If & is not allowed to be use why does ASR print it - sick of this nm

becuase the programmers dont have to comply with - 99% accuracy like we do!

Paid to much for too little work.

do the programmers do anything? - downtime

I kinda wonder. I envision these geeky types sitting around reading magazines and stuff.

Probably more concerned with format than content - no medical training

[ In Reply To ..]
They are more concerned with bolding and capitalization and those blasted required headings than actual medical content. They would not know a PIC line from a PICC line so they would not know to fix it. To them it all looks good. I envision them more concerned with their jobs after the DocQscribe 7 fiasco last week.
Wow - Jax

It cracks me up that so many people on this board complain about the perception by others of how easy/hard their job is to do and yet they feel free to come on here and knock what somebody else does. How many computer programs have you written? Do they all work exactly the way you intended them to the first time you rolled them out? Give them a break. I doubt they have the tools they need to do their jobs either!
Oh please - give me a break
[ In Reply To ..]
I was one of the first groups on the new DocQscribe 7 which was supposed to be the new and improved Mmodal speech engine, the one they are selling to other MTSOs. It is full of errors and is no better than the old speech engine. When we tried to submit requests to fix things like PICC instead of PIC or eliminating q.daily and other such blatant errors we were told in no uncertain terms that the programmers are not fixing anything and to just make expansions/shortcuts around the errors.

You crack me up that you defend them not doing their job. They have the tools and are paid very well to do their job. Why in the world would they not want to make their new speech engine better? Maybe I will refuse to do my job too and just submit the ASR jobs as is. See how crazy that sounds?

Really? - Jax
[ In Reply To ..]
So you personally have knowledge about what tools they have and how much they get paid? Give ME a break! I doubt very seriously you have any idea what it takes to create a program let alone how to fix it. The techs who work on this stuff are just like the rest of us, they are EMPLOYEES and probably don't get paid enough or have the resources they need to get things done. I imagine they sit around and complain about transcriptionists as much as we complain about them after changing things repeatedly in the ASR and having inept MTs keep training the system with the wrong words over and over again. Everybody here is all for banding together, but anybody else that works for this company that is not an MT you want to kick in the teeth.
does seem funny though - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
that the MTs were told that the programmers were not going to fix anything. I have once or twice told my CCM about some repeated SR mistake or other, and she always at least ACTS like it's going to be reported and/or acted upon. Whether it is or not is another matter, but I've never been told well tough luck, the programmers aren't fixing that stuff anymore.
I've been wondering - about that
[ In Reply To ..]
"Inept MTs keep training the system with the wrong words over and over again." Well why don't they require us to have updated training? They stopped the refresher courses they used to have. Why can't they help us all be on the same page, help us to train ASR so it will benefit us all. If I am making mistakes I want to know so I can fix them, but they keep us in the dark, whoever is messing up just keeps messing up, and we all pay the price.
Yes! - Jax
[ In Reply To ..]
Exactly my point, thank you! How many times have you seen the words Hassan trocar or OptiVu for a laparoscope? Or had the ASR put peridium when the doctor is talking about Pyridium? Then you have the ones who blatantly say they don't edit the way they were taught to because it takes too long. This is not the fault of the ASR, it's because MTs are not doing their jobs and researching this stuff and editing correctly.
I did not mean to imply that we - are not doing our jobs
[ In Reply To ..]
I do research and would never allow "peridium" to go through without correcting it to Pyridium, but someone is. Why is this happening? The MTs who say it takes too long are the ones who require me to make the same corrections over and over. Someone posted below that the company does not care. They come up with this Boost program instead of focusing on what would really make us more productive, better editing skills, a better trained ASR that requires less corrections. Sad.
okay but what about stuff like this - downtime
[ In Reply To ..]
Mine always say sodium 142, and then instead of potassium and chloride it will give a string of numbers like 345102. I KNOW that everyone is changing it. There's no way even a baby MT would not know to change it. HOw many times must it be changed before SR understands that potassium comes after sodium and chloride comes after potassium???
did I stump her? - downtime

I guess I did!
No skip markers any more on 7 - give me a break
[ In Reply To ..]
On 6 they were so concerned with putting 5 or more words under a skip marker and making sure that any words the docs spelled out were under a skip marker. Then when the system was having problems they told us to not use the skip and redundant markers for awhile and the world did not end. Now on 7 the skip markers are gone. So, my question is, were we really training it, were the skip markers actually doing something, were they actually part of the problem or were they just something to have us do to make us feel like we were helping train the ASR?

While I do agree with you about the equipment terms that are incorrect no one is training it to skip words or put in whatever medical term it feels like.

I do know that several keystrokes on 7 are different from 6 and were causing major problems, like Ctrl-L for cc list and Alt-L wipes out the entire demographic screen. Because we were the first ones on the program they asked for our input on quite a few things, however, they just told to just figure it out and work around it. Nothing ever got fixed. When demographic screens kept getting wiped out and ccs were added wrong they blamed the MTs instead of the programmers who made those 2 functions so similar. While I do not know personally what they are paid I do know they did not and will not listen to suggestions to make the ASR work better for the MTs.

So if we are not training it and they are not fixing it did we just get suckered again?
skip markers - clauser
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm thinking they did away with skip markers because they realized it didn't help anything.

Okay, wasn't there somebody working on SR? and then we got the email saying oh wow it's 10% better! but I have no idea how they gauged that improvement. And now I bet they are patting themselves on the back and calling it done.
all right I apologize - downtime
[ In Reply To ..]
but I do wish they could figure out how to make SR work better. I think after something has been corrected 5000 times, the program should start to get it.
They dont care if it works better - They arent worried about fixing it.
[ In Reply To ..]
ASR was an excuse to cut our pay. Period.

From The AHDI Website...they Should Tell MQ It's There In Print.
Apr 28, 2010

Speech Recognition Editing   Performing SRT editing successfully requires a somewhat more specialized skillset than that involved in traditional, manual transcription. There is a different eye/ear/brain coordination dynamic at work in SRT editing compared to transcribing, which often makes it more challenging to identify errors in an SRT-draft document. It is more common in SRT editing for the brain to be "tricked" into thinking that the eye has seen what the ear has heard, due to the lac ...
