I have been asked to transcribe written reports....type the written reports. I have never done this before....what is charged for this type of transcription? I have only charged for transcribing dictated reports.

PLEASE HELP!

Have you seen their writing? I would charge higher than normal prices, as I would be spending time deciphering writing and dictating it for easier transcription.

Prices depend. Get as high as you can get. I get paid 10-11 cpl office work and 12 cpl, etc., for surgery centers, and that is with call-in dictation, although a classmate of mine gets 14 cpl picking up tapes and delivering.

I NEVER tell them what I charge. I always ask them what they are able to pay and then negotiate from there. Reason being is that they might offer you more than what you are charging, but you will never know that because you already told them less. They certainly aren't going to say "oh that's great because I was willing to pay this." Always tell them you would like to know what they have budgeted. Another good reason for this is because if you give too high of a quote and they have someone else come in and charge them one cent per line less, the other person is going to get it. If they offer a certain amount that you know you can work with, then you for sure get the work.

I picked up and delivered the paperwork/completed reports. It got to be a real pain, and I wasn't making much by doing this. I charged $3.00 per page. It made my neck sore, and I could hardly read his writing. Constant up and down with the eyes too; gave me a headache almost every time I tried to do a batch of those reports.

I would charge more now if I was asked. I would probably charge per hour at a flat rate of $25.00. Whatever I could get done at my leisure, I would do and that's about it. You'll see what I mean if you do this and it is handwritten paperwork with multiple pages. It's a different way of transcribing and it's not very user friendly in my opinion.

so you don't have to look down all the time. If you put it right next to your computer screen, you're good to go.

Just thought I would share this. Back in September, I had to go to an Urgent Care Center for a nosebleed. It just wouldn't stop. I finally received the doctor's bill in February. I currently transcribe from home for a local ortho clinic. When they switch to EMR and I can convince them to keep me to transcribe, what is the best way to charge for my work?
