What does this mean? What the heck ? Why do they let us waste our time on testing when you get this:

Before anyone asks or make comments, I have been transcribing for almost 2 decades, the reports were not hard, could not hear dictator in one because of screaming child that was playing nearby when they were dictating.

I got an e-mail like this too, but that was after I had already spoken with a lady on the phone. I had admitted to her that I wasn't crazy about voice recognition and that acute care wasn't my best field, then later I tried to apply and take the test so I don't get it but I figured it had to do with voice recognition.

I have been through the same thing. I applied at a company and they had a group conference call which I attended and it took 20 minutes to get that set up with everyone. Then she went on and on only about the demographics, nothing about the work, pay, schedule, only the demo graphics and then gave us a test! Yep a test on the demographics. I got the same canned e-mail; not worded exactly like yours, but pretty close to it, thanks, but no thanks. I wanted to scream. I could have kicked myself for even staying through that stupid call. I have applied, where they sound like they want to hire me on the spot and after 10 back and forth attempted phone calls, it slips through the cracks; or, I have been notified by e-mail and I guess I didn't answer fast enough, because by the time I did, the job was filled. Believe me I could go on and on. It is a bugger finding anything anymore and I am just hanging by a thread with the two companies that I work for now and they aren't the greatest, but a lot better than most. Good luck!

If a new MT out of school applied, then I think testing would be appropriate. If you have an experienced MT with documented references and extensive work experience, then I think testing is just wasting the MTs time, ESPECIALLY since it does not guarantee the job! I have taken tests and received an email saying they had already filled the position, but would keep my test on file. I mean really? Why should I have even been asked to sit and waste MY time taking this test?

If you get a job in the "real world" just say as a nurse. They check references and work history and they hire you. They don't have you come in and take a medical terminology test, practice medication administration, put in IVs, etc.

It is CRAZY what these people get away with and yea, I have a bad taste in my mouth from what the industry has become!

I also think testing for experienced MTs is ridiculous. They can tell by the written test and how fast you finished it whether you are experienced or not. I have over 30 years and I will not go to a company that asks me to test again. I realize there are transcriptionists who have been working for a long time and still have problems with terminology but I am not one of them and I do not want to get thrown in with the pack. MTSOs and HR need to get a handle on this.

Thanks for the responses,I'm just praying now that I can hang on until I find another job I can survive on, planning on looking into schooling, was going to do transcription until I retired, now I'm just heartbroken and trying to figure out what occupation to get into.

Just wondering what those of you who have chosen to leave the MT field entirely and go into some other business have found to do when you've been doing MT for 30 years? I have been turned down by 3 different MT companies stating it is because of California's laws creating problems. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a way around it? The AA accidentally replied back to the owner on that same email chain and forgot to delete my name so it was sent to me too, stating she was "ticked off" that I quit, that they had done "so much for me" and basically that it was my fault because I didn't communicate to them that I didn't have enough work.
