Phoenix MedCom - Does anyone out there work for Phoenix MedCom? - Frustrated
Posted: Mar 23, 2011
Does anyone out there work for Phoenix MedCom? Passed their test but am hesitant to go forward when the pay is substandard and I've already been warned that the account is difficult. However, I've been out of work since October and something is better than nothing :(

I worked for them briefly. Very briefly.
Nice people, relatively simple account, easy platform (ChartScript - you can type in word and copy & paste), and I found the people really friendly and flexible. (Yes I expect many to disagree with this but I'm telling the poster MY experience, not whatever YOUR experience may have been).
The only problem is the account ran out of work a lot. In all fairness, they did bend over backwards to get me a backup account but it was transcribing letter, etc., that I frankly had no interest in so I passed on their offer.
Many refer to being "penalized" for not fulfilling their line commitment. I can see where this could be a problem if there were a lack of work; HOWEVER, the PM contract clearly breaks down what they pay per line based on output. I looked on it with an attitude of "the more you produce, the more you make," rather than I was being penalized because of any failure to make my line commitment. Their contract is very up front and in fact they will ask that you read it BEFORE offering you a position to make sure you understand how their system works.
All in all, not a bad experience at all, just not enough work; otherwise I'd still be there.
Again this was MY experience with PM; others MMV and that's fine, but I can only speak for myself.

Well, I passed their test, which was very easy. They offered me a spot but told me upfront that the account was very technical and detail-oriented so they only wanted me to do 400 lines per day and only pay 7 cents per line, claiming that that would most likely be all I could handle in the beginning (even though I've been doing this for 10 years now!). My feeling is that maybe they hire a lot of people giving them the same line and that way they don't have to pay the standard 8 cents per line. I certainly don't want to kill myself with a difficult account for only 7 cents per line. However, I've been out of work since October, so I'm thinking maybe I should take it for now until something better comes along. Tired of sending resumes and taking tests and never hearing back from companies :(

I would say this is not the place for you if you have limited time to work, but need a decent paycheck ...which is why I only do this part time as supplemental income.
Pros: They pay on time twice a month and the company is pretty flexible overall. Also, if you can get past QA's lack of "people skills", most of the staff is easy to work with. (guess that should fall under cons huh!)
Cons: 50% of accounts are "high maintenance" resulting in lot of time spent on navigating demographics and endless manuals/email updates and work-arounds. The work is sporadic.

I have worked for Phoenix now for over five years and cannot say enough about them, including their QA staff. They definitely do not lack people skills but just the opposite. They are very helpful and very informative when it comes to their feedback. At least they are honest about what type of account you will be working on before you start and one reason for them putting you on a lower line count is so that you are not overwhelmed by learning the platform as well as trying to get your lines typed. I started out a lower line rate and within a week I was able to go to max. Always offering me more work if needed and willing to work with all their ICs.

Anyone Work For Phoenix MedCom Nov 20, 2012I saw this company in a job posting and want to try a more flex schedule. I work part time right now but have to work weekends and am getting tired of it.
