Transcription Week days only - Kat

Posted: Feb 25, 2013

I'm looking for some transcription company that only make you work week days or nites, closed on weekends.  I know there are some out there, would you email me me who some of them are please?

Thats one of the reasons I do not use this board too often. The majority of people who lurk on here to answer are scarcastic pessimists. I have been in the business for 20 years and I know there are some out there and just thought I'd see if I could get someone to remind me of them. I do appreciate your answer. Thanks for being one of the decent people on this board. For the rest of them, they can wallow in their pitty. Thanks again. ~ :)
Well, you can't really completely blame the "sarcastic MT" - MT2long
[ In Reply To ..]
The industry has taken a nosedive and you have MTs on here with 30 years of experience who have had cut in pay, cut in lines AND are being REQUIRED to sit and "babysit" a computer Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday with no exceptions. There are constant threads with MTs talking about they don't know why they can't at least rotate weekends, get one full weekend off a month or something, rather than their work scheduling inhibiting every single weekend, making family time or event planning near impossible.

Then, you put a message on the board with people having no idea about your history, your experience or anything and you just ask for someone to email you the company name of a Monday through Friday gig. There are people who dig and research and spend hours testing at various companies who are looking for that exact same thing and never find it. So, I am sure the "sarcasm" comes a little from the angle of "If I have to work weekends, why would you feel like you do not, and why would I help YOU find a job where you can have weekends off."

I think the industry has made us ALL grouchy to an extent for sure.
Well then why have a board to ask questions if everyone is grouchy - KAT
[ In Reply To ..]
That is a poor excuse. Just because we are all in bad situations, that gives everyone the right to treat their fellow MTs with sarcasm and meanness? Maybe that gives you a reason to do it, but I chose to hold my head high and not stoop to the industry's standards. Just because the companies are treating us bad, we should start slitting each other's throats and chewing each other's faces off.....great attitude exactly. That will help each and every one of your fellow MTs in their time of need. Oh yeah, you arent trying to help anyone cuz you've been treated badly. I guess I didnt realize, I thought that was what this board is about.....helping other MTs who have questions.
You're hardly endearing yourself with your attitude. I suggested you sm - on the weekends
[ In Reply To ..]
try to find clinic work as they generally do not work on weekends, the other poster suggested Nuance, so you got TWO nonsarcastic answers. I don't know how long you have been an MT, but I have been doing this for over 35 years and weekends just generally come with the territory if you do acute care. People still get sick on weekends and holidays, and most people are expected to do their share to help out. Is it okay to want a job only working M-F? Of course. But in this profession it is difficult to find and expect to be job hunting for awhile, not to mention clinic work usually pays less. I personally prefer weekends as it is less stressful, people not wanting something every 5 minutes, but that is just my experience.

Good luck to you.
Feel free to ask questions - (sm)

but then don't request it be e-mailed in private so you can hoard the information for yourself.

Enough said!

It sounds to me like you are overreacting. It seems that there are folks who--when they do not get the answer they want, accuse everyone of being "mean" or "sarcastic." Truly, it sounds like junior high school all over again. There really is wisdom in what many people are telling you. Please remember, the seasoned MTs who are answering your questions are only the messengers. Please don't kill them with your attitude. Good luck to you. I truly do hope you can find what you are looking for.
No excuses - Fairminded

If people can't answer the OP with kindness, or helpful information, just *don't* reply. There is not really an excuse for posting merely to be snarky and/or mean.

I have found that in MT, as in the rest of life, a sense of humor and irony is helpful. Some people on this board just seem to have no sense of irony. :)
It's not 'pitty,' it's the sad reality of the times. - Sorry to burst the bubble. sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Good luck to you nonetheless. Please come back and let us know if you find a M-F job so the rest of us can apply too. Many of us would like the same thing but feel those days are long gone. Clinics are usually first to go to VR since they're easy so even if you find one, it's likely you won't have it long and won't replace it quickly. The smart MTs will not give up a clinic or M-F account until it's pried from their cold dead hands.

Sorry for the smart butts on this board Kat!!! - MTMcDonald12

[ In Reply To ..]
It's unfortunate that some people are so darn nasty on here! If you notice, the MTs with the smart comments are the ones who get some kind of satisfaction by telling us all how many years they have and usually they say "20 years, 30 years, 35 years" etc...heck, I'm wondering why they don't type 100 years experience. haaaa
There are companies out there who do Monday-Friday and good luck to you. I wish I knew of one personally. To all you "experienced" MTs, go jump in the lake. No one is impressed with your so-called experience that can't be verified because this is a VIRTUAL website! Good gravy folks! P.S. "I have 125 years MT experience, I am 100% correct on all reports and I'm the best in the world" HAHAAAAAAAAAA

If you are in a villa in Italy, in a serious relationship with George... YOU DONT NEED A BUCK A LINE! Get in your Ferrari and go live a litte! You have to keep George happy or I WILL!!! he he

I don't care if I have to work 7 weekend days a week, I just want to earn a living. This is what MTing has come down to. Good luck with a cushy 8-5/M-F job.

Hi Kat: I emailed you with a company that hires for weekdays only, no evenings, no weekends, no holidays. Good luck! Oncology only.

Kat - local clinics - LinK

Are there any local doctor's offices that might be hiring transcriptionists? There aren't too many around any more, but I work for a local cardiology office. I work M-F, no holidays and no weekends. They are out there, you just have to look hard.

Thanks for the help, I found what I was looking for - KAT

[ In Reply To ..]
Thanks to those of you who tried to be of help. I was able to find one of the specific places that I just couldnt remember. To the rest of you who replied your scarastic remarks, well...it gave you a chance to do what you enjoy doing.
Are you going to share where you found - a M-F position, Kat. -- sm
[ In Reply To ..]
Maybe you could let us know where you found one and what company is hiring for this. I have been looking for one and have not been able to find one, not one that is straight transcription. I have done speech editing and do not care for it, could not make money. I can do acute care work but want clinic due to the mostly M-F schedule, maybe working weekends at times if work is busy. I would appreciate any leads if you do not mind sharing.

Tired Of 7 Days A Week And STILL Broke
Oct 20, 2012

I am SO tired of 7 days a week at the computer, scrapping for work.  Actual rate of pay figures out to about $10.50 per hour.  I used to be able to do 200 lph no sweat.  All these crazy platforms and HUGE increase in nasty E4L (Enlish as as 4TH language ) dictators.  I want a 5-day a week, 8-hour a day job.  I want my LIFE back.  I never used to have to work 80-hour weeks to make $40,000-plus a year.. now barely make $25,000 a year, and I am NOT a slacker.  I ...

MT Week - Remember The Good Ol' Days?
May 25, 2013

I remember looking forward to MT Week with my old favorite employers YOG and Encompass.  I'd go to the mailbox and actually get little gifts from them. Imagine that! With YOG I actually got more than one!  I still have that letter opener that is the bomb! No sarcasm. I really liked that. Little things mean a lot. Much better than a lecture from the rich powers that be, or an "opportunity" to maybe, just maybe, win a prize after gushing about how great your job has b ...

Miss The Good Old Days Of Medical Transcription
Mar 27, 2014

I miss the lively atmosphere of a transcription room filled with other transcriptionists, with doctors strolling in and out, joking, grabbing from the tray of homemade goodies someone had brought in to share.  I miss the laughing and sharing of stories or the mutual griping about the doctors' dictations.  I miss the holiday pot luck dinners and decorations and bonuses.  I miss the formal dictating style that doctors used to go by.  I miss having a job that was in demand ...

Medical Transcription Week
May 21, 2011

I really used to look forward to and loved planning and participating in MT Week.  After all, it is my CHOSEN career and I really love what I do.  However, these past four or five years, being employed by a MTSO, and especially this past week, MT week, I have never felt so unappreciated in my entire career life.  I have literally works my b@lls off this week (Yes, I am female), putting in extra time, helping set up a new account, providing 100% QA where no QA protocol is in place at all for t ...

Transcription Date/pay Week

Please don't make fun of me for this one.  I am truly confused.  Wouldn't a report that you transcribed during the pay week necessarily have been transcribed on one of the days of the pay week?  I just don't get this.  I am a little mathematically challenged and would appreciate someone making this clear for me. ...

HAPPY MT WEEK - Have A Great Week
May 17, 2010

To all you wonderful MTs working and slaving your lives away, Happy MT Week.  I appreciate you.  I appreciate your kindness when I have a rant or a rave, when I'm at my wits end with the constant changing around of clients, client profiles and the never ending dings being thrown at me. I appreciate knowing that I am not alone in this struggle. It is because of all of you, and only you MTs on this board that I manage to stay in this game.  We are treated as less than second class citiz ...

Good grief. I did not change the way I edit. It so depends on how many commas they think you should have. Yes, I made an unusual (for me) mistake last week, but the rest of passing an audit is dumb luck of whether you get a realistic auditor or Ms English wannabe. Everybody must be under pressure because of the cesspool as I see a lot of mistakes when I look up past reports to help with these mush mouths and accents. The time czar wants schedule changes, but I see no problems with turna ...

Feb 15, 2011

It seems that every dictator tonight has made some sort of mistake or said something that doesn't seem right (mg/mcg, right/left, dates, names, age, etc.) that required extra research through past reports (if your lucky they have some) to get correct information?  Or where the residents make you want to beat your head against the wall because they cannot pronounce half the stuff their field exposes them to?  Sure, a handful a day is expected, but there are some days where it' ...

Low Pay For MTs These Days
Apr 21, 2011

I am in quite a quandy right now.  I have been out of work as an MT now for 3 months due to a layoff.  I started off in this field 15 years ago earning 11 cents a line for a transcription company.  My last job paid me 9 cents a line.  Now I am looking to find a part-time job and I can't find anything over 8 cents a line.  Doesn't experience matter anymore or is the transcription field pay rate getting lower and lower all the time?  I am shocked, because fo ...
