After being without insurance since losing my job, I decided to see what's to offer online for someone with a spouse with pre-existing condition. Two minutes after getting online quotes, I started getting phone calls. The phone has been ringing off the hook all afternoon. I hate this. I can barely afford insurance anyway, but we do need it.

Did you know there are 'associations' that are now bunching different health insurance companies into a database and they can get you fantastic insurance for a ridiculously low price but you have to join the association for a mere $_____ amount? No limit on doctor or hospital choice, no deductible except for ER care, and 70% coverage on everything.

All i keep thinking is....if it's too good to be true, it probably is.

This is why I didn't want to even start looking.

of 1 year. At that rate, DH will be 3 months away from Medicare, so after all this crap, no sense in even signing up for anything and we'll just have to take our chances.

BTW, got my messages from my answering machine this morning and there were 3 others wanting to give me health insurance. Sure is a good profit-making business.

Read carefully before going through associations. When you read the fine print, most only offer "discounts" that add up to nothing. I just went through this with my husband losing our COBRA. You can get COBRA coverage if you respond right away, which is the best way to go. HIPAA coverage is even more expensive, or you can get your own accounts and hire your husband, getting group coverage if you can bear working with your husband 30 hours per week.

With this new healthcare reform, does this mean that outsourcing companies are going to have to provide health insurance to MTs? Even though you may be an independent contractor, you still work for the company. This is my first VR job. I cannot make enough lines to qualify for health insurance on it. This is the first time I have ever had this problem. I could easily exceed my line count with a straight typing job. The only way I could meet line count now is if I blaze through the jobs without proofreading and put out bad-quality jobs. I just recently got MQ health insurance. I was wondering how it works since it is just a HSA and not a PPO or HMO. Please correct me if I am wrong, but from what I have heard this insurance plan (BC/BS?) does not cover primary care office visits until you reach a 2500 dollar deductible, no copay anymore, paying for the whole visit??
