New minimum wage increases for 2015 - does this affect MT

Just curious about this as the new increases in some states are more than what a lot of MTs make hourly, i.e. Seattle, Washington, $15.00 an hour. This won't affect me personally, but I wonder how MTSOs will be handling this situation.
If an employee is paid on production but is an employee and not an IC, if she lives in Washington or another state where minimum wage is higher than what she is producing, how does an MTSO handle this?

[ In Reply To ..]In 2015, the minimum wage in WA State will be $9.47 an hour. The last time I checked, Seattle was a city, not a state. The $15.00 an hour applies to the City of Sea-Tac near Seattle and was approved by the voters. It does not apply to everyone state wide and only to certain jobs in the service industry. Employers in Seattle set their own wages for MT. If any on-site MTs remain, their employer decides what they are paid, there is no guaranteed wage. Services still pay by line at a set rate. The minimum wage may affect you if you have down time but I don't know if you would get paid your state's minimum wage or the federal minimum, you would need to ask your MTSO.

I was, however, making the assumption it was for the state, which given more thought would not make sense because in rural areas the cost of living would be much lower than in a major city.
I just saw a quick news story this morning and was pleasantly surprised by the many increases in minimum wage being made in many states (20-something I believe). What I didn't know is if laws apply in our business based on where an MT lives rather than where the company she works for is based as well as laws with production based employees.

[ In Reply To ..]There may be exclusions for restaurant workers who are paid tips, or some state may have other exemptions based on age, etc., but for the most part, it applies to most employees in the state where they live, no matter where the employer is located.

[ In Reply To ..]Sorry, I didn't mean to sound condescending, but you'd be surprised how many people think that Seattle is the only city in Washington State and that it rains all the time when in fact the state is separated by a mountain range and the other side gets very little rainfall, is cold and snowy in the winter and dry and hot in the summer. My thought on the wage issue is that the federal minimum wage should apply to make it fair for everyone and easier for the services even though it is less than some states. I hated working on production pay and it would be better yet to pay everyone an hourly wage.

It is to bad that the federal wage is not the highest standard for everyone so there would be no discrimination by State wage.

If I do not earn enough, the MTSO I work for has to pay make-up pay for the difference. They do not like doing that and let you know that it is a reason for termination.

A $15.00 minimum wage would equate to 375 lines per hour at .04 per line. That's 3000 lines a day for an 8 hour day! The best I have ever done was 2700 lines editing in an 8 hour day and that was only once and someplace where I had been doing the same doctors for 6 years. I have heard in various places on these boards that if you are supposed to work full-time and your pay (by the line or character) doesn't equal minimum wage for those hours, you can get unemployment even though you still have a job. On a post below about SGS, an MT states that she is being paid minimum wage. She states she had to 'fight' for it, however, they are paying her minimum wage on the accounts where she is scheduled, and expected, to sit in front of her computer when there is very little work.
