Technology is a one time fee, they will replace people with machines as much as possible. We will be replaced, no matter how bad ASR is, at some point it will be cost effective to do it yourself. Every one of my doctors has a nurse that comes in and takes your history, first visit they go over your entire file and fix the mistakes. Then the doc comes in and as you talk types, which I HATE it is terrible patient care in my opinion. But thats what Obamacare has done, Gvt run healthcare at its best.

Doctors typing as you talk during your office visit has been going on since way before Obamacare. It is due to the software program the health care organization has implemented in order to save the corporation money. Again, not due to government run health care, but management decision to cut costs.
Ive only noticed it here in the past 3 years - sm

and with my medical problems, I spend a lot of time at the doctors office

I have noticed this going on for the last 7-8 years as I go to the doctor a lot also through the Kaiser Healthcare system. They developed software where physicians can create their own reports (fill in the blank format) during your office visit, thus replacing MTs. It is a shame management does not care about high-quality medical care, their only concern is cutting costs here and there creating the illusion of a profit.
Government run healthcare has nothing to do with technology takeover. - nm

You'll also notice (if you haven't yet) that there are a ton of MDs retiring early, and the structure of healthcare has changed. Most of us will be seen by PAs, who are overseen by an MD. I have nothing against PAs. In fact, I love mine. It's just another example of the cutbacks and restructuring that are taking place and have escalated due directly to Obamacare.
PA or NP - Patient

For the past 6 years whenever I have called to make an appointment with my MD, they always give me a PA or NP to see because I can't get in to see my MD anytime soon. This has been going on for years for me--nothing new here, not due to any cutbacks, just a lot of patients who need to see the doctor. I have read somewhere and it has also been on the news that there is a shortage of general practitioners.
probably because people like to sue for every tiny infraction - malpractice insurance is unaffordable

Over the years a couple of hospitals around here stopped delivering babies at all because of this.

It is so sad that some employers do not value the American worker.
My state raised min wage in July - I am still here

I would probably worry if I got MUP on a regular basis but as long as you stay above the minimum wage you are probably fine.
Got an email this afternoon stating the quotas are going up for both FT and PT for the new year. Sure wish the pay would do the same. They keep putting more work on VR so even when I do the same amount of work, my paycheck continues to shrink. ...
I can hardly understand this ortho resident.
Hx: Morbidly obese patient with severe osteo in both knees, failed steroid inj, next step Supartz. He is examining her legs and says that range of movement is restricted due to pain. He then goes on to say There is (s/l raising/racing/razing) of quadriceps muscle seen. She does have tenderness in her knees in both medial and patellofemoral joint lines.
Any ideas? I'm ready to buy this doc a plane ticket ...
Too bad we can't just type our way to $16, $17, and upwards of $20 per hour anymore.
Shoot, with the amount of work available, I guess I should consider myself lucky to even get MINIMUM WAGE. (Wish I was)! ...
the minimum wage is higher than $8/hr having a difficult time finding a job? I am hoping to hear that there are MTs recently laid off or quit who have fairly easily found another MT job, living in a state (such as CA, WA, OR etc) where the minimum wage is higher than average.
I am wondering if companies are ignoring applicants from these states? I so hope I am wrong. ...
Can anyone tell me what the more preferred way to type the above sentence would be? Also, should I not use commas before "dated" and after the date or should I just straight type it "The report dated 08/12/09 states...."
We have a few different opinions in the office (which only dictated and have somewhat poor use of the English language) and I would like to see what you, the MT community, thinks.
Thanks! ...
I lost the email, but supposedly I get a 10-minute break after 4 hours. Do I clock out of DQS but stay clocked on at ScheduleSource or do I stay logged onto both and walk away from the computer for 10 minutes? Does it show up on the time card or only on the pay stub. Does anyone know the details?
Thank you. ...
"At least, I was smart enough to get out of here." REALLY! pfffft. It doesn't take smarts to run, it takes smarts to make a change for the better. There is a big difference. Why don't you get off attack mode? I would keep this job until I got something else, i.e., something is better than nothing when your paycheck pays for food. How self-centered. ...
Has anyone else had trouble with companies not hiring because of state laws with Workmans Compensation. I did all the testing required for a company and then I get an email back stating they do not hire people from Ohio due to the workers comp laws. It would be really nice for companies to take the time and list the states they will not hire from so we do not waste our time doing unnecessary testing. The company is Synernet ...
I am thinking of moving to another state and seem to remember that some MTSOs do not like to hire from certain states for various reasons. California comes to mind, but what are some of the others? ...

It's about time somebody starts this, or has the guts to make such a law and enforce it.
I'd love to see it here. For heaven's sake, I had exchange students years ago who came here from Europe who spoke a hundred times better than some of these morons we transcribe. I believe half of it is sheer laziness, maybe they simply don't care to make the effort to speak better, thinking possibly that if good enough gets them through life, that's all the more ef ...
Doc dictates:
"Will refill losartan and hydrochlorothiazide as 100/25 #90 and a refill. Will give allopurinol 100 mg 1 a day for a month and then 1 twice per day #180 and a refill; gemfibrozil 600 mg b.i.d. #180 and a refill; clonazepam 1/2 in the a.m. and 1 in the p.m. #135 and a refill; Indocin 25 mg 1 three times per day as needed for gout #45 and a refill. I told him how MIZ's may be raising his blood pressure."
Any idea what MIZ may be? I thought maybe it was a category of dru ...
Does AHDI list the total number of U.S. CMTs anywhere on their website? I have been looking, but could not find anything. Anyone have any idea what the number might be currently?

So irritating to see emails and messages on IM that this account it now closed to onshore MTs. So that just says you onshore MTs have done enough, so we are now sending the rest offshore for the night, thanks for your time. Ugh. ...
VD stated the surveys were done, but not much more. Surveys must have been really bad.
There are threats below posted about how this company is closing U.S. offices. Then we should all just stop working NOW. After all, we are to get letters of termination around April 1st. ...
time spent trying to get out a decent product with these guys. With technology on one hand and India on the other getting the good guys, ESLs are pretty much the norm for MTs with any given company these days and we know how to leave blanks and move on.
"Afraid" of ESLs? Oh, no, no, no, no, no. You don't put that one on the MTs. It's the bill collector that drives us, and you will get what you pay for based on the premise that time is money.
enough said. ...
I would like to know exactly where else you would get it from when you're doing 8 hours a day, 5 days a week full-time job for one company for the past 20+ years.
No outside of work hobbies or activities to cause it according to patient.
This is workers comp law, according to the doctor. I'm unsure if it's that particular state where the patient resides, but if I were working 40 hours a week at the same job for many years and develop carpal or anything similar, you b ...
For ESL doctors, account specifics direct me to change word if it is the wrong word, but leave it if its simply awkwardly stated.
Dr states "Patient refers pain in upper abdomen," but clearly means reports pain. Do I leave it or change it? ...
I thought the only law was that they had to pay at least minimum wage. That may not be true. Just read this on a Yahoo story about the California budget trouble. Double damages? Maybe we can use this somehow?
"Schwarzenegger's order, if implemented, could cost the state billions of dollars because the action would violate employment law, Roper said. He cited the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, which he says entitles a worker to "double damages" if an employe ...
