Mercedes pay cut - would someone check my math? - sm

Posted: Sep 10, 2014

On reading the posts below, if an MT makes 8 cpl and pay is cut down to 6.5 cpl, that is an approximately 20% pay cut.

Then, going from a 65-character line with spaces to VBC (a 65-character line without spaces), that is an approximately 30% pay cut.

So, 20% plus 30% equals an overall 50% pay cut.  Can that possibly be correct?

Sadly, your math is good (nm) - anon

if you only typed what they paid for? Thepatientisa30-year-oldwhitemalewhopresentswithcomplaintsofarmpain. For anyone to think that blanks are unworthy of pay has never tried to read a report without them. Ridiculous. Why people put up with this crap is beyond me. The day my MTSO says they won't pay for spaces is the day I walk.

Here's what I wonder - sm

Why wouldn't a company with the name of Mercedes do the most luxurious thing of all by paying MTs fairly, even generously, changing the current business model of getting the quickest profit and running over your employees with a truck? Sure, management wouldn't get as rich, but maybe they'd sleep well at night, spread goodwill, have no turnover, foster a healthy team spirit and a willingness of employees to go the extra mile, and end the pathetic "us against them" attitude. Maybe, just maybe, management could be proud that employees could live like responsible citizens, pay their bills, and maybe even spread a little of the wealth around.

Come on, Mercedes...step up to the plate! Isn't it time for someone to break the mold, do something positive for the American economy, and ensure loyalty of your staff? Don't you want to be the gold standard?

Better yet, it's time for - us to take a stand

[ In Reply To ..]
and just refuse to take it anymore!! Things just keep getting worse and worse for the MT's - you know, the one's who actually MAKE their money - somethings gotta give!!!

Greed IS the gold standard, unfortunately - Winston

How many people have built companies, only to sell them out to the highest bidder? Very few MTSOs care about anything but the profit margin. It's the way we do business in America now. No insurance, no retirement, not even a living wage! It's "Walmart" economics. What did we think would happen?

People have been trying to figure out how to get rich off healthcare since the early 1980's - shadow

I remember well the invasion of the MBA's at the hospital I worked at. People seen the dollar amounts involved (and the impressive edifices) and assume there's money lying around to be diverted -- when actually the "profit margin" (or revenues over expenses) are remarkably thin in most area (and so much of healthcare is not revenues generating)

"Reinventing" transcription seems to be a cyclic thing where people figure there must be big bucks to be made, if only, they could __(name that tune)__.

I was hopeful that the ACA would increase doctor's visits/hospital admissions providing "sheer numbers" to offset some of the check box/VR technologies. There has been so much catastrophizing in the last 15-20 years, I think I've become numb.

So many people know someone who "made out like bandits" when medical billing as a stand-alone was created ... high hopes indeed.

department at an extremely high-quality, mid-sized medical center to the HMO that eventually took them over and ruined them. How "excited" he was at the prospect of managed care. (He was "excited" about all the money he was likely going to get from the HMO for soliciting and facilitating this buy-out.) The medical is still there, a bloated and unmanageable 4 times its original size from when I first started working there. The highly-skilled, long-time PCPs and specialists for the most part left for something better, or retired early, because what used to be quality medical care there got turned into run-em-in and run-em-out McMedicine by the suits. And boy, did that HMO ever bring in the suits. The place became so top-heavy with management, it seemed like for every doctor or nurse working there, there were 3 management types. Top management, middle management, lower management, management coordinators, and yada yada yada. Pay and benefits got whittled away, occasionally nurses and other ancillary personnel went on strike, and over time many vital jobs and departments were outsourced or eliminated entirely. Meanwhile, the suits kept getting higher and higher pay, more perks, and kept multiplying like gerbils.

They outsourced everything they could get their greedy little HMO management hands on: The landscapers, janitorial staff, transcription and coding departments. Medical records is a mere skeleton crew. Turnover there among nurses, medical assistants, techs and receptionists goes higher every year. Now the billing department is apparently mostly outsourced, too - from the looks of all the bad press this medical center is now getting, and they now have no rating at all with the BBB. Managed care has essentially destroyed American healthcare. All that's left is just another scam operation disguised as medicine.

Sadly, for a company to call themselves Mercedes - and equate themselves with a

to avoid conflicts-of-interest in dealing with contractors/vendors -- those "free" vacations in Hawaii masquerading as "conferences" may be fondly remembered for the fun, but the revelations about improper sales/marketing campaigns was not.

This is probably why being a "boutique" provider to smaller (private) clients seems like a fertile market for an "elite" product. This "catering to a distinguished clientele" model was predicted back in Megatrends -- the problem is always that the well-heeled are just as "cheap" as the rest of us ... they want it all. My local Chamber of Commerce has been learning this lesson for the last decade after deciding they wanted to attract the more affluent -- who have so many more options than the rest of us that wooing them often has little net effect. (Think casinos and the extraordinary perks offered to -- but more importantly -- expected by "high rollers")

Actually, I know someone who just got a Mercedes - SUV, and its a total LEMON.

Let's say you have 1,000 MTs.  If N manages to keep $100 per week per employee due to penalties, that is $100,000 each week that Nuance gets to keep....for nothing.  Multiply that by 52, and they get $5,200,000 to keep per year just on platform, QA, QC, LPH.  And how many MTs are there?  And how much more than $100 are we losing?  But heaven forbid they have to increase you by a few dollars to get you up to minimum pay.  Check where your total lines are comin ...

Anyone Out There Really Good At Math?

I've tried to do the math to figure exactly how much of an "increase" this is.  I'm sure it's chicken feed, but since I keep getting a different answer when I try, I'll never know. I subtracted my old rate from my new rate and got 0.0013.  Is this 1/13th of a cent my raise per line?  Lordy that cannot be right!   I kept doing it over and got different answers, and I don't know how, but math isn't my forte.  What does 0.0013 mean?  Is i ...

Has Anybody Done The Math For The Incentive And
Oct 17, 2010

I'm unsure if my math is correct, but this is what I got.  I average about 300 lines an hour for my 8-hour shift.  In order to reach the cap over the 4 days, I would need to type 16,666 lines above my normal line count.   That would be 4167 lines extra a day.  In my case, at 300 lph, that would be almost 14 more hours I would have to work daily on top of my normal 8.  I suppose 1 hour to sleep and 1 hour for eating and potty breaks a day is all I need, right?& ...

My March report said I averaged 99.3% and need to improve quality, proofread, ADT screen, dates, labs and so on. Problem is, one missed comma gave me the 99.3% score.
