Set number of reports - MT looking for work

Posted: Jul 29, 2010

Something new I have noticed about several different companies is how they give you a set limit of reports when first starting out...Anyway, we are paid based on production.  How is someone supposed to live on say 10 reports a day for 2 weeks?  To me, I find that to be very insulting, and needing to pay my bills, it's just not something I could do.  It would be similar to someone who is being paid by the hour being limited to 3 hours a day in their first 2 weeks of their new job.  Say that person made 11 dollars an hour, it would be a big 33 dollars a day.  How can anyone be expected to live on that?  Does anyone else agree?  What has happened to the wonderful world of transcription?

I work for Execuscribe who does exactly that. If you're good, QA should only take you a week. I actually think it make sense to do that. You don't want to go barreling in and do a bunch of reports and then get feed back 15 reports later when you've done something consistently wrong. You just have to go back and retrain yourself and it makes it harder.

I was about as broke as I have ever been when I started here, and I didn't let the 10 reports a day phase me. That really only lasted three or four days. The rest of the three days I was on QA I was allowed to do as many as I could but they all went through the trainer to make sure that I was getting the sort of clunky demographic issues straight.

It's not a big deal and it's for a very short period of time all in all.

do that for an extended period of time such as 2 weeks, well that would be your whole paycheck being basically cut in half...With a family to support and bills to be paid, for some of us, it's just not possible.

Don't forget that when you first come aboard, all your work gets checked by the QA Dept via voice, word by word. No matter how good your work is, it puts the QA Dept into overload, not to mention the reports get out of contract really fast. Some companies only take a certain amount of "newbies" at one time, but let them do as much as they can when they do come aboard. Downside for the MT there is that they have to wait to come aboard to begin with, which is zero money.

It is not worth giving up unemployment for. So, what if you are not good enough? Then you have to start unemployment all over again.
