TransTech shift - trtmt

If you work a split shift, what are your hours and how is it working for you? I'm thinking of going that route but I'm not 100% sure.

doesn't matter how you do it, there is no work.
What difference does it make what your shift is? - Old and Tired MT

I end up having to work at least a couple hours on one of my days off every week just to make up lines, so what difference does it make when your shift is? All I ever see are emails about "flexing" and "jumping on" on my days off so as long as you are available for them 24/7, why worry about a shift?
If you start your split shift in the morning, there won't be any work - sm

If you work afternoon to evening, it is hit and miss. I work second shift and have run out of work frequently; however, this week I actually had work! Yippy! But the account I am on is so horrible with VR that I end up re-typing half the report. So, I am making about 9 bucks an hour. Yippy! Not sure if this is TT's fault but I am outta here and off to school to move on to better things.

I recognize we all don't like the peaks and valleys.
I worked in a hospital they wanted it to reduce costs, and did so by using VR. I did not like it at all, but I can produce more. I moved to TT and like the fact they keep jobs in the USA.
As far as work, it̢۪s there if you are willing to have a backup account. Quite frankly I take advantage to spend time with my kids if there is a lull, which I have come to realize, is for any company. Amazingly it happens in the summer since there are 3 holidays. I know there are additional slowdowns, but I plan for it. Being a single mom, I just like the fact I can work from home and have decent benefits.
I had 4 different accounts and still had no work, so your backup theory doesn't - apply to everyone, sm

I could never produce more on their VR as the ESLs are so terrible even the VR doesn't understand them. When you spend 5-10 minutes correcting mistakes in a document that VR couldn't understand, then you're losing money, not producing more. Not having work on my scheduled hours and not being able to produce more lines than I needed to make a living (the 1500 line minimum isn't going to pay my bills at the line rate they offer) is the reason I gave up this job. Hey the perks of working at home also come with drawbacks. No one is paying my internet bill or my electricity for the time spent working in my home. Also, if you use TT's own computer, you have to rent it. Yes, it is nice to work at home, but the rewards have become increasingly less than if I had just gone out and done a job in a different location (not to mention the fact some days I just feel tied to my house because that's what working at home life is all about, waiting on work to come so you can make some money (a far cry different then going to a company, putting in your time and then being done with it). Your personal life does change when you are working at home. My attitude has changed working at home and this situation with NJA constantly. It's a lot of stress to try to make money on production and juggle a life. JMO
Any other on call employee is paid, but not MT - Old and Tired MT

If you sign on for your regular shift and there is no work, you are expected to "check back" every 10-15 minutes just in case something pops up that needs to be done yesterday, so you can't go anywhere, go outside to mow your lawn, etc. Any other type of employee who is on call gets paid, but not the lowly MT.
I noticed an email the other day where MTs who had no work earlier on a certain account - see message
[ In Reply To ..]
Were being TOLD (not asked) to sign back on as there was work available now. I'm not on this account but I remember reading the email and shaking my head, wondering just why these MTs who had no work during their shift should drop everything and jump on at a moment's notice. My goodness, it's as if even when their shift was over with, they're still expected to be chained to the computer for when work does come in. I think it was more the being told as opposed as asked to get on and work that I found annoying; if the MTs had no PTO and wanted to jump on to earn a few bucks, that's fine, but for those who called it a day when their shift had no work, I don't think it's fair to expect them to rearrange their evening when their "work day" was over. JMO, of course, but it just doesn't seem fair to expect employees to be available at a moment's notice long after their workless shift is over.
My backup account is so atrocious that I despise having work on it - TTer2
[ In Reply To ..]
My primary runs out of work 2-3 shifts a week and my first backup account isn't too terrible...when there's work on it. However, my secondary backup account is so horrendous I'd rather go unpaid or take PTO than work on it. Too many quirks, multiple physicians with the same name who never say which department they're associated with, dictators who are too "busy" to input correct patient information so simply enter all 9's for the medical record number, etc., and then mutilate the patient's name so you can't understand it to try to do a search by patient's name. I could go on and on but, yeah, they can keep this backup account. By the time I waste 4 hours on it to make MAYBE $20, I'd rather just sign off and work on my IC position, which pays much better, is straight transcription, and is hassle-free.
Backup accounts are fine if there is actually work on them, but when one of your backup accounts is enough to make me, an MT with 10+ years of experience, shudder at the thought of working on it, I'd rather lose that paltry 4.5 cpl than risk being terminated for a HIPAA violation because I picked the wrong "Dr. Doe" out of the 10 with that identical name.
I used to be one of TT's most vocal cheerleaders. Now I'm probably one of their more skeptical employees. There's a reason this work is drying up and I don't necessarily think it's due to overhiring.
No work once again - Old and Tired MT

I worked a whole hour last night and then no work for the rest of the night. This is getting really old. I, too, have nothing but horrible ESLs and the hospitalists are the worst of all-- can't even pronounce words or make a simple sentence that makes any sense. I used to really love doing MT but hate the horrible VR wreck and everything that goes with it. Wish I could afford to actually retire.

The same old tired excuses, the holiday (Memorial Day which was almost a month ago), school is letting out (whatever that has to do with anything), and the usual excuses.

Since when did it become the norm for these HMI directors become afraid of the doctors? Back in the day, a good strong MR-then director would keep these idiots in line. Now they expect us to do all their dirty work. If I wanted to be a maid, I'd work at Merry Maids. Don't get paid enough to clean up crap.
I recently applied with TransTech for a part-time Oncology position and was made an offer. Anyone here work for TT doing oncology? Is there plenty of work? Lots of ESLs? Percentage of VR to straight typing? I'll be talking to the recruiter in a couple of days. Thanks for your help! ...
I've been offered an in-house MT position that I am not passing up. It is night shift 10 pm to 6 am. I've never worked a night shift ever. How should I transition into working nights? Anyone have any tips for working this shift? ...
Thinking of going back FT and quitting my current day job, but it isn't always easy to get on days. (I know the work flow tends to be spread out a little thinner day shift.) ...
Saw the ad elsewhere. Are these companies nuts?! I hope nobody takes that pay. That's equivalent to 1 cpl as an employee with benes FOR QA WORK! I get so frustrated reading some of these ads with such horrible pay. ...
I was wondering if it's really worth it to work the 3rd shift? Does the additional CPL really make that much of a difference. Does the workload stay steadier during that time? I've been offered a 3rd shift part-time job, but just don't know if it's worth revamping my entire day to work this late. Would anybody working this shift let me know how it works out as far as sleep, daytime errands, etc.? ...
I see job ads for First Shift, Second Shift, etc., and modified shifts, and I am not sure exactly what periods of time these are.
I figure they are specific hours of the day - like day, swing, graveyard shifts - but what are the hours, generally?
I have only worked as an IC with TAT. I am considering applying for some of the employee status jobs but need to clarify what these shifts are.
Thank you. ...
I thought I just got booted but logged back in no jobs will load so this means OOW.. already.. I just logged on for my shift.. NOT GOOD AND NOT HAPPY!!!! I believe I am in the South region. ...
Would anyone happen to know which company has a 2nd shift besides MModal or Nuance? I see a lot of ads for 1st or 3rd, but due to family obligations I need 2nd shift. Straight typing or speech - MT or QA (have done both). Thanks so much for pointing me in the right direction. ...
Has anyone applied for these jobs? She has had the ad for quite some time I see up there. Does anyone know the name of the company? I am looking for something part time, but don't know if I should even bother. ...
Totally unhappy with current company, but do love my shift. Most jobs advertised are for 2nd and 3rd shift. Anyone know of companies that would hire for very early morning or possible split shifts? Too old at this time to think about trying night shift, but could do some evenings. Don't mind weekends at all.
Any info helpful. TIA ...
I was just curious if there is any correalation between working 2nd shift and being unable to get to sleep at night? I have been having trouble sleeping lately and wondering if it could be due to the fact that I have been staying on later typing? Wondering if its making it harder for me to sleep because its taking so long for my brain to unwind?
Anyone else have this problem? Advice appreciated. Thanks!

About 1/3 of those 100% QA reports were done by ILPs. Total average earnings per hour: a little over 4 $, but I will be paid at my state's minimum wage. Before my in-house hospital job was outsourced to an MTSO that kept the work in the country for 2 years and then sent it to India, I was being paid 19 $ an hour and also had great benefits and PTO. When did this "profession" turn into a minimum wage job ? (actually, half of minimum wage if ...
As I am getting no work during the day shift anymore, I have the chance to go third shift Sun-Thursday (11-7), either that or find a new job (yeh right), or do ASR (done it at this company, no thanks to returning there). I have never worked that one before. How/when do you sleep? Any other pros/cons about this shift? Thaniks your your advice. ...
I have been working third shift for about three months and am still having some trouble getting used to it. My question is do you work your shift then go to sleep or do you stay up until later in the afternoon and then sleep until your shift starts. I work a 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. and am trying to find the best way to be able to stay awake during my shift. I do not drink coffee. I have tried some of those energy drinks that are sugar free, which helped some, just now wond ...
many of us will be reassigned to 2nd or 3rd shift. If you are assigned and do not comply, you will be considered as having resigned. Hmm... sounds like a way to lay off/fire people in a way they won't be eligible for unemployment. Can't get unemployment for quitting (resigned)! CCM says we have trouble with going out of TAT during 2nd & 3rd shift, mostly on the weekend. Hmm.... I work 2nd shift and I have barely had any work from the primaries - mostly helper accounts and even had ...
I'm considering taking a 3rd shift job, which I've never done before. Any suggestions on making the transition to working 3rd shift from days, staying awake without depending on too much caffiene, getting enough sleep during the day, etc. I also have a puppy that will be at home with me during the day and am wondering if he needs to stay up with me at night so he will sleep during the day also. I would appreciate any and all advice. TIA. ...
Getting bonus incentive would be nice, but at this point just having any work at all would be a welcome change. Haven't had any jobs my entire shift plus ran out on my last shift. Geez.....I hate incentive weekends. Is anyone else having the same problem? ...
Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone who works or has worked third shift in the past could share with me any advice they might have.
I have always worked first shift, but I have been offered a really terrific position working third shift on the weekends, and I am finding myself wanting to give it a try. I know it would be a difficult transition at first, and I would need to focus on taking good care of myself.
If anyone has any advice, I would so greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advanc ...
Have been fortunate and always worked first shift (weekends included). Now it looks like those are hard to come by and may have to take a 2nd shift or third shift. Once you do, is it easy to get on days in a year or two with most companies or are you locked in for life? ...
So sorry for the rant, but I am so tired of companies wanting us all to cover third shift, but don't want to pay anything extra when we do and if they do it's something like a quarter of a penny, what in the world is that? I know I shouldn't complain, but this shift is HARD to work, especially when you have little ones. Just a little frustrated tonight, and I know there are people who have it worse than I do, but I don't have anywhere else to vent.
Thanks ...
I think MQ, Spheris, Transcend care more about that you are working your shift than any errors. I was so so tired (cause I"m moving) yesterday, I couldnt keep my eyes open and had to take an hour break to sleep. When I came back to work, they dug up all kinds of stupid errors I did just to show me who the boss is. They all do it. It keeps you in line. ...
