The contradiction of full-time IC. - Alice

It seems to me that full-time IC is a contradiction. I mean, in order to really be an IC, per IRS, don't they indicate that you should have more than one client? So, if one client requires full-time, that means you have to work more than full-time in order to keep everyone happy?

Yeah, I know, there's no way to fight it, because there will always be hungry MTs anxious to fill the full-time IC positions. In a perfect world, in my opinion, no MT would be required to agree to full-time status for one company as an IC, with any set schedule.

Yeah, I know, we should all be happy to have any jobs at all and all that, but it seems unfair to me for companies to require a full-time commitment from an IC.

IRS.....Report these companies to the IRS, they cannot "legally" tell anyone what hours or days to work if they are indeed IC status. I too will not conform to this and every company that I apply for asking me to work set days and hours as an IC, I am now reporting to the IRS as not only are they taking advantage of all IC's while lining their own pockets but also they are ripping off the government.
The general rule is that an individual is an independent contractor if (the person for whom the services are performed) has the right to control or direct only the result of the work, and not what will be done and how it will be done or method of accomplishing the result.

What does the IRS do with your report if you never worked for that company? Does the IRS even acknowledge that you reported a company for which you never worked? Have you ever received any feedback after an investigation that began with your report?

Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done.
