Patient Medical Records Online is making news on NBC Sunday at 11 - Fingers - see message

I have seen where our local news station in Richmond, VA is going to be covering a news story about patient medical records online on Sunday at 11:00 p.m. The actual story caption advertised is: "Patient Medical Records Online - What Happens Will Make You Sick."

Oh yeah, it's about time. I know not everyone will have this on NBC but you can access this story afterwards on the NBC Channel 12 website. It will be interesting to see how this is covered and whether or not the story gets bigger. I do not know what their sources are for this segment. I am hoping that the number of jobs being offshored will also be a hot topic as well as any new legislation regarding this. I am also hoping that MTs will have info to submit to the reporters and station covering this topic. Richmond is the largest city next to Washington. Now is the time ladies!!!!! The ball is rolling on the news. The news is pretty much dead right now except the snow in the south east and the Olympics. Channel 12 VERY VERY OFTEN does followup stories. Go to their website. Please share your experiences, agreements, and disagreements with their story. They welcome comments on their website. Let them know what really goes on. We want follow ups to our plight as well as attention from legislators and congress.

This is the only actual news coverage I have seen on television covering this lately. We don't want to miss a chance to be heard.

Great- I will check out the web site and will definitely give some input. It is about time someone is willing to listen to what really goes on, as no one knows better than the people actully trying to make a living in this particular profession - the real truth needs to be exposed.

They were discussing the easy chances for identity theft and your credit score. I do hope it is more than that.

But do not forget - Be careful when you give out your name, contact info. Be careful giving out names of companies (unless you do not care) and definitely be careful about giving out client names. That could get ugly.

A local hospital is hiring a medical records tech. For experience, all they ask is basic computer experience, knowledge of medical terminology, and a h.s. diploma. Hmmmmm...I've had the terminology certificate for a year, plus a completion certificate for MT and several specialty certs, and I passed the RMT exam. I would advise EVERYONE to get a copy of their medical records and view them. I had to get copies from my PCP (cost me $15.00, but worth it), and I found soooo many mistakes. Some I know were the MT's, but most were the doctor's mistakes. For instance, they had under my family history in the last year of mother having diabetes. What is electronic medical records? Goodwill is teaching a 3 month class starting soon. I have heard about a government mandated thing that doctors have to go electronic by Jan. 2014, but not much more than that. I know someone could shed some light. With HIPAA regulations tightening on who can get a carbon copy of a patient's medical record, MTs should NOT have the responsibility of sending any carbon copies at all. I don't see much talk about EMR taking over the MTs job. This has happened to me with my last three companies (small transcription companies) that I have worked for. I have heard and read that Obama is really pushing the EMR, and by the year 2014, he wants all hospitals/clinics to implement this or else be taxed. He also is supposed to be offering grants and incentives if they do also. The family practice I go to is using this. The doctor asks questions and constantly inputs into his PC tablet as we speak. Its not looking good for the MT field. Anyone else worried?
