If Ms. is incorrect why does ASR print it? - that is all..NM

ASR does a lot of things that are incorrect - sm

Despite what they tell you that we are programming it, it is the tech people who are doing the actual tweaking. We may influence it a bit, but not much. The techies do not know the TSG or DQS S&G or BOS and just put what they think is correct.

Yet we are expected to remember all this - tired

My ASR always puts Ms without the period.

The trend now in BOS 3 is to leave off the period for Ms Mr - Dr nm

I use SpeechMotion and it uses BOS 3.

MM doesn't use BOS3 - Even BOS2 is bottom of totem pole

This is the order of reference materials that are used by the auditing team and QA. Start at the top. If you don't find what you are looking for go to the next.

1. CP.
2. DQS Standards and Guidelines (mostly Fluency rules).
3. Transcription Style Guide (anything not Fluency related)
4. BOS2. (The TSG pretty much has all you need. It's extremely rare I need to look in the BOS).

I was marked down for not putting Ms. If it had caused - me to fail the job I would have complained.

In reality either is correct so I don't think it should be marked an error either way.

Typically things that are correct either way, but are preferred one way in the TSG, are marked only as feedback errors. If anything more than that, definitely complain.

The odd thing is, the TSG does not specifically mention anything about it. When I talked to my PC about it awhile back, it is because the TSG has examples for unrelated things that use Ms. with a period; therefore, that is how it should be formatted. It's whack, but that's what the auditors go by so might as well make them happy.

This is what it is to be a highly trained medical editor - to leave a friggin period off???

the fact this post is even discussed says everything that needs to be said about the state of transcription and what it has become. Beyond stupid, makes NOT ONE DIFFERENCE and should not even be IN the arbitrary BOS much less up for discussion.

So HAPPY I no longer participate in this demoralizing and demeaning profession and feel genuinely bad for those of you still stuck here.

As one person said the nit picking garbage..After being corrected for putting the period and then being correct for not putting the period..MY head QA person said NO period...That being said, has anyone's head person told them otherwise?

sometimes i put periods, sometimes i don't, it is not something that matters to me, nor should it matter to anyone else. its the silliest thing to pretend that it matters of all the other pretend things that matter to this company.

She said that even though it doesn't address it specifically, the examples it gives in unrelated things, it uses a period. For example, on pg 11, in the example about correlative conjunctions.

I just received my W-2 from an employer who consistently paid late for the last 1-2 years. The employer has yet to finish paying me for work from the last quarter of the year and is about $600 to $700 short of what he owes me. When reading this forum or when on ANY Internet site, if you are having trouble because the print is too small, hold down your Ctrl key while using the scroll on the mouse. Moving the mouse "wheel" up will enlarge the print; moving the mouse wheel down will make it smaller. This pretty much works on anything except for e-mails. Hi - My IT is great but for some reason it keeps telling me that my glossary is "incorrect." I can still use the IT with my transcription program and can add entries, etc. I just don't get it. What exactly is "incorrect?"
