was ridiculous to not supply people who usually type 8 hours straight ergoboards.

I bet they are sending out flatscreen monitors now instead of the 17-inch CRTs

i got both - Marine Mom

[ In Reply To ..]
I am a Spheris MT and we got flat screens a long time ago. They also sent me a eroboard when my last one went out, but I didn't like it and it didn't last very long, so I spent the $60 to buy my own anyway. I have a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000, and I love it. It's not as "clicky" as I would like it to be, but it works.
I bought the same keyboard - Love it
[ In Reply To ..]
I bought the same microsoft keyboard and it has been perfect. I especially like the volume control on the board. I have gone through 3 of them in the last 4 years (one was a little coffee incident).

Okay, what region do you work for? - I was told you could not use your own computer

[ In Reply To ..]
And an ergononomic keyboard? And a headset where you can adjust the volume? Logitech keyboard? Excuse me? I've been with this company for almost 5 years, and have never gotten anything that nice from them. I wanted to be able to work when I was away and was told ABSOLUTELY NOT...too much of a HIPAA violation to load all that access of patient information to my personal computer.

I use MQ computer - Not paranoid

[ In Reply To ..]
I use MQ computer because I do not want to tie up my own computer, taking up memory, etc. I find the MQ computer works very well and I like the fact that if something breaks I can get a new computer sent out within 24 hrs for free! The headphones are the best I have ever used. Another thing, if Support ever has to access the computer due to a system problem, I do not want them messing with my own computer and possibly messing up my settings, etc.

I was told during training - just me

[ In Reply To ..]
"have foot pedal will travel" that we could work anywhere, on any PC that we could download DocQscribe.

mobile MTing - Angelina

[ In Reply To ..]
Yep, I was told that too. I was also told, however, that to work on a wi-fi it has to a "closed" system. Meaning one you own and control security on.

All those public wi-fi at Starbucks, etc. are NOT private. Anyone can access and "hack" the information you send on it and are a MAJOR HIPAA violation IMO. I sure hope none of yall that type at Starbucks, B&N, etc. type for medical facilities where I get my care.

I'm not trying to be nasty here, just a major privacy freak.

MedQuist Must Have Me on an Untrustworthiness Watch List - SillyRabbit

[ In Reply To ..]
Road Runner had to install an extra modem dedicated to the Medquist computer in my home or else I had no computer access. If they are watching anyone, It's probably me.

Support told Road Runner that Medquist computers can only be run through a separate, dedicated modem for security reasons. Medquist does not pay for my internet.

Computer Age VS 6.1
Sep 10, 2010

I was just wondering how old some computers are that are having problems with 6.1 and if there are people with newer computers that handles it better.  Mine is a MQ computer that is 4 years old now and it bogs down quite a bit.  Everything is sluggish now.  I do have 1 GB of ram and 1.84 GHz, so 6.1 shouldn't take a toll on it as bad as it is.  I'm just wondering if I should ask the Q for an upgrade, if that is the problem.  Knowing the RAM and proces ...

Help MQ Computer
Sep 16, 2010

Need help! I don't use an MQ computer, since they don't want you to put anything personal on it, and most of my life, including banking, is on my computer.   My 4-year-old computer crashed and is in the shop for a couple days, and I decided maybe it's time to get a new one.  The problem is, DQS requires a 32-bit system, and so far all the new computers I've found are all Windows 7, which is 64 bits.   I also want to get a slimline, since it kills my ...
