Do any of you print out the dictation for your clinics and deliver them? If so what do you charge for that, if anything? If you do not, what to you think is a fair charge for this service? My clinic (5-7 providers daily transcribed) is about 2 miles away from my house.

I have 2 accounts that I print and deliver for. For me, it is included in my line count price. They also provide the paper and the envelopes.

I have several friends who have private accounts and none of them charge for print and delivery. I know one of them charges for faxing and extra copies.

It depends on your account and whether they are willing to pay for it. If they pay you a low line count maybe it is not worth printing and delivering, especially if you are providing the paper.

In this economy, everything seems to be a tough decision. If you have an account with 5 to 7 docs and they pay you decent, you are lucky indeed. It will be interesting to see if anyone else replies - I would be curious to know if anyone out there charges for print and delivery.

I charge for delivery depending on miles away from me. I have a client who is 13 miles away and I figure it takes me 1.5 gallons of gas to and from the office so I charge $8, which includes wear and tear on the car.

Mine also is included in my charge to them. - sm

I wanted to respond and thank you both for sharing. I do have a good client and make decent $$. I also have worked for them for years and delivered hardcopies for years. A year and a half ago they finally got with the 21st century and while I still pick up my tapes at night from the clinic, I have been transferring the files to them in the midday. They are verbose and I give them 18 hour turnaround. 1 cent knocked off my line rate with the change to electronic delivery.

They are having printer problems so this week I am printing for them and taking it in. I am very happy to do that. I can tell when I am in the clinic that they would love it if I would just show up every day with it all printed out for them. I am sitting here PRAYING that they don't ask me to.

When I started in MT there was no technology to deliver work so it made sense to me to deliver. When I think of going back to it, I guess I just feel like I'm a MT not a delivery driver.

Hopefuly they will resolve their technical problems and I won't be asked to return to the old ways.

I have a shot at picking up a (small) local account. The doctor hasn't called me yet to talk about it, and I have no idea whether he's equipped for digital transmission or not (believe me, I will do my best to talk him into it if he's not). But... just in case he insists upon pickup and delivery service, how much extra should I tell him that's going to cost? Flat rate? Mileage? How much? Just curious if anyone thinks that's a good deal. And ad states "mini" cassette tapes too. I did that 14 years ago and couldn't fathom going through it again. Let alone for $10 per hour -- $20/hr big maybe, but not $10. The driving, the typing, and the time to print +cost of printer ink/toner etc. Doesn't add up to a great profit. When reading this forum or when on ANY Internet site, if you are having trouble because the print is too small, hold down your Ctrl key while using the scroll on the mouse. Moving the mouse "wheel" up will enlarge the print; moving the mouse wheel down will make it smaller. This pretty much works on anything except for e-mails. Don't forget to keep the Ctrl key held down while you are doing this. ...

I am beginning to transcribe for a new local physician. I've been an MT for 20 years, have had my own clients & have worked for the nationals - but I've never printed onto sticky paper.
