Why do these companies keep hiring - longtimemt

I started a job part time last week, doing 2 days a week and have been out of work 2 of the 4 days I was supposed to work and was told to flex my hours. I have a full time job and it is very difficult to flex for a part time job. Why do these companies hire if there is actually no work? I am already at a point where I want to leave. I work because I have to, not because I have idle time on my hand to flex in order to get work and end up putting in time on 3-4 different days to get my hours instead of my scheduled 2 days.

They could care less about us MTs. As long as they are in TAT, they are good to go.

It's about turnaround time but it is also about knowing how to manage staffing. I don't work for any of them, but at those big places (like N), it seems that the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing. They hire for one account, but may not know what is happening with other accounts, whether work is low, etc. I'm not saying this happens all the time, but I'm guessing that there are times when people don't work their scheduled hours and flex because of low work or personal reasons, then others run out of work. Something that I've wondered about is when they acquire new accounts and also acquire the MTs, how there can be enough work to go around when existing employees are running out of work. I don't know if they care about MTs, but of course they care about turn around time, they need to keep their clients happy. Working on site, I can say that we were always expected to meet turnaround time due to JCAHO requirements, so that the billing could be done and various other reasons, so I totally get that. This was never a job where we could get our work done in somebody else's time frame. So, while I think giving people flexibility in their hours is great, I think it can also mess up the work flow. Strict schedules are difficult to enforce, especially when people are in their homes. The OP is not able to flex but there is no work for her when she is able to work, that is not fair.

I had to take a second job that was not in the field of transcription last year to cover some expenses. The job I had in particular was hard but it was nice getting out to work with other human beings, even if a few of them were the usual kind you run to in any workplace that isn't your home. Maybe you could try that.

are offering bonuses again. I would expect at some point with supply and demand a lot of MTs including me will either get out of the business or go PT or retire and there will be less people looking for jobs. Just a thought. Because the synopsis of their ads are, We want: 2nd and 3rd shift only......availability when it is not your shift.....weekends......holidays.....99% accuracy......no benefits.....no vacation......no sick time....able to handle garbage dictation.....years of experience......strict schedules even for ICs.....ability to change your shift without notice.......2 hour testing required.......AND DO NOT EVEN TELL YOU WHAT THE PAY IS, only later to find out it is 6 cpl typing, 4 cpl VR. I have 25 years of experience and am looking for P/T work on eScription. I have an Expert Certification in EditScript and am a fast and accurate editor. It's sad to see all of the same transcription companies on the job boards hiring, and it seems by reading the boards none of them are worth working for. WTF is going on? I am no longer an MT, but I still care about a lot of people who are still TRYING to work at the Q. I see an opening at TTS but when reviewing posts about TTS it sounds like a bad place to work with incompetent recruiters and managers. It seems 95% of the posts are bad regarding TTS. some part-timers anyway, why not offer weekends to part-timers and offer some Mon-Fri shifts for the experienced full-time MTs you're trying to get..... That's about the only way you're going to get many experienced quality MTs. And there are always plenty of MTs looking for part-time weekend work as a 2nd job. ...

Is this just a scam so that employers don't have to pay benefits and employer taxes? I bet if there was an audit, most ICs and MTSOs would be in trouble for using that classification improperly, especially for the full-time positions. I even applied for a full-time secretarial job in a small law office recently, and was told I would be hired as a contractor with no benefits. I was stunned and declined.
