Does anyone work for a hospital and have production based pay? - Kay

Posted: Aug 13, 2011

THe hospital I work for is going to production based pay from hourly pay.  They have not told us yet what the pay per line will be.  Can anyone give me an idea of what the pay is per line for lines typed and lines edited.   I am concerned about taking a pay cut.  Thanks.

We make an hourly wage (ranging from $13 to $20), and then anything over 12,000 lines per pay period earns 0.005 (5 cents) per line. The incentive is only paid if quality standards are achieved (98%....and they're thinking of increasing that to 99%). It's a good system. Also, the providers are weighted in the system, so if you type difficult dielects, you may earn 175% or even 200% of the base line count. If an h&P is 80 lines, you would get credit for 160 lines if the provider was weighted at 200%. It works the same with editing. We get credit, on average, for 75% of the line count, and if it's a weighted provider, you get that percentage added back on. So I didn't notice any change in pay since we've brought VR on board. What made it so successful, however, was the way the transcriptionists were included in all of the decision making right from the beginning. I remember commenting on this site how nervous I was, but it's been almost 2 years and I couldn't be happier. Hope this helps.

How did you find a hospital hiring remote? NM - looking for sanctuary.

I trained on site at the hospital for about 2 months in order to learn the software and different work types. We do all dictation, including nuclear medicine, cardiac caths, radiology plus the regular acute care dictation. We are like a well-oiled machine in that we had intensive training on editing the voice rec reports. Everyone must be on the same page as far as editing consistently or else the VR will never 'learn' accurately. This is why I don't think the services will be able to keep up with the hospitals, who can pay handsome benefits packages plus decent hourly salaries and even incentives. It will be interesting to see how many suits will be lost when the big services have to start downsizing (they will have to do this to free up some money to hire/keep qualified transcriptionists to train the VR systems). I can't wait until the shoe is on the other foot...but I digress :)
oh, I agree with you totally. I have been - looking for sanctuary

I have been looking for this type of situation but find it hard to find. Before MTSO-ing, I worked remote for a local hospital, but when they went VR, they cut us loose, all but 2. I had great benefits and made great money. Hospitals don't "TWEEK" the line counts, and OMG - they said please and thank you!

I really miss the real world of transcription at home.

What voice recognition software do you use? I use Escription and they told us there was no way to weight the dictators so I was curious. Thanks.

Also use Escription and were just told there is - Olive

no weighting.

That's about how - my hospital works

We have a certain minimum LPH we have to reach and then there is another step we have to reach in order to receive incentive. After that, we get 8 cents per line. Easy dictators are not weighted, hard ones are. OP notes are all weighted.

Absolutely - Me MT

I am a hospital employee, work from home over 300 miles from the hospital. I get paid by production only, but get good benefits and the pay is good if you work hard. I love it.

Is Coding Hourly Or Production Based?

Hospital Job Paid On Production. I Can't Make Any Money
Jan 29, 2014

When did hospital jobs get almost as bad as working for a service?  When I have had hospital MT jobs before, we were either paid hourly, or hourly base pay plus incentive.  It was possible to make $22 to $25 an hour. I have also worked on production for a service and for myself and I can usually do 200 lph very easily, 250 lph if I'm concentrating, 300-350 lph if I'm concentrating and getting good dictation (that I'm familiar with and know what they are going to say ...

Frustrated With The BOS 3rd Edition Being Web-based!
Dec 30, 2009

The pdf electronic version of BOS-2 was so handy and easy to use.  Wonder what made them decide to do away with that & make it to where you have to open a browser, find the link, sign in, find the BOS page, etc., for the 3rd edition.  It's so much more time-consuming, not to mention the search feature doesn't work nearly as well as the BOS-2 pdf version.  For the first time ever, I can't wait for the 4th edition because surely nobody likes this & they will g ...

Is Focus Infomatics Really US-based Now?
Jan 29, 2010

A former manager of mine from "brand X MTSO" (in reality, a very dear friend now) got thrown under the bus.  She knows how "QBay" does.  She is considering an MT or QA job for Focus Infomatics.  Focus claims to not offshore, and has offered my friend 8 cpl.  That sounds terribly lame wage wise for all that experience. When I couldn't drink the MQ Kool-Aid anymore, I was making a whopping 9 cpl.  Of course, try doing the math on that formula come payday.   Jus ...
