Start getting paperwork documentation in order NOW. Here's hoping you don't need it, but you will be that much further ahead if you do. Even if you're not at risk of being fired, laid off could be possible and you would still need this.
It could be at least 21 days from the time the question arose, before you receive an answer about benefits. If your case is complicated in any way, it will take longer.
Try as hard as you can to save up at least 2, if not 3 or 4 weeks' wages to live on, while this BS goes through the process. I know how difficult that can be, but please try to do so if at all possible.
If you're an IC MT, whether full-time for any MTSO, or a part-time side job, get all your documentation in place. When/if you do become unemployed, you will need all of that information as fast as possible, because any delay in obtaining information will delay your claim even further.
Any type of food stamps/coupon assistance could likely be delayed also, if you're an IC MT who needs your income documented and figured up. Apparently, this can't be computed by whatever chart or method they use to figure in a computer, someone has to do this by hand.
A simple FYI reminder that could save you a lot of time and grief. I'm told that most people get their benefits, unless they've done something specifically wrong to be denied, but it's never a guarantee that you will get it, and you could even be denied a first time and need to appeal.
