VA Hospital background check is horrible! - mte

You must be fingerprinted and tell them what you've been doing since the day you were born. Whoever said it is just a cursory background check was lying to us.

of hearing a thing or two that might be considered sensitive information. I'm guessing from what I've seen/heard details are generally left out, but I'm sure it's just standard to do the background check in case someone slips.

What they pay works out to 10 bucks an hour. Its not like we are applying for work at the CIA. It is pages and pages of questionnaire and then you must go the police station to be fingerprinted. Too much invasion of my privacy for 10 bucks an hour.

You're typing reports on the military. Personal information is provided like their SS number and where they are stationed. For security reasons applicants have to be screened. I'm sure it is a requirement placed on them by the government. If I needed a job I'd provide the information, provided I had nothing to hide.

Is this a position directly for the VA? Years ago I did some transcription for VA hospitals but it was through an MT company... no background check. I also did an intership (not MT related) at a VA - may have been a background check/fingerprinting but can't remember now.

pretty low.. 16 to 20, okay... I've been trying to calculate what I am making a hour (with 90% VR) and it looks like anywhere from 9 to 18... average of about 14. there are some low days but at least always the chance of making more.

I didn't see it as a big deal - it's just filling out a more indepth job application. :) Evidently a lot of people screwed up filling it out and got them back....if basic instructions can't be followed on a form, that is pretty sad. Besides, look at it this way, if you get the background check, you never have to do it again. :)

Actually, if you work for a subcontractor for the government you may have to have a security check every few years. This is from experience folks. I'm afraid it is just a requirement for the government. It doesn't take that long and personally I don't know why everyone is so upset.

I did think it was kind of funny a few weeks ago when a company hiring here advertised something to the effect that it was just a cursory check. It seemed pretty in depth to me. It was also difficult because it was hard to remember just what date I became friends with someone. I thought that advertisement was a little misleading.

I was wondering about what on a background check would prohibit one from getting a job as a coder at a hospital. I know the obvious, but what about a misdemeanor DUI from the late 1980s on an otherwise clean-as-a-whistle record with someone who has great credit to boot? Would that be a deal breaker? The applicant would have the preferred credentials in place and would otherwise be a good candidate. ...

OMG, what a horrible time I'm having. This pay I'm not even averaging my minimum. All around the country again. What happened to lock down? I thought I sent 2 reports to QA but forgot to mark the QA box. Not my fault for the blanks but according to what I've been told, if we just can't understand the dictator, we have to send it to QA. I know there are a lot of comments on here about M-modal being horrible and I have to definitely agreed, it is the only VR I have used so nothing to really compare it to but cannot do many more lines per hour than I transcribe (usually about 275 lph or so), anyone willing to share how much they do on M-modal and how long the account has been on VR? Just my curiosity since I don't seem to make any progress in increasing my lines per hour. Thanks in advance. ...

Hey everybody, I just needed to vent a little bit. I started my first day on my first job, and it went absolutely horrible. I was using the Emdat InScribe platform, which seems easy enough, but they have sooo many templates that the doctor should be using and isn't. My first few reports were okay, but then everything went downhill. I'm supposed to use the templates, but half the time, I had to erase 3/4 of them because it wasn't what he was saying. I would just like to say that Nuance is ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE! If you are thinking about working for this company, DON'T! Second, I was wondering if anyone knows who I can call about my pay check. Since I got laid off from Webmedx in September I've been on unemployment. I tried to work for Alltype and couldn't do it. Let me preface this by saying that I know that ultimately this is what we're here for, to train the systems to understand every dictator. With that being said, has anyone else noticed that some of the dictators who have been purely straight transcription for years (while all of their colleagues are on speech wreck) are now on speech as well? These are doctors that without several paragraphs stored in your expander program, there is no way you could understand what they are say ...
