Is EMR the same as voice reconigition?
no - voice recognition is an entity

all on its own. EMR is "electronic medical records" with the medical records, usually point and click by the doctors or nurses, being inserted directly into the electronic version of the patient record. Most of it is automatic and the transcriptionist is not used much anymore for this type of application. Very few areas for "narrative" reporting any longer.
EMR does not equal point and click - EMR simply means electronic med rec

Yes, there is a lot of point and click out there, but EMR does not equal point and click. All EMR means is electronic medical records.
I have 2 jobs - one is straight typing into an EMR and the other is mostly VR into an EMR that also has some component of point and click (EPIC to be precise).
Please, please stop equating EMR with point and click and transcription-less work. It's not the case.
It has been, in my experience - so please do not equate

your experience to mine. I have lost 6 accounts in the past six months to the point and click EMR systems. One was already in an EMR platform and was fine with it. Then they got new EMR software and the work dried up within two weeks. The account was lost. All others that I have lost over the past year have also been to the point and click systems of EMR. There may be those out there that still use narrative from transcriptionists, but not all, and even those are going by the wayside. Don't think your job is secure, because it is not. As soon as the offices realize the EMR system can easily do what the transcriptionist does and they do not have to pay that much anymore, the transcriptionist is gone, gone, gone! I am happy you have not had that experience ... yet.... but my experience has been just the opposite! You will see soon enough!
All I was saying is that EMR does not equal - point and click

That's all. I don't deny that point and click is gettig rid of transcription. I got laid off 2 years ago because of a huge hospital account going to point and click.
All EMR does not equal point and click though. That's my only point.
Thanks to EPIC - Texan

Lost my clinic job of 12 years to Epic. - anon

They had 5 MTs and decided with Epic they only needed 2.
Just lost a cardiology account to EMR - MomOfFive

And their EMR is not just point-and-click; however, the administration told the doctors that if they wanted narrative, they would have to type it themselves. My particular account did their dictations in letter form, 2-3 pages each report. I know the docs won't want to type their own stuff, so they will probably just do point-and-click, which is disappointing because these cardiology docs are very thorough in their reports and have caught silent diseases in their patients that the patient was completely unaware of, along with the patient's PCP. EMR unfortunately is knocking out a lot of our jobs, and in the end it will be to the detriment of the patient as I guarantee the records will not be a thorough and complete as a narrative report is. :(

Electronic Medical Records Came In And We Were Immediately Out Of A Job Jul 26, 2012I don't see much talk about EMR taking over the MTs job. This has happened to me with my last three companies (small transcription companies) that I have worked for. With my last job we had an account with a large hospital that had a cardiology group we transcribed for. EMR came in and we were immediately out of a job. Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience...pretty much sucks ...

Obama Is Really Pushing Electronic Medical Records Jul 30, 2011I have heard and read that Obama is really pushing the EMR, and by the year 2014, he wants all hospitals/clinics to implement this or else be taxed. He also is supposed to be offering grants and incentives if they do also. So any hospital or physician office that doesn't will be taxed more and will not get incentives, grants, etc. So I think most will try it cause they don't want more taxes and want the incentives, etc. So where does that leave us? If you work for a hospital, what ...

Electronic Medical Records Will Be Forced Onto Doctors Aug 03, 2012The family practice I go to is using this. The doctor asks questions and constantly inputs into his PC tablet as we speak. Its not looking good for the MT field. Anyone else worried? I worked on a project transferring hospital charts from Legacy to Epic. Future Of MT's With New Electronic Records Apr 28, 2010To: Current MTs
I am considering entering the medical transcription field. I am trying to evaluate the pros and cons of this business to see if it will be a good fit for me. If anyone has reactions to the following statements/concerns, I will be glad to hear them.

Electronic Medical Record Jan 14, 2015I have been corrected by QA twice on this one. The first time it was changed to capitals (Electronic Medical Record), so I started typing it that way. However, recently I had it changed to lower case (electronic medical record). Both times the sentence was the same... "Detailed in the electronic medical record." Hospital Medical Records Department Nov 14, 2009With HIPAA regulations tightening on who can get a carbon copy of a patient's medical record, MTs should NOT have the responsibility of sending any carbon copies at all. Question About HIPPA And Medical Records Apr 15, 2011My husband's father had a brain tumor many years ago (back when I first started dating him) and had surgery.
