They only hire for 2nd shift and that is to do the leftover, picked-through work from 1st shift. There is no way to make good money going this, though they give you a month to get up to 135 lph, which at 8.5 cpl is a whopping 11.48/hour. During training, on the 2nd evening of work, this is how I got treated, getting the worst of the work. I do not get any job satisfaction in doing others' leftover work; it makes me feel like a janitor or second-rate citizen. I do not have to go to this company to get treated like this; there are others that do the same -- preferentially give the better work to others and have a "clean-up crew" to do the dregs. I just feel like I have a sign on me that says "Kick Me" because I cannot find a transcription job that treats me fairly.

There is no such thing as fair treatment for MTs today, we are no longer considered "medical professionals" by the money-grubbing, management-heavy companies that now control patient information. Sad day for all, being reduced to "typists" and "editors" instead of well-educated, well-trained empolyees/slaves.

It's sad but true- most of us can't get enough lines, even YUCK lines. I'm just trying to look on the up side. I think every company has cherry pickers and they should get the ole heave ho if you ask me!! Sorry you are stuck with the awful work - but for myself having been running out of work for weeks/months - at least it's lines.

Work is work. A good MT can do any type of work if working on it long enough. I have been an MT for 30 years and you have to do what you get. Life is not fair. There will always be cherry-pickers but work is work.

Before everyone goes off and hits me on this post please remember this is MY OPINION and we are all intitled to one. I have been with Softscript for 3 months now. Yes, had to take 2nd shift to start, was told that as 1st shift becomes available, and after 6 months I can request a shift change (dream land maybe, we'll see) but I see that as fair, if it is indeed true. Put in your time, 6 months, and 1 reward is 1st shift. As far as lines, I always make my quota every day, the accounts I have I love, once in a blue moon I run out of work, grab something to munch, tend to family, and HELLO, there's work again. As far as money, I am now making up to 200 per pay period MORE than I was at previous company. Again this is MY OPINION and please dont' bash for it, just sayin.....

Does that make you feel better, saying that you "feel like a janitor" or part of a "clean-up crew"? Get off your high horse. Those janitors are often hard working and do a good job, and are grateful for slobs like you because it means they have work. The others are right, hard work is better than no work.

WTF is going on? I am no longer an MT, but I still care about a lot of people who are still TRYING to work at the Q. Just popped over to mtjobs and the Q has an ad on there for MTs wishing to embark on a world class....etc. It's unacceptable that the Q doesn't let anyone know what is going on at the MT level, starve out all the experienced ones they "acquired," then offshore to Inida and hire a bunch of newbies. I want to work a part time job to supplement my other part time job at Nuance because sometimes there is no work. I see an opening at TTS but when reviewing posts about TTS it sounds like a bad place to work with incompetent recruiters and managers. It seems 95% of the posts are bad regarding TTS. some part-timers anyway, why not offer weekends to part-timers and offer some Mon-Fri shifts for the experienced full-time MTs you're trying to get..... That's about the only way you're going to get many experienced quality MTs. And there are always plenty of MTs looking for part-time weekend work as a 2nd job. ...

The ad they have placed here indicates wanting 40 people for new accounts, etc. However, I just received an email about job openings for only 2 very heavy ESL 1-9 shifts. Is this just a scam so that employers don't have to pay benefits and employer taxes? I bet if there was an audit, most ICs and MTSOs would be in trouble for using that classification improperly, especially for the full-time positions. I even applied for a full-time secretarial job in a small law office recently, and was told I would be hired as a contractor with no benefits. I was stunned and declined. I see ads for Medtrans all over the internet for all different cities and you go to their website and it seems they are pushing you to take their course and then they will hire you. I am just confused because I keep seeing the companies advertise for months, yet they seem to say "no" a lot. I am surprised to see the job ad for TransTech on the Job Board here...I thought they didn't have enough work. There are two ads actually, one for acute care, the other for oncology.
