Just saw this article and was thinking maybe I could swing a part time gig at one of these places and do transcription the rest of the time and thought I'd share....

Most of these companies look as if they would be retail sales and I doubt if anyone in retail is hiring now unless you wanted something temporary during the holidays; even then it might be questionable. Whole Food Market is only located in certain cities. UPS has cut it US workforce considerably but you might get a call center job with them. Starbucks would probably be a barista job. Lands End is mail order and again that would probably be a call center job, JP Morgan Chase would be the same thing. These are all good companies but I'm questioning the employment outlook with any of them, considering the way things are right now. Good luck regardless, hopefully you'll find something that's a good fit, you won't know unless you try.

To me it sounded as if they were considering trying to work at one of those companies, sorry if I misunderstood.

of the article, it seems things are not rosy for most of those jobs. One company is even going to stop offering benefits next year.

Most of the comments stated that, at minimum wage, they can't afford the insurace AND they usually don't get enough hours a week to even qualify.

With this new healthcare reform, does this mean that outsourcing companies are going to have to provide health insurance to MTs? Even though you may be an independent contractor, you still work for the company. This is my first VR job. I cannot make enough lines to qualify for health insurance on it. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. I could easily exceed my line count with a straight typing job. The only way I could meet line count now is if I blaze through the jobs without proofreading and put out bad-quality jobs. I just recently got MQ health insurance. I was wondering how it works since it is just a HSA and not a PPO or HMO. Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit?? I thought all insurance companies had us pay a copay, not the whole cost of the office visit.
