about how many lines? - radtyper

Can anybody that types radiology tell me how on average about how many lines they do an hour or a day? I am being switched to by the line and have always been paid by the report. Thanks.

I was by the report also, and changed jobs to by the line a few months ago. it took me a while (2 months or so), but I am now up to 250+ lines per hour, and about 2000 lines per day, depending on dictators I get (some are slower than others). This is without any normals...all straight typing. If you use a lot of normals, this could be higher for you. I have made some of my own "normals" in my Instant Text, as I go, so that is helping too. Without working any harder or longer, would you say your paychecks are larger when you are paid by the page or when you are paid by the line?

In other words, if you had a choice, would you rather be paid by the page or the line?

Having done both, I prefer by line. MRI, CT, invasive procedures, etc. are all getting longer and more involved, especially if you type for a teaching hospital with RESIDENTS! They love to hear themselves talk...and try to cover their butts ad nauseum... If you just do plain films, per report is better, but if it's a mix, the longer reports pay off in the long run, in my opinion. Others may disagree.

If that were remotely true, they'd be radio DJs talking body parts like Howard Stern. They are showing the teaching physician they 'get it.' (and they have to get of that picture.) It's the euqivalent of writing a paper on the lecture you just listened to.

I get paid by both. Keep an open mind and do your calculations carefully, both by report and in a batch to compare; otherwise, you might miss a great opportunity. I even had one client who let me switch back to page count instead of line count, as I noticed a pay difference. Each depends on the work, client, and the overall pay for your work.

typing a lot of short x-rays or more longer ones? I have not gotten an actual line count yet but I feel like that there is no way it can be that much when you only type 4 or 5 lines an x-ray.

The amount of lines anon mentions surely must include the whole radiology gamut of xrays, ultrasounds, CTs, MRIs, special procedures, PET scans, mammograms, gastric studies nuclear medicines, heart studies, DEXA scans and whatever else I may have omitted.

I have worked per line and per report. Found the pay per report stands middle ground - by that I mean the 'average' amount they come up per report falls short on actual pay for the longer studies or 'windier' dictators, while making up for it on the normal 5-liner xrays. I also found there happened to always be too much of one and not enough of the other - client's advantage.

I prefer by the line as I do not feel slighted in any way shape or form. I ear what I slug out, they get what they pay for.

Also, if you are typine XXX lines a day with long reports - there is something wrong on YOUR END if you are not typing that same amount with shorter reports, unless, of course, the pulling up and setting up for the report causes unusually long delays. But most systems these days are a pop in, save, and pop out.

How many lines do you average per day - VR and traditional? I know it's been VERY slow lately, but when things are going well, how many lines do you normally get? so I get my offer from MedQuist today after they acquired AllType. In order to qualify for benefits, I have to type 150 lines per hr or do voice recognition editing at 350 per hr. I don't know if I can do this. On a good account, no problem. But ASR on accounts I have been doing are ridiculous, so many random errors, no way you can skim through them. Any body out there that consistently gets these line counts every week without working more than 39 hrs per week ...

how they calculate your lph rate now? Minimum is 100 clph. I'm wondering b/c since they half the speech lines, this does not seem to be your true accurate LPH. For instance if I type 100 in an hour and do 100 speech in the same hour, do they strictly look at that and say your LPH is 200 OR do they say 100 for regular, only 50 for speech, so your LPH is 150? B/c as you see, the later formula makes it appear as if you actually do less when in fact you don't and that is not accurate. I as ...
