A fellow MT posted on the Nuance board that she contacted the California Labor Board regarding unpaid labor. I hope this case creates a precedent!
For me, some jobs are so laden with problems half my time is spent researching and correcting dictator errors - for no pay! We are not paid to check email, answer email, train, review of all the documents emailed to us, review changes in procedure, doctor exceptions to the rule, working with tech support, reviewing QA, searchin ...
Are there any medical websites that are like textbooks for dermatology, cardiology, etc. I can't seem to find very much in-depth information on the web. I am trying to pass some on-line transcription tests, but can't seem to find enough detailed information. Any help would be greatly appreciated ...
Does anyone have any really good ENT and dentistry websites to share. I need some good reference websites. Does anyone know of any websites that have word lists that might be a little helpful to a newbie? I plan on getting some specialty word books, but I can not afford them at the present time. Thanks in advance! ...
Meant to post in the word help section. Hopefully it gets moved. Sorry.
I have been a clinic transcriptionist for 14 years in all specialties but have very little hospital experience and no experience with OP notes. I started a new job this week and was asked if I wanted to try hospital/OP notes so I said sure. I figured since my production and accuracy were going to be lower due to the new platform, account specs, dictators, etc., it would be as good a time as ...
Doing all orthopedics now, wondering if there are any seasoned orthopedics MTs that can refer me to some websites that you trust for terminology. Thanks. ...
Hello,
I am becoming disenchanted with the medical transcription profession and how it has become less lucrative (although some may disagree).
I wanted to look into medical coding as an alternative at-home (remote) or in-office job. I was hoping someone could recommend a few good websites that discuss the profession, how to prepare for it, how long training typically takes before you can "launch yourself", how lucrative it could be if you really apply yourself, and so on.
I've hear ...
Do any of you print out the dictation for your clinics and deliver them? If so what do you charge for that, if anything? If you do not, what to you think is a fair charge for this service? My clinic (5-7 providers daily transcribed) is about 2 miles away from my house.
Thank you. ...
The doctor is saying the following ....
Twenty units of Pitocin were administered postpartum. No pocalisis (????) was administered.
I am not sure what the bold word is, it just sounds like this. ...
and then using suprapubic pressure and a slightly "marso smelly bite" hold, the baby's head was easily delivered atraumatically.
Doc says something before marso but it's so garbled, sounds like "altered," but my question is what's in quotes in first sentence. TIA ...
Guess they took over for the stork? My ASR has also taken a holiday from all small words today: is, was, the, and, then, etc. I guess it has been threatened to be more productive also. Just skip half the words and voila -- twice the production.
That gets really tedious hour after hour.
Disclaimer: I am happy to have a job. Do not wish to find another one. Too old for career change. Thank you. ...
I have a shot at picking up a (small) local account. The doctor hasn't called me yet to talk about it, and I have no idea whether he's equipped for digital transmission or not (believe me, I will do my best to talk him into it if he's not).
But... just in case he insists upon pickup and delivery service, how much extra should I tell him that's going to cost? Flat rate? Mileage? How much? (The local phone directory is not clear on where his office actually is located at ...
Just curious if anyone thinks that's a good deal. And ad states "mini" cassette tapes too. I did that 14 years ago and couldn't fathom going through it again. Let alone for $10 per hour -- $20/hr big maybe, but not $10. The driving, the typing, and the time to print +cost of printer ink/toner etc. Doesn't add up to a great profit.
I know money is money, but am I thinking maybe $15 per hour might sound a little better? Just wondering if t ...
Doc says: "Cesarean was done for s/l arrest of dilatation and descent." OB is my worst specialty. I can never figure this stuff out. Does anyone know if arrest of dilatation and descent is right? I googled and found a couple of variations on this, but nothing absolute. Thanks in advance. ...
I don't even really know what the holiday is supposed to be about. I've been an MT for so long, I can't even remember the last time I had the day off on Labor Day. As a result, I haven't really paid attention to, or even cared, about what it's supposed to be. From what I can see, living near a large body of water, it appears that Labor Day is about drinking beer to the point of major intoxication, and then crashing your boat in ...
(e)Study of effects of foreign production on unemployment; report to President and CongressWhenever the Secretary has reason to believe that in any industry under this chapter the competition of foreign producers in United States markets or in markets abroad, or both, has resulted, or is likely to result, in increased unemployment in the United States, he shall undertake an investigation to gain full information with respect to the matter. If he determines such increased unemployment has in fact ...
Recognized as top career choice by US Dept of Labor Statistics, "employment of medical transcriptions is projected to grow faster on average compared to all other occupations through 2014." In addition, with new health care legislation, adding nearly 50 million people to health insurance will definitely increase the demand for more transcribers.
What a crock. ...
to consider MTs are victims of labor trafficking?
And to the obvious comments about no one forcing MTs to keep their positions or don't be a victim... This profession has been demolished by the greed of MTSOs and MTs were not part of the conversation (unless they were small MTSO owners who sold out or AAMT employees who sold us out).
MT has become an abusive and degrading job to have, no longer a profession.

I knew it....I am not a moron.....hiring all these MTs for these accounts, running OOW on a regular work day.....did they think we would all stay busy on Labor Day? I am disgusted and am taking the day off. I ask about being off.......NO. Don't you think that managers could make schedules knowing the work is slow? Let people off if they ask, making sure to have at least 2 MTs on in case some work comes in? That is too easy a fix....let everyone just be OOW and ...
Alerting the Department of Labor has been bandied about regarding the unfair and unjust treatment that MTSOs like to dole out because they think they can get away with it, and we have, in a sense, just rolled over and let them for fear of job loss or being the troublemaker if we spoke up. Perhaps it is time we find out if we have legitimate issues here and maybe something can be done about them, such as:
1. Not being paid for spaces.
2. Not being paid for demographics.
