Two full-time jobs - anon

Posted: Nov 28, 2011

I was interested in finding out whether anyone else does work two full-time jobs.   I am considering doing this because of how slow my other accounts get sometimes (I know they are overstaffed).  Just wondered how possible it is to do this, both in terms of time and wear and tear on you physicallly transcribing this much.   Anyone who does this that can give me some input or advice??  TIA

2 full-time jobs - MT2

[ In Reply To ..]
I manage to do it. I do work 7 days a week, though, but never past 4 p.m. in the afternoon. However, work has been light on one or the other so the 2 together are still not up to the pay 1 job should be. I am actually going to get a third job now but everyone seems to be sending resumes everywhere at this time (holidays). They are all MT jobs BTW. It would be different if I took a job outside of the house, as those would be real-world circumstances. MT jobs are not real-world circumstances, b/c I have yet to find an MTSO which provides full-time pay/benefits/work in the last 5-10 years. I am sure if I had a full time job out of the house and I had 2 MT jobs I'd be exhausted or overwhelmed. You can do it. A while back a friend got a third MT job and I thought it was a bit much, but she was right. The formla will work 3:1 equals 1 or a bit less than 1 job full-time pay. Good luck to you, and God help us all!

How do you manage not to work after 4 pm? My first job wants me there from 6 to 2 and my second from 2 to 10. When there is work on both jobs, will I just kill myself trying to do that much? They both are also just MTing. When work is slow I can see where this won't be hard and I definitely need to combine to make a full-time check, but when both companies are busy, am I expecting more physically at this job than most people could do? Thanks for any input!

Doing it too - anon2

I'm doing it too - I just started working 2 full time jobs about 2 weeks ago. I work for MQ from 5 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sun - Thurs then for another company from 2 p.m. - 10 p.m. Tues - Sat. This means that I am only working both jobs on the same day Tues, Wed, and Thurs which are 16-hour days for me. I do work 7 days a week but 4 days of the week are only 8-hour days and I can still get my home stuff done on those days and still manage to volunteer at the animal shelter on Monday afternoons. I seriously wondered if I would be able to do it because I'm a single mom too but it's really not as tough as I thought. I'll be paid 5 times in December so maybe I can finally be able to keep a roof over my head without staying awake at night with worry. Medquist alone was NOT cutting it so finding another job was a complete necessity. I am working the same amount of time with my new full time job and making twice the money I make at Medquist - go figure.

You can do it - if I can do it, anyone can.

Thanks for the encouragment! There is no way I can keep trying to make it on one job. $200-$300 per week will not come close, so I am either going to have to quit the job or get another one to supplement. Lord help us all take care of ourselves until we can find something else.

I totally hear you. I've been with Medquist for 14 years and if I had kept all my eggs in that basket I would've gone flat broke.

I've posted on the Medquist forum a few times over the last couple of months about putting my head down on my desk and crying a full-blown ugly cry on paydays because I would have payment arrangements with my apartment office that I couldn't keep. I've only been earning minimum wage (sometimes below it) with Medquist so I finally got to the governmental assistance office and was (VERY thankfully) able to qualify for the full amount of food stamps ($362/mo). Now with my second job hopefully I can dig my way out with my back-due rent. I have to keep my job with Medquist for a bit longer until I'm caught up but I can't tell you how nice it feels to know that I'm not solely dependent on them anymore.

Even if I lost my job with MQ tomorrow what have I really lost? $200 a week and YEARS off my life from being worried sick about barely keeping a roof over my and my son's heads.
you mean $200 a day not week? - really?

You must mean $200 a day and not per week? Or after your costs. If serious, MQ is not the place to be obviously. Think about getting your own accounts? More work, more money, but also more overhead but well worth it.

Trying To Find Part-time Or Full-time Employee Position (hospital/clinic)
Apr 30, 2013

If anyone knows of a hospital, clinic, or large practice offering remote full-time or part-time employee positions, I would really appreciate an email.  I have the sudden need to help support a family member long term (in addition to myself) and really need to find a long-term remote employee position for the stability.  Yes, I watch all the various employment sites and even individual hospital sites, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe someone who works for a hospital that does th ...

MQ Rehire Policy For Part Time To Full Time
Apr 09, 2011

I worked for MQ full time and then went to part time last year, before finally quitting altogether because of health problems. I seem to remember an obscure policy that if you were full time and then went to part time, you could not go back to full time for a period of at least 1 year.  Can anyone verify that for me? IF, and this is a big IF, I were to go back to work for MQ, I would need to be full time. ...

Optiscript Part Time To Full Time
Nov 19, 2011

Does anyone care to share that if you are hired at optiscript part time will they let you change to full time easily? I know they are a small company and do not over hire so I do not know how easily this could be done.  I am thinking of cutting down to part time at my current employee so I can work part time elsewhere and eventually just leave my current employee once I see how the land lays elsewhere.  Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated :) ...

Change From Full- Time To Part- Time.
Sep 10, 2012

I am still debating whether to enroll at Andrews or M-TEC.  My husband is retiring in 2 years and I want to be able to work part-time after that.  Is it realistic to think that I can complete the course at Andrews or M-TEC in 12 months at the most, work full time for a year and then part-time after that.  I would want to be able to work from home.  I guess the other question is "How long after graduating could I expect to earn enough to make it worth the investment, in a reas ...

For those who went full time to part-time with MQ (because you got another job)...how did that work?  Did they approve the schedule you wanted, or did they make you take a schedule?  My CCM told me in my area there is no more flexible part-time available but could do regular 24 hour part-time...she said she would have to approve my schedule if and when I do this.  I may be doing two part-time jobs to start and I am trying to figure out how to do my scheduling around both jobs.    Does a ...

The Contradiction Of Full-time IC.
Jan 19, 2010

It seems to me that full-time IC is a contradiction.  I mean, in order to really be an IC, per IRS, don't they indicate that you should have more than one client?  So, if one client requires full-time, that means you have to work more than full-time in order to keep everyone happy?  Yeah, I know, there's no way to fight it, because there will always be hungry MTs anxious to fill the full-time IC positions.  In a perfect world, in my opinion, no MT would be required ...
