Has anyone ever rated a doctor's dictation on Yelp? - sm

Posted: Jan 27, 2015

I just heard about this website and am curious if it would help us if we started reporting things like Dr. Smith disgustingly smacks on gum while dictating or Dr. Jones rushes through his ROS and PE findings so fast that he cannot be understood?????

Have you heard about people being sued for - posting on Yelp?

You are not going to change a doctor's dictation regardless. I would never put anything out saying this and that about a doctor, a hospital, nothing. I just keep to myself. When a person says what they think, used to call freedom of speech, well now you can get yourself in trouble, i.e. loss of job, income, food stamps, homelessness. No thanks.

No, I didn't hear of that. - OP

I just heard about the site. I guess I've been living like a mushroom. You make some good points. Thank you.

Freedom of speech - does not mean

[ In Reply To ..]
you can say whatever you want without consequences. Freedom of speech (you can look it up) refers to the fact that the government will not punish you for expressing your opinion. However, it does not mean there are no consequences. You are free to criticize your employer, for example, but you may (and probably will) still face the consequences of your speech because your employer is free to fire you because of it. The right to free speech applies only to government actions with regard to speech.

Duh! Think I conveyed exactly that - in my response- nm

You implied that it is something - new
[ In Reply To ..]
that an employer can hold you responsible for what you say. It has always been true. It is nothing new. You have always been free to say what you want, and you have always been free to experience the consequences of your actions.
Misconstruing what I said or meant - Nothing new, know that

No need for teaching. My statement was that people now will sue for anything, does not have to be much for them to want to take you to court. Been around the block, know what it means but thanks for the "lesson."

About Yelp - Yelper

[ In Reply To ..]
I've been a member of Yelp for years, we mostly leave feedback for restaurants, hotels and other services. I have seen people leave feedback about a doctor's care, but never dictation. Most of us choose our words carefully, yet we are truthful. If the plumber didn't finish the job within budget or on time, we will tell you that, but I've never seen anyone slam anybody. In leaving feedback for a doctor it would more along the lines of a long wait time, rushed through the appointment. If you were to comment on dictation that is not a service he/she provides to the public and Yelp only comments on services/restaurants provided to the public. The next time you're going to a restaurant or a hotel, call it up on line and read the Yelp reviews and you'll see what I mean.

Complaining on Yelp - Bad idea

[ In Reply To ..]
Do not go there. If the doctor's dictation annoys you, send Dr. Smith an e-mail. Contact your manager and express your concerns. Assuming that you work for an MTSO, the manager can contact the facility who can get in touch with the provider. Those are internal matters and nothing to be posted publicly. It's important because it affects the integrity of the report but trust me it is not being done to annoy you, the provider probably is not even aware of the behavior. Very few people read Yelp reviews and if they did nothing would be done about it. I don't understand why you think something like that would help you.

Can you do anything with even complaining - I think not

[ In Reply To ..]
If you work for a company you probably will not get anything done with complaining to them. There are too many companies and if they complained, might lose the account. My company will not stand up for the transcriptionist, learned that some time ago. The best thing to do would be vent to yourself, type it out, fill an entire page, then throw it away because guarantee will not go anywhere and putting it out there could cost you in the long run.

I thought about having an - entire website

devoted to "outing" bad dictators, but ultimately realize like everyone else, there is nothing to be done to help this job any more from bad dictation to low pay. Best bet is to try to get out altogether and never look back.

Bad dictation - Bad idea

[ In Reply To ..]
I did transcription for over 30 years, I do QA now. As far back as I can remember (I've always worked in house), this was a common complaint, always among ourselves, venting our frustration with bad dictators to each other, I think it's just an occupational hazard and why they need us to make sense out of all of it. One of my PCPs was really awful and at one of my office visits I made a little joke about his dictation and he got mad, so I guess some of them are kind of sensitive about it. The only time one of my managers intervened was when we had a doctor who used profanity in his dictation. Sites like Google and Yelp are really places for reviews of businesses and services. Maybe you could start a group on Facebook if you need to vent without mentioning names. I still think it's worth mentioning to management. Instead of losing the account, they might thank you for pointing it out. I've always been fond of using a direct approach, you won't know until you try.

I would be very happy today if someone would smack the doctor I am typing in the back of the head and say SLOW DOWN DUMMY!!  I usually don't mind filling in for someone who is on vacation, but damn I am glad this is NOT one of the providers I normally type.  Do they not understand that they sound mumbled when dictating so fast, not to mention the barely spoken words during the race to get to the next sentence!!  ARRGHH whew k that helped a little!!  I guess sometimes med ...

Nearly 21 Minute Report Of Another Doctor's Dictation
Jan 01, 2014

I had a long, long report that was filled up mostly with another doctor's dictation, who was sitting nearby going a mile a minute dictating on his patient while my dictating doctor sat quietly thinking.  At least, I guess that's what he was doing, hard to tell, he was so quiet while page after page filled up with the report from another patient.  When my doctor resumed speaking, it was hard to find where his dictation began again.  The actual report turned out ...

My Doctor Accidentally Encrypted His Dictation
Sep 04, 2014

Hi I posted this once but not sure if it went through.  I use Olympus Transcriptoin Kit and can usually transcribe any type of voice file by dragging it into the system.  One of my doctors accidentally encrypted his dictation and now my transcription module asks me for a password to decrypt it.  The problem being of course he doesn't even know how he did that and I am not sure how to get this encrypted from here. I don't think I can do it on my end and to ask him to figu ...

Obstinate Doctor Refuses To Clean Up Dictation
May 01, 2015

MTSO suit tries to go to bat for us and asks if he would slow down.  He won't. Makes you wonder who he is really battling here, as we are just trying to do a good job for him.  I don't understand this mentality at all.  We could save him a future lawsuit perhaps. Anyone know why they won't change their style?  Why they would dig in their heels in this way?  I have a pat paragraph for his Physical Exam I was artful enough to glean through with a fine-toot ...

Overheard A Doctor Telling Another Doctor...
Oct 15, 2010

20 years ago when the DRG's hit the hospitals, one  was complaing to the other... "they treat doctors like a bunch of old dogs now".  Well, that's how  MTs are being treated now.  Why on God's green earth do the MT services require all MT's to work at least one weekend day every week (Friday's and Monday's  don't count). Every ad I see on the Job Seeker board requires weekends.  Are they sadistic or something.  Why do we put u ...

I think it is safe to say that we can expect even worse sound quality now that the doctors are using a dictation app. I can say I have already noticed this on my accounts. Do You Ever Wonder How A Doctor (ESL Or Non-ESL) Would
Feb 20, 2010

react if we went in their offices and talked so fast that they couldn't understand what we said, if we ate during our visit, or yawned and continued talking?  I'm just going to wager a guess that they wouldn't appreciate it very much.  Sometimes, I think it would be fun to try just to see their reactions.  There are some that I transcribe that if I ever got the chance to do that I would.  Have an ESL right now that's talking way too fast.  Do they not ...
