Just wondering if there is anyone who works from home and gets paid a salary from where they work? Basically, on their payrole and receive benefits and the same amount of money each week no matter how much or little work you have?

I'm one of the lucky ones. I work from home (not for an MTSO), am paid hourly (regardless of production, downtime, etc.) with great benefits. I worked for MQ for 20+ years...I feel like I've died and gone to Heaven!

Not doing MT. Management, yes. Work harder and - more hours than ever as an MT.

BUT they expect me to fill in all kind of details from the forms the patient fills out instead of dictating it.

I was an IC but finally told them they had to pay the taxes. Turns out that way I also get profit sharing.

Too bad, though, they think when they go EMR later this year they can template everything and eliminate me. It's been a good ride since 1986.

If I were you I would find a way to convince them that they need you with the new EMR....

I don't think all these changes are going to be as smooth as the docs expect. Sure there are good EMR programs outhere, but they are not going to have enough time to do everything, and I really don't think EMR technology is ready for all this.

A hospital I MT'ed for was full EMR - no paper charts anywhere. We still had a full MT staff, and they had a full office staff. Instead of things being put on paper they were just put into the computer, the nurses and MA's walked around with a laptop instead of a chart.

Ok sounds good knowing this actually happens. I currently contract from a company and they are talking about wanting to go to VR (which I really dont think is going to work, with them anyway), ...they said they are going to have more work for me but not much more to pay with some type of healthcare cuts they are forced to make (and therefore forced to go to VR)...so I thought maybe I could do all the work plus more, as long as I am getting a steady pay.

I figure as much money as I am paying now towards estimated taxes, individual health insurance, the fact I have no benefits, and the pay cut I take if its a slow week/vacation, etc. I thought about just seeing if they would pay me salary + benefits, and maybe that would make up for my loss of expenses, and yet save them money at the same time without hassling with the VR crap.

I was just curious if someone else actually did it this way, too, if a company would actually put you on their payroll without being present in their office....as long as the work was being done...

With the way things are going with my company you could almost say I'm getting salary...... more like $7.25 an hour x40 hours!!! The ASR/VR there stinks on my accounts and it seems everyone I know on my account complains, but nothing gets done... ANYWAYS, if our line counts fall below minimum wage they have to pay us that... so for the past few months I've been living off of chicken feed!

That was until the practice went to EMR and they got rid of the transcriptionists. I loved it though. There were days when there was no work because everyone had a meeting or the doctors I worked for were gone and I still got paid without having to do anything. I wish there were more of those types of jobs around.

I currently work in an imaging facility doing transcription of MRI and ultrasounds. I am training to be a coder to do the coding for my company also.
