Matching hospital info on files - Frustrated

I have been an MT for a very long time. I remember when MTSOs first came about, we were not really required to make sure specific work types went to specific folders or do all of the hospital specifics such as that. We sent our work to our MTSO and it was someone elses responsibility to make sure it found its right place in the hospital chart.

Today, the MTSO that I work for deducts THREE points off of your score if you mismatch something in the database, so if you do this, you automatically fail and hav a score of 97%, even if you produced a perfect report. It is so frustrating, I mean shouldn't this be done by someone who actually works AT the hospital or can focus on primarily hospital/chart/patient information? I mean, I don't know that Dr. Smith covered for Dr. Jones this weekend, so while I would never think he would work ENT, he happened to this weekend. If a person IN the hospital was responsible for this sort of thing, they would certainly know.

Anyone else have difficulties with this, or is it just me? Thanks for listening.

I had the same thing happen to me. I finally had to drop the account, as I was being threatened by all the "mistakes" I was making. Not one mistake with the dictation, but I got the cc wrong or didn't follow format when the dictating physician didn't dictate in format style. No matter what I did, it was wrong and the e-mails about it, you would have thought I committed murder. I finally gave up and just went to one account and will have to make due with that. The money dropped, but I am not in total panic every time I open up my e-mail. Again, this stuff, that we don't get paid for, should be done by the clerks. I think that is why I kept messing up, I totally resent working for free. I so wanted to say that, but didn't, just have to let it go. It is awful anymore.

reports are sent electronically and it is extremely important they be correct - it can be not only quite complicated to fix but can lead to inappropriate disclosure of PHI if its wrong and there are big fines in some cases and those fines can come back to the MT if she/he failed to follow protocols.

They should have a DESIGNATED person in charge of making sure it is done properly, NOT requiring MTs to spend tedious time on it, in which they are getting paid. Nobody was asking the "process" or asking if they use paper files anymore, we aren't idiots, the complaint is spending so much time and getting criticized for something that it would seem a person could be designated to do.

Totally agree 100%; well said. These doctors think we are their secretaries and should automatically know these things. I live in Nevada and I am supposed to know who and where things are in Michigan! Yeah right! AND, no pay to boot. Someone posted we work about 25% of our time for free. I don't think I work that much, but probably 5-10% and that is still too much.

I agree that it is important, and it is true that cc's being sent to the wrong provider is a HIPAA violation. At my facility, I am the person who researches provider names and addresses (in addition to doing QA on the transcription) when the reports return from the MTSO. They flag anything that they do not know and it is our job to fix it. Are you a mind reader? How do you know that the "doctor thinks you should automatically know these things." My guess is that the doctor doesn't think of you at all. He wants his work done but probably doesn't give it another thought.
