I can't find a 2nd shift position - Desperate

Posted: Jan 31, 2013

It cannot be this difficult to find a 2nd shift position where the company supplies the equipment. I have 18 years of acute care and clinic transcription experience, yet cannot find a job. I suppose it is a sign of the times in this field. I remember the days when I could open the paper and see job posting after job posting for transcriptionists. Now there is nothing out there any place. I have searched the job boards here as well and am finding more and more IC positions. I prefer to work for a company that supplies the computer, but it is looking like I may have to go IC just to have a job. I have taken placement tests and passed, but then never get a call back. Am I the only one? Has anyone else run into this problem as well? All I want is to get back to work, but I am losing hope.

try Precyse - 2nd shift

I don't think they advertise here. I'm not sure if they provide equipment or not, but they are looking for 2nd shift.

Most no longer provide computer, just a foot pedal. - anon

I work for both MModal and Nuance and neither provided a computer. I think those days are pretty much over. However, if you have your own computer getting second shift is easy, that's what they are mostly looking for.

Synernet and Diskriter but provide equipment, but not - sure if hiring nowNM

I don't know if you have any local hospitals, but when they hire it's usually for 2nd or 3 - 3rd shift. sm

I recently hired on with a hospital (in no danger of outsourcing) for 2nd shift with 1 weekend day and they supplied all equipment. Everyone has to work a weekend day, so there's no unfairness there. But in general I've found that when hospitals hire they usually post for 2nd and 3rd shift because most people want days, so when those open up they post it internal first and then fill whatever shift is left. The hospital I hired on with wasn't advertising, but I called them and asked for the transcription manager. She had me come in and do a couple test dictations and she was so impressed that she made room for me. If you have any local hospitals, I'd encourage contacting them even if they don't post a job. Just make yourself known. Mine is 1.5 hours from my home, but I only had to drive it for a week of training and then they sent me home with equipment.

IC Position Specifying Shift Work
Oct 08, 2013

Hey all.  I just posted for a job that advertised as IC, but in the posting had a statement that 2nd or 3rd shift work only.  It seems like a job that I would really like, but it just gets so under my skin when they don't follow the rules for IC...so I sent this. "I am very interested in the position that I saw on MTStas.com for the IC Medical Transcriptionist.  You can see from my resume the details of my experience and education.  I just have a question about the open ...

How Do You Know When Its Time To Find A New MT Position?
May 19, 2015

Can anybody tell me how they decided when it was time to start looking for a new MT position? I mean really, they all seem to be bad but how do you know that what you already have won't be the lesser of 2 evils? How do you know they won't treat you worse and you make even less pay with a different company? I guess its the old fear of the unknown. I am sick of my job but experience has taught me that it probably would be worse somewhere else. I haven't seen it go the other ...

Trying To Find Part-time Or Full-time Employee Position (hospital/clinic)
Apr 30, 2013

If anyone knows of a hospital, clinic, or large practice offering remote full-time or part-time employee positions, I would really appreciate an email.  I have the sudden need to help support a family member long term (in addition to myself) and really need to find a long-term remote employee position for the stability.  Yes, I watch all the various employment sites and even individual hospital sites, but I was hoping that maybe, just maybe someone who works for a hospital that does th ...

To Those Doing The MT/MME Position
Jan 15, 2010

I know from previous posts on here that that job isn't the big thing MQ was making it out to be (horrible editing pay, etc).  BUT...do you guys at least have work to do, whether it is typing or editing?  I am just an MT and I run out of work daily.  If I had become an MME as well, would I have at least been making a little money, or are you guys running out of work too, no matter what? Thanks. ...

Does This Put Me In A Bad Position?
Jan 06, 2011

I just wrote a very long post, but decided to minimalize it because I feel very on edge with my company and I'm doing the absolute best I can. If you know the hospital that hired your company is not happy with the work that is being produced, and you are able to see glaring errors in other people's work, would you say something to management or keep it to yourself? This is MY job too, and if the errors continue I am afraid the hospital will go elsewhere, meaning my job is gone as wel ...

MME Position
Apr 03, 2012

Are there any MMEs out there who regret having become an MME? And if you become an MME, are you able to go back to just MT status if you decide you do not like it? Did you see a significant increase in pay, a slight increase, no increase at all, or did you actually lose money? Thanks. ...

Does This Sound Like An IC Position To You?
Jan 26, 2010

The following nasty gram was sent to all independent contractors from the company owner.  I'm just curious to know . . . how many ICs treated like this? Hi everyone - I wanted to touch base with all of you immediately, as we have a very serious problem.  Aside from a very few MTs who have notified us in advance that they would be out, we have many MTs who are not working their agreed upon shift and it has put us in a serious hole.  If there is work in your pool for the physi ...

Considering A Position With KeyStrokes

Considering a position with KeyStrokes.  However, I'm wondering how QA is with grammar the stuff.  I'm getting QA'd to death where I'm at now.  I'll change things according to how QA says it should be, but the next time it's still not right.......one time it's use a semi-colon, next time it's put in a comma, next time it's start a whole new sentence, etc., etc.  I'm pulling my hair out!  I'm getting so tired of changing things only t ...

Need Some Advice About A Position
Jun 08, 2010

I need some advice about a position that I am being offered.  It is an IC position.  They want Tu-Sat or Sun-Thurs and 1500 lines per day.  This is supposedly 70% VR and the rest is straight typing.  I know that techniqually they aren't supposed to require weekend work and line requirements for IC, but how is the best way to negotiate this and still get the job?  I hate the job that I am currently doing and don't make enough money at it.  I usually do work ...
