Most hospitals these days do outsource to MTSOs don't they? - I thought they did

In a not really so related question, isn't Jackson, TN a depressed area right now? Aren't they having severe economic problems? It's possible that their hospital is having trouble as well as just wanting to outsource to MTSOs.
Oddly every hospital I've worked at has had a backup MTSO - Curious

I'd never really thought much about it, but every hospital I've worked at (200+ beds) has usually had an assortment of former MTs lined up to work from home or have signed a deal with the devil (MQ) to provide backup services.
I'd never really given it much thought before but, yeah. The last hospital I worked for had MQ lined up to provide backup services after usual hours (3rd shift) and holidays/weekends. The last hospital I worked for that contracted with them was about 6-7 years ago, though. My most recent in-house experience had a series of gals from K-Force that they privately contracted with to do the overflow, though, no Q.
They do seem to manage to insinuate their sweaty hands into every little cookie jar they can find, don't they?
Hospitals do this because they do not want - anon

to pay benefits. Most of the time the benefits equal or are more than the hourly wage, plus the hospital does not have to provide their own equipment and also need less space. The benefits really do amount to quite a bit per hour per employee, less than it costs to outsource everything.
So wouldnt you think, if theyre saving all that overhead - by using an MTSO, it wouldnt - sm

be so imperative that they get it done at rock-bottom rates, that they'd be willing to settle for the slipshod quality of so many of the big MTSOs?
And of course, the MTSOs have helped to make that happen by getting into bidding wars, thus forcing themselves to chop employee benefits and pay, in order to continue to make their big bucks.
GREED, GREED, GREED.
I think hospitals got much better quality work done when they kept an in-house MT department, and only used the MTSO for overflow work, thus being able to use higher-quality, smaller MTSOs.
Once again, the McMTSO's have shot everyone, including themselves, in the foot.
LOSERS.
take it one step further --- imagine the savings (sm) - willworkforfood

if they just did away with the MTSOs and hired MTs direct to work at home on production....
They could pay out less per line and we'd still be makine more per line - not to mention no hanky-panky with the lines counts.
why, I might even respect myself again! Imagine that....
The surgeon is doing an appendectomy and says "the appendix and (s/l) "Jackson's nail" were swollen.... has anyone heard of Jackson's nail or is it something else? Any help greatly appreciated! ...
I have taken a new job to transcribe for a hospital in Canada. What are the differences? Can you post (or email me) links for websites that you use for references - looking up doctors, meds, etc. Is the spelling different? ...

Does anyone currently work for or have in the past worked for DTSOK (Digital Transcription Systems of Oklahoma) who could shed some light on this company good or bad? I see they are hiring for several acute care positions, but there is not very much information in the archives about them one way or the other, unlike some of the MTSOs. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks! ...
I saw a post on here from a few days ago and just had to ask is this really for an inhouse job? I thought they did away with inhouse jobs. the post did say $15 an hour. Maybe we can hope that will be our pay in the compensation package?? I know that is a far fetch but one can only hope that there is some relief coming. ...
I was just laid off last Thursday. For MTs that live in the State of Tennessee and have recently gotten laid off, how hard did you find it to filling out that log sheet to prove that you are looking for a job while drawing UE benefits. I noted that one has to log in that log sheet 3 different companies that they are actually looking for work weekly. There are only so many online MT jobs that one could contact. I noted they mention job fairs, private employmen ...
Spheris parent — now HQed in Franklin — files for IPO
By Erin Lawley Posted on October 20, 2010 at 8:17 am
Middle Tennessee soon will have another locally based public company — though its “localness” may come as a surprise.
CBaySystems Holdings — whose MedQuist subsidiary purchased Franklin-based Spheris out of bankruptcy for $116 million earlier this year — has filed for a $115 million initial public offering and listed Spheris’ Carothers Par ...
Can anyone who current works for or have worked for in the past give me any info on Volunteer Transcription out of Johnson City, Tennessee. Please feel free to E-mail me if you prefer.
Any info would greatly be appreciated, in particular pay issues, work load, communication. They seem really nice, but I just got that "sinking feeling."

He is talking about a SLAP tear repair, but I'm never comfortable with typing OPs, and this isn't something that I've heard of before. My Ortho book AND my surgical equipment book seem to have just walked off! I'm in tears because I can't STAND this doc! Help!!! ...

Just curious if anyone has a remote (long-distance) position with a hospital. If so, did you have to work inhouse initially before being able to go home or not?
My last employer (the current one MTSO I work for stinks so bad I don't even consider them an employer!) was a hospital that was part of a chain. Of 50 MTs, there was one in Canada, one in Mexico, and one in China. However, I'm fairy certain that they were Americans who lived locally and then subsequently mov ...
Why can they not get this hospital to fix this? The only place I notice it is the OR dictations, so that narrows it down doesn't it? And today, is the worst I have heard it in a while.. ...
Okay, so halfway out of curiosity, I applied to my local hospital, which is a large regional hospital, for an MT job. They wanted a "seasoned" MT with CMT, who transcribes 250 lines an hour. Okay, I thought, they might actually compensate better than I think since they have well-defined high standards. WRONG! They are offering $11.35 AN HOUR! What a slap in the face! You get a whole extra dollar if you work 2nd shift. What an insult--they just have ...
Hi everyone!
I have been doing MT from home for about 20 years now. I have been offered a position at a local hospital doing MT on a per diem basis. Can anyone give me an idea of what kind of pay to expect? Thank you. ...
Thanks to everyone who responded and I did call on this job but it was an evening job 3-11 so even though it was 18 bucks an hour that does not work for me have children at home...so back to looking into the MTSO companies and finding the best one out there - if anyone has suggestions let me know ...
Was laid off in April. Have a couple offers from transcription companies, and one from a clinic which is part of a huge school/hospital system in our area, (which actually is through a temp agency). There are only 2 full-time NP's and a handlful of part-time NP's. The hospital job is a 45-minute drive, 1-way, in light traffic. Pay to start is $13, but if this temp goes to permanent, potential is much greater. The clinic is open M-F, 8-4, closed holidays.&n ...
Started getting these clinic notes from a hospital definitely not in my region and dictators are not giving out any correct information as to attending or medical record #'s. what to do when the subjective info on vital signs cannot even be understood at all. I PRIDE myself on quality work, and have been here at Q for 18 years. I already took pay cuts, and don't know what to do as QA sup and CCM are not answering, nor is MQMail updated at all. I am sure they are ...
Have been informed that the hospital where I work inhouse is switching to voice. Has anyone ever been an employee where this happened? Is there usually enough work for everyone or have there been layoffs? ...
Does anybody out there work at home for a hospital, not a transcription company. How do they handle the running out of work situation - do they expect you to use your PTO or take it without pay. Are they more flexible with scheduling - I was hoping for some place that might say you have to work 8 hours a day anytime between say 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Do they still pay by the line, and less for speech recognition? ...
Been doing this at home for 15+ years and going for a job interview to work p.r.n. for a local hospital. Not sure of the details as of yet but if anyone out there has any input from their own experience on what exactly being an in-house p.r.n. transcriptionist is all about, please share. Pros, cons, how the scheduling works, etc. Thanks! :) ...
Does anyone know what a hospital sitter gets paid and what qualifications they need? Maybe this would be a good thing to get into as we lose more and more opportunities in the MT field. ...
