Second-Shift MTs - See Message

I was just curious if there is any correalation between working 2nd shift and being unable to get to sleep at night? I have been having trouble sleeping lately and wondering if it could be due to the fact that I have been staying on later typing? Wondering if its making it harder for me to sleep because its taking so long for my brain to unwind?
Anyone else have this problem? Advice appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same problem. Can't wind down until about 2 a.m. Then wake up at 6 a.m and can't get back to sleep!! Grr!!

watch an hour of TV and hit the sack and always sleep well. I'm usually up by 6, and my pre work routine includes at least an hour of vigorous exercise and leaving the house for that daily as well as an hour for my musical hobby. I always try to take a short (10 to 15 minutes only) nap before work to keep from falling asleep at the wheel, and try to avoid caffeine after my first hour of work.
Are you drinking tea or soda with caffeine during work? Also the exercise and having a very strict, (almost compulsive) work routine is a must for me.

I don't get enough exercise though and my work routine somewhat varies because I make my own hours, but lately I have been typing later in the evenings on one of my jobs (2 flexible IC jobs) because the work has not been coming in until later (after 4 pm). I don't do a full 8 hours, but I do anywhere between 2 to 6 hours depending on how any lines I need. I've found myself doing that more with the holidays and thought it might be the reason I couldn't sleep. So I have been trying not to type past 10 pm (only recently, as in this past week) to see if that helps with the insomnia.
I have suffered with insomnia off and on for years and it does not take much to throw my sleep pattern off, 1 night of no sleep can lead to weeks of insomnia for me. I can be super tired and eyes feel like they've got sand in them and still cant fall asleep. It doesn't take much to throw my circadian rhythm off. Thanks for your response.

That used to happen to me. I would get off work around 9 or 10 and stay up until 1 or 2, feeling like I needed to unwind. I was constantly tired, needing to sleep until 9 am to get enough sleep and never making it.
I had to force myself to go to bed earlier. Now I get off at 9 and am in bed by 10 or 10:30 at the latest. I used to stay up and watch movies or TV, but that kept me up. Now I just read for a little while and go to bed and I sleep better, getting more sleep than I used to. No TV or anything that is too stimulating. Hope this helps.

I do sleep with the TV on, but I typically don't watch it. I have to have that background noise. I am guilty of playing around on my laptop once in bed, but that's typically not too exciting and I seldom stumble across anything on the internet interesting enough to keep up all night, but I suppose its still stimulating.
My husband takes his meds at 9 pm and is dead sleep by 9:30 am and up with the birds at 6 am. I so envy him for that. My doctor prescribed me sleeping pills, but I am afraid to take them, as I have read some real horror stories about them.

I read somewhere that the actual light that emits off the computer is very stimulating, even if you don't realize it. Ditto for a TV, but that's generally farther away.
I do know that I cannot sleep if the TV is on, particularly if the room is dark. All that blinking of the light or dark on the screen just goes right through my eyelids and drives me nuts.
Soft music with soft lighting helps me doze off.
A big fat sleeping pill does it for me about 30 minutes before quitting time. - nm
