obstinate doctor refuses to clean up dictation - pighead alert

Posted: May 01, 2015

MTSO suit tries to go to bat for us and asks if he would slow down.  He won't.

Makes you wonder who he is really battling here, as we are just trying to do a good job for him.  I don't understand this mentality at all.  We could save him a future lawsuit perhaps.

Anyone know why they won't change their style?  Why they would dig in their heels in this way?  I have a pat paragraph for his Physical Exam I was artful enough to glean through with a fine-toothed comb one day and get a standard paragraph out of it, which I now insert when he goes to town.

Sick of the riduculousness of this JOB.  Hardly a career anymore.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

When I worked in the hospital doing MT, we had a doc that was politely asked to slow down by the supervisors, but he never did. Can't figure out that mentality either, or why the lack of concern.

That's pretty awesome that your MTSO did that though! - Sleepy

At least they tried...they actually tried! So many out there could give 2, well, you know whats. ;)

maybe he figures it's women's work to clean up after him - patriarchal pig

Too many doctors see themselves as godlike....

So tempted to.... - Linda

make an audio copy, sent it to the patient, and let them deal with the creep. It would show the patient how little their physician really cares about them. I won't do this, but it sure would clean things up if we could!

Why he won't change - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
Going by my experience in similar situations, I would guess that he won't change because there are MTs who don't have a problem with his dictation.

I have never asked, or wanted to ask, anyone to slow down. I have had other MTs ask me to ask doctors to slow down, but the problem was with the MTs.

You aren't going to like this suggestion, but ... you will have better luck with him if you don't focus on wanting him to slow down. You need to train your ears to listen faster.

Bad dictators only change if they are hit in the wallet. - Sleepy

I remember a lickety-split doctor - bornfree

when I worked at the hospital. I was told that someone asked him if he could please dictate more slowly -- so then he told them he was going to go even faster! Never found out if he was kidding or not! Have to hope so. But in any event, he did not change his ways.

lickety split - me too

wow! This sounds exactly like a situation where I used to work in house -- doc was asked to slow down, he said he would just dictate faster --- which he did!!

His MD should be yanked to prevent harm to self and others - Val

What a jerk. Give lots o'blanks. He don't care, why should you? As in the psych industry, you can't care more than the patient does.

What's really bad is the - foreigners who

not only speed up doing parts of their dictation, but seem to revert to their native languages on top of it. I just smile now and leave as many blanks as necessary because I don't give a *expletive deleted* any more.

For one, they don't feel they should have to do it, but - echomt

that's just the tip of the iceberg. They see dictation as redundant and a waste of their valuable time. They view it that way because they are flat out clueless as to the many reasons it is necessary, not the least of which being the fact that they are now the number one cause of death and injury in the U.S. and so everything they do and say needs to be documented in a typewritten format so that it can be scrutinized for accuracy and so that accountability can be assigned when they screw up. They resent that part, and I have come to believe many of them are deliberate in their irresponsible approach to dictation purely out of spite. I have also heard, as no doubt many of you have as well, people commenting in the background during or at the end of the dictation before the dictator hangs up the phone about how fast a dictator is rattling this stuff off only to have the dictator chuckle in a prideful manner as if to take the comment as a compliment of just how smart and adept they are at articulating their vast medical knowledge (barf). In other words, the faster they can rattle it off the smarter they imagine they sound to one another. It's pathetic! There's much more to it, but even just these couple of points are enough to make one sick to their stomach.

Nearly 21 Minute Report Of Another Doctor's Dictation
Jan 01, 2014

I had a long, long report that was filled up mostly with another doctor's dictation, who was sitting nearby going a mile a minute dictating on his patient while my dictating doctor sat quietly thinking.  At least, I guess that's what he was doing, hard to tell, he was so quiet while page after page filled up with the report from another patient.  When my doctor resumed speaking, it was hard to find where his dictation began again.  The actual report turned out ...

My Doctor Accidentally Encrypted His Dictation
Sep 04, 2014

Hi I posted this once but not sure if it went through.  I use Olympus Transcriptoin Kit and can usually transcribe any type of voice file by dragging it into the system.  One of my doctors accidentally encrypted his dictation and now my transcription module asks me for a password to decrypt it.  The problem being of course he doesn't even know how he did that and I am not sure how to get this encrypted from here. I don't think I can do it on my end and to ask him to figu ...

Jan 13, 2010

Wiping Older XP Computer Clean

I have an XP computer that I no longer use.  I have a Vista I am currently using.  The XP had gotten slow, was freezing up constantly, etc.  On Vista, you can wipe the hard drive clean back to its condition when it was new, but I believe you have to have the CD to do this on XP.  Does anyone have any suggestions of how I can start over with the XP if I don't have a CD to do it?  I would like to get the computer hooked back up and have 2 computers.  ...

A "clean Key" 20-gauge Needle Was Inserted

I am new to surgery transcription, and on top of it, the doctor is an ESL.  I am assuming the "clean" part is correct, just can't get the second part.  Sounds like "key".  Thanks for any help.  The skin is marked and the skin is prepped with Betadine, then 1% lidocaine plain is injected into the subcu, then a "clean key" 20-gauge needle, with double tip was utilized. ...

Overheard A Doctor Telling Another Doctor...

20 years ago when the DRG's hit the hospitals, one  was complaing to the other... "they treat doctors like a bunch of old dogs now".  Well, that's how  MTs are being treated now.  Why on God's green earth do the MT services require all MT's to work at least one weekend day every week (Friday's and Monday's  don't count). Every ad I see on the Job Seeker board requires weekends.  Are they sadistic or something.  Why do we put u ...

Do You Ever Wonder How A Doctor (ESL Or Non-ESL) Would
