turned it down - you can have it

Posted: Mar 11, 2014

Life is too short to spend hours every day flipping through pages to see if it is a 123.9 or a 674.4b.  Dont want to spend my time applying sticky notes on the edges of the pages. Coders I know hate it and don't recommend it, too much hassle, grindingly boring.  So whoever gets my chance by default, love and luck to you always.

I think I'm turning it down too - anon

When I first read the email, it seemed promising and it could be and I wish those luck who are going to pursue it. However, for me, it seems a bit risky of a gamble. I know I'll be taking a bit of a pay cut from my benefit rate over what I can produce production and that 3 months of training with the 20 hours a week will financially impact my family. Then not being sure what the CAP apprentice program might pay makes me not sure if it would be financially feasible. I'm sure the benefits in the long-term will be great ones, but for the short-term paying bills for me it doesn't seem workable. I do like the accounts I'm on right now and I do like my schedule. I'd hate to be thrown back into the pot so to speak if I fail out of the coder program. Like I said above though, good luck to those who want to pursue it! I hope it is a good experience!

Yeah, kind of the same conundrum I am in - anon

I really can't afford to make my benefit amount for 3 months.

My bigger concern is what the pay will be at the end of the training and apprenticeship. I am afraid of it being less than I make as an MT.

Then there is the fear that the MT jobs are going quickly and the opportunity for on-the-job training may not come around again.

Yeesh, no clue what I will do. I am going to take the test and burn the bridge later if I pass.

I don't want to freak anyone out - but is there

A chance of more lay-offs? That's something to consider when thinking in terms of whether or not to take the test.
Thought about that. - anon

Last year, about this same time, they pushed the MME test. I took it thinking that it might be wise. A couple of months later there was that rather large lay-off. For me that is in the back of my mind, thus the reason I am taking the test.
Smart thinking. - nm

i think if you dont take the test you will be out of a job - probably all MT will go to India

until it dies all the way
Nah, they're mainly testing tier 2's anyway. This is - sm

not how they do it. If they want rid of us all, they have no problem happily saying, "You're laid off!" They don't need a bunch of testing for that. This is just a try to grab and undermine the entire coding industry like they did ours in my opinion. We'll keep having MT as long as doctors are dictating, until they all switch to using only EMR anyway.
um yeah exactly. they are switching over to EMR every day - faster than you think
[ In Reply To ..]
why do you think they are doing coding?
That wasn't the point. The point was that this test is not to weed out for layoffs. - nm

Oh, I think it's pretty much inevitable - anon

Anytime businesses "restructure" there is almost always a major cut of its work force. It's one of a business' biggest, and easiest, expenses to cut. I think for those of us who stay behind, we'd better brace ourselves and I'm not just talking about MTs/MMEs, I'm talking about TSMs and QCs also. This coding course and offer was probably the one and only life raft they're going to throw out before the big cut comes.

Sounds like typical MM tactic. Get the ones that dont bother - to worry about pay before SM

they get into the program. Those are the kinds of employees MM loves, sheeple. Do what you are told, dont ask questions and be happy eating hay and living in a barn.

coding - oldtimer

Hmm, do you people realize that coding is hard - I took the CPC exam a few months ago and it is a 5 hour 40 minute exam. With ICD-10 coming out it will be even more challenging. I am up for it. It is not all flipping through pages and marking with sticky notes. New coding programs are coming out all the time and mostly you have to verify with that physician coded to make sure it is correct. To me, it sounds interesting.

Turned In My Notice
Aug 18, 2010

I finally turned in my notice. I actually starting leaving abt 4 mos ago.  Took a PT gig w/another company and just love it. I had gotten to the point that I hated to come to work. I found that I did not hate my job I hated the company that I worked for. My husband told me to stop complaining and find something else and I did.  I went fulltime w/this company and am already making $4/hour more than I was at MQ and get this doing ASR....I hated ASR w/MQ. Turned In My Notice...
Aug 30, 2011

I've said this before w/in the last week, but again, I never bashed my former employers on here until the last few weeks.  I've been "owned" by MQ for awhile since they bought my previous (wonderful) employer maybe a year ago, and I've finally had it.  So excited to leave, but wishing those of you who are sticking it out the best.  If you're going to be nasty, don't even bother.  I've had enough life sucked out of me to argue w/ you.  Again, ...

What Have You Turned To Once Leaving MT
Jun 25, 2014

Just wondering what those of you who have chosen to leave the MT field entirely and go into some other business have found to do when you've been doing MT for 30 years?  I'm not asking you to tell me which company/field specifically (not looking to swipe your job, etc.) but just wanted to see what else is out there that one of us has found easy to transition to, etc.  My goal was to quit MT and start making custom-made cat furniture/trees but that has gotten put on the back b ...

Turned Down For MT Because I Live In CA
Apr 22, 2015

I have been turned down by 3 different MT companies stating it is because of California's laws creating problems. Anyone else having this problem? Is there a way around it? Since most MT companies are not in CA, I find this extremely disturbing. Since I cannot seem to meet the minimum lph (working at Nuance), I have been looking for independent contractor work. ...

Jun 14, 2014

sent it to the owner of the company and cc'd her admin asst, who hired me.  The AA accidentally replied back to the owner on that same email chain and forgot to delete my name so it was sent to me too, stating she was "ticked off" that I quit, that they had done "so much for me" and basically that it was my fault because I didn't communicate to them that I didn't have enough work.  Mind you, we had discussed this via email 3 weeks prior, that I wasn't making enough ...
